The Swedish company Ericsson has built an LTE network for the regional operator Motiv. The company plans to launch this network into commercial operation in the fall.
The construction of the 4G network was announced yesterday by the press service of Ericsson. Motiv has prepared for launch the fragments of the fourth generation network in the Sverdlovsk and Kurgan regions, Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous districts.
"In the near future we plan to start providing services in the 4G network in Yekaterinburg and satellite cities, as well as in Nizhny Tagil, Kurgan, Surgut and Salekhard. By the end of autumn, we will provide several more settlements with high-speed Internet in all regions of our presence. We will to provide not selective, but the fullest possible coverage of the LTE network in each locality, "Motiv spokeswoman Alena Yarushina said in a conversation with a ComNews reporter. She did not disclose the amount of investment in the construction of an LTE network.
In turn, the press service of Ericsson refrained from specifying how many base stations the company has built.
According to Alena Yarushina, the number of potential 4G users directly depends on the number of subscriber devices that support this technology. Unfortunately on this moment there are not many such devices, and their cost is quite high, she added. "Therefore, for now, we rely exclusively on the most advanced users, the so-called innovators. With the advent of low-cost equipment on the market, the number of high-speed Internet users will increase significantly," said Alena Yarushina.
"Motiv" can count on attracting several tens of thousands of LTE users - no more than 3% of subscribers from the existing base of its GSM subscribers (2.4 million) within the first year after the launch of the commercial 4G network, the head of the department believes. wireless technologies J`son & Partners Consulting Vitaly Solonin.
"In the longer term, the growth of the 4G subscriber base is possible due to the expansion and reduction of the cost of LTE subscriber devices, primarily smartphones. At the same time, competition with federal operators will increase," Vitaly Solonin said in an interview with ComNews.
VimpelCom is still preparing for the full launch of LTE networks in these regions (in the Sverdlovsk, Kurgan regions, Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous districts). "In Yekaterinburg, for example, the network is in test operation. In the Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrugs, we plan to start providing 4G services this winter," a VimpelCom representative said in an interview with ComNews.
MegaFon has already launched a fourth-generation network in 28 settlements of the Sverdlovsk Region. "LTE from MegaFon is also available in Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug," Olesya Yaremenko, press secretary of the company, added to a ComNews reporter.
"LTE networks of OJSC" Mobile TeleSystems "in Uralsk federal district operate in the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk and Tyumen regions. In the fall, we will launch networks in the Perm Territory and in the Kurgan Region, in the IV quarter - in the Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Districts, '' Dmitry Solodovnikov, head of MTS media relations, explained to a ComNews reporter. “Moreover, when launched, MTS provides the fullest possible coverage in the region, covering all central and densely populated areas and large cities of the region.”
Ericsson also carried out work on the modernization of the existing GSM network at Motiv. "Modernization works existing network GSM and optimization of the use of the frequency spectrum are already underway, - said Alena Yarushina. - The main difficulty that we faced during the construction of LTE networks is the lack of transport resources in small settlements: for high-quality operation of a new generation network, it is necessary to strengthen our own network of fiber-optic links. This is a rather lengthy process. However, by the end of 2015, we plan to build an LTE network in the main settlements where about 80% of the population of the Sverdlovsk and Kurgan regions, Yamalo-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous districts live. "
In addition, within the framework of the agreement between Ericsson and Motiv, the Swedish company offered the operator a solution to optimize the use of the frequency spectrum in the 1800 MHz band. Ericsson Spectrum Optimization Solution Launches Services mobile transmission data of the LTE network, using the frequency resource available to the operator. High quality services and throughput are provided through the use of base stations of the RBS 6000 family, which allow working simultaneously on LTE and GSM technologies, "Ericsson said in a statement.
According to the first deputy general director of the Motiv telecommunications group Mikhail Kamenskov, this technological solution will allow satisfying the growing needs of subscribers for high-speed mobile Internet without losing the quality of voice services.
"The quality of the network is of key importance in the transition to services cellular new generation, requiring the transmission of large volumes of traffic. Our solution will enable Motiv to provide its subscribers with advanced broadband services. mobile access to the Internet ", - in turn, noted the vice-president of Ericsson for business development with telecom operators in Russia and the CIS countries Zoran Lukovich.
According to Vitaly Solonin, thanks to its long presence on the market (since 1996), due to low and understandable tariffs, Motiv manages to maintain a leading position (about 50% of the market in terms of the number of active subscribers) in terms of the subscriber base in the Sverdlovsk region (in this more than 95% of the operator's subscriber base is concentrated in the region). The development of LTE networks is a logical step towards retaining the operator's subscriber base in the region in the face of increased competition in the mobile broadband Internet access (BBA) segment in the medium and long term, said Vitaly Solonin.
