To study and immediately wanted to update it to Windows 8.1. Now I will tell you how to do this and what problems may arise.

Now I will tell my story. For testing, I immediately downloaded windows 8 enterprise, but what I didn’t do, it didn’t appear in the store new version... As I understand it, in order to update the corporate Windows, you need to pay money ...

Enraged, tk. I spent 2 hours, decided to install the professional version.

Here's what I did to update Windows 8 to windows 8.1:

1. Download and install update KB 2871839. You can download it by selecting the required version.

2. After installing and restarting the computer, it is best to go to internet explorer and write in the address: ms-windows-store: WindowsUpgrade

A store will open where you can download it. See below.

What to do if Windows 8 does not appear in the store?

You may encounter that.

If the store still does not have Windows 8.1, then you may have an outdated cache, you can clear it by entering the WSReset.exe command in the Run command (Win + R) or by typing in the search in the right pop-up panel.

And also try to disable antiviruses, Firewalls and all the programs are not needed for a while.

How to upgrade from windows 8 to windows 8.1?

And here is how it is done according to the standard:

We go to the start (if you did not follow the link ms-windows-store: WindowsUpgrade) and select the store.

A sign will appear with information about downloading Windows 8.1. Click download.

Download and installation will go.

Then he will ask for a reboot. We reboot.

After launch, we agree to the license.

We select the standard parameters. If you need to change it, click configure

If you do not have a microsoft account, then click to use an existing account.

After the steps taken, the start of Windows 8.1 will appear

With these simple steps, you can upgrade from windows 8 to windows 8.1.

Microsoft, although we were slightly silent, but you probably already know, released Windows 8.1 Preview for public testing, now it is available as free update for all Windows 8 users.

If you have already upgraded your machine to Windows 8.1 or are planning to migrate to in the near future, then you can check out the list 50 important features presented in the latest release 8.1.

Start: Microsoft has heeded numerous complaints and reinstated the Start button in Windows 8 to help you quickly switch to the Start screen. It is enough to right-click on the Start button to see the Power User Menu (Windows + X menu), which hides shutdown, restart and some other actions.

Set your desktop background as your startup screen: 8.1 is equipped with the ability to automatic installation the desktop background as the start screen background. When you change the desktop background, Windows will automatically copy this image to the start screen.

Using a bow screen as a frame for an image: lock screen can now be applied as a frame to display your own archive of photos from local disk as well as via SkyDrive.

In addition to the aforementioned features, there are a number of other features designed specifically for business purposes. Please comment on the most important Windows 8.1 innovation below.

This set of tools is designed to remove NOT RECOMMENDED updates (spyware and to upgrade to the top ten) and replace them with DIPPERS in Windows 7 and Windows 8. Dummy plugs are a kind of trick for the Update Center. Unlike normal updates, they do not include their main content and only contain service files (cat and mum) and the necessary registry keys. After installing the stubs, the system will detect non-recommended updates as installed and will no longer offer them through the Update Center. However, you will be able to see the stubs there and delete them in exactly the same ways as regular updates, but unlike them, the installation date will not be displayed for stubs (or the date will be indicated as 01.01.1601). In this regard, it is important to emphasize that the installation of stubs will be absolutely useless if the real not recommended updates have not been previously removed from the system.

To perform this task, two files from the set are intended - the "Delete.cmd" batch file and the "~ Delete.txt" text file, which is required for this batch file to work. This file contains a list of updates (numbers only) that must be removed. You can open it, for example with a standard notepad, and make any changes to this list. To remove non-recommended updates, you just need to run the batch file and wait for it to complete. At the end of the batch file, a pause will be made so that you can see the result, if you press any key after the pause, the system will reboot automatically. In case you just closed the command window, then you must reboot the system yourself (SYSTEM REBOOT is important condition to properly uninstall updates and install stubs).

Installing plugs

The "Install.cmd" batch file is intended for this task, which uses a special folder structure. The correct names of these folders - the names of the updates for which the stubs will be installed - are very important for the normal operation of this batch file. In the folders themselves, special files are stored that correspond to these updates and serve as the basis for the formation of stubs. Not all updates that were removed in the first step have stubs installed. For non-recommended updates that have been superseded by newer updates, no stubs are installed. This is not necessary, since they will still not be offered through the update center if stubs are installed for the latest not recommended updates. To install these stubs, you need to run the batch file and wait until it completes. After that it is also recommended to reboot the system.

Updating and Modifying the Stub List

The "Update.cmd" batch file is intended to accomplish this task, which uses the same special folder structure as in the second paragraph. Since new updates (including those not recommended) are released monthly, the update lists for this set of tools will also need to be updated periodically. Any user can do this, as it is quite easy. To do this, the folders with the names of not recommended updates that have been replaced with newer ones must be deleted, and the folders with the names of these new updates must be added. And also list the names of these updates in the "~ Delete.txt" file. Then run the "Update.cmd" file, which will copy from the system the files necessary for the formation of stubs into the corresponding folders. After everything is ready, you will only have to complete the first and second points again.

Important note

Thus, to properly update and modify this set, you need to adhere to three simple rules.

  1. Numerical designations of all not recommended updates (both the latest and all replaced) that need to be deleted should be written to the file "~ Delete.txt"
  2. The names (KB ******) and the number of folders should correspond to the names and the number of those updates that should be replaced with stubs. You do not need to include the names of updates that have been replaced with newer ones.
  3. In order for "Update.cmd" to be able to copy from the system required files for new non-recommended updates, these updates must be installed on the system first. Since these updates will then be removed anyway, all of this can be done on your production system as well. Or you can use a similar system that is installed in a virtual machine for this.

In some cases, it may also be necessary to modify the preset as described above.

  • If you want to add or remove any additional updates.
  • If you want to use this set for version Windows systems Embedded.
  • If the system interface language is not Russian or English, or if another additional language pack is installed.

Step-by-step instructions for installing plugs

  1. Run Delete.cmd and wait for it to delete them.
  2. Reboot.
  3. Run Delete.cmd again to make sure everything is deleted.
  4. Run Install.cmd
  5. Reboot
  6. Searching for updates again

Step-by-step instructions for updating the kit yourself

  1. Add a folder with the name of the update (KB ******) to the "x86" or "x64" subfolders (depending on the bitness of your system).
  2. If a new update replaces some update from the set, then delete the folder with the name of this update.
  3. Add the name of the replaced update to the ~ Delete.txt file (only numerical designation)
  4. Install a new update, for which a stub is being made, into the system.
  5. Run Update.cmd and check that the necessary files have been added to the new folder.
  6. Now you can execute step by step instructions on the installation of plugs.
  • If you just need to replace the stub to update with old version on a new one, it is enough to fulfill only the last three points.

Integration of stubs into a WIM image

This toolkit can also be used to integrate stubs into a WIM image. The integration algorithm is as follows:

  1. Mount the required index from the WIM image to a folder (for example, to the E: \ Mount folder).

    dism / mount-image /imagefile:E:\Path\MyImage.wim / index: 1 / MountDir: E: \ Mount

  2. Call the "Install.cmd" batch file specifying the folder where the image is mounted as an argument (key).

    call "E: \ Stubs \ Install.cmd" "E: \ Mount"

  3. Disable image

    dism / unmount-wim / mountdir: E: \ Mount / commit

From the outset, Microsoft took unprecedented steps to bring Windows 10 to as many computers as possible. She made the new operating system completely free for users of legal copies of Windows 7 and 8.1. And even left a loophole for the owners of pirated versions: thanks to participation in Windows program Insider they can take all the benefits of a fresh system. But the main argument for the upgrade is that Microsoft really did almost everything this time around. Yes, you can find flaws and errors in any product, but in general Windows 10 looks like a fast enough, beautiful and convenient operating system.

Nevertheless, some users are in no hurry to switch to Windows 10. Some people are not allowed to do this by conservative thinking, while others have quite justified and serious reasons. For example, the incompatibility of the software used or the lack of support for some rare hardware component. These users will find it helpful to know the complete list of updates that need to be blocked in order to thwart Microsoft's attempts to upgrade your system. Here it is.

If you finally decided not to upgrade to a new version of the operating system, then you can remove these patches and hide them in Windows Update. If you do not do this, then the files for updating Windows 7 or 8.1 to Windows 10 will sooner or later be downloaded to your computer and Microsoft will continue to pester you with its upgrade reminders.

Are you using Windows 10? And how are your impressions?