“In other regions, Motiv has been operating not so long ago, for about two years, and has not yet managed to occupy a noticeable market share. It is unlikely that the launch of LTE networks in these regions will significantly affect the balance of power, at least in the short term. competition will intensify, "Vitaly Solonin summed up in an interview with ComNews.
Today, the speed of data transmission in the cellular network is one of the main factors of competition, said Evgeny Evdokimenko, head of research at ComNews Research. According to him, the use of LTE technologies will allow Motiv to provide significantly higher data transfer rates compared to GPRS and EDGE technologies used in 2G networks. "So, in the LTE network in the channel to the subscriber with a width of 5 MHz, it is theoretically possible to achieve a speed of 36 Mbit / s. This is almost two orders of magnitude higher than the maximum theoretical speed via the EDGE protocol in the 2G network," Evgeny Evdokimenko said.
The 1800 MHz band is the most effective for LTE networks, in turn, added the President of the Association of Regional Telecommunications Operators (AROS) Yuri Dombrovsky. According to him, for a long time in our country, it was allowed only for GSM networks, and only last year's December decision of the State Commission on Radio Frequencies allowed the use of this technology.
Yuri Dombrovsky is heartily happy about the next success of "Motiv". It is extremely important that the coverage of the new LTE network in all constituent entities of the Federation will be no worse than that of the existing GSM networks, he stressed.
"A very modern and technological solution. The Big Three operators have a multiple gap in these coverage. Please note that this is the third launch of the LTE network. regional operators Russia (we are talking about such companies as SMARTS and Vainakh Telecom - Approx. ComNews), which testifies to their flexibility, quick response, financial well-being, "Yuri Dombrovsky concluded in an interview with ComNews.
The age-old theme: which operator is better? Where is the Internet better? Each user mobile communications already have my own experience and opinion on this issue. But with the emergence of new operators and the reciprocal activation of the marketing efforts of the "old" operators, the topic of "who is better" once again becomes relevant.
Today in Nizhnevartovsk Mobile Internet all five operators have 4G (LTE) speeds. It's time to compare.
The task of this test is to see how 4G behaves at the most extreme points of the city. If you are wondering what happened, go ahead under cat.
First, about the measurement technique.
All measurements were taken on a smartphone Samsung Galaxy S5.
Speedtest program, from the same Perm INNOR server.
I took two measurements, wrote down the results. The best results from two attempts were taken into account.
All screenshots of measurements are hidden under the spoilers, when you click on the preview, the full size opens. Some screenshots have not survived, so in some cases one screen at a time.
During the measurements, the smartphone was at the same level and the same orientation.
The best results on the points are highlighted in bold.
Where 4G did not catch, measurements were made in 3G (marked next to it).
I chose 10 points for the test. 7 practically along the perimeter of the residential area of Nizhnevartovsk, one (No. 9) at the Nizhnevartovsk GPP and a couple in the city center.

At this point Tele2 showed an absolute test record in terms of reception speed. I will assume that the reason is in the tower, located next to the point in line of sight.
Perhaps for the same reason, MTS has a high result, the operator showed himself better only at the GPP (point 9).
For Megaphone, this point turned out to be the lowest speed.
Motive at low reception speed set a personal transmission record.

I will not conduct a detailed analysis and draw capital conclusions.
First, there are not enough statistics.
Secondly, my technical knowledge about cellular communications and information about what is going on in the bins of specific operators is not enough. Indeed, many factors influence the speed at any given moment at each specific point.
Therefore, I would be glad to receive comments from technically advanced users and operator representatives.
But nevertheless, I also noticed some patterns. Just remember that everything that has been said relates to specific points of this test. In the city, everything is possible differently.
Tele2.
The best results in terms of speed. Perhaps this is due to the low load of the new operator's network.
It is important that Tele2 does not have 3G in Nizhnevartovsk. Therefore, in order to take advantage of the operator's lucrative offers, you need to get a device with LTE support.
Tele2 gets a big minus in karma for the complete absence of mobile Internet at the GPP.
An incomprehensible loss also occurred in new buildings. When MTS and Beeline switched to 3G, Tele2 got lost after one measurement.
MTS
Ultimate Ping Test Champion. On the ALL points are the best indicator.
The speed at the selected points is definitely better than Megaphone and Motive. In six comparisons, it was faster than Beeline.
Beeline
On the conditional third place in terms of speed. Consistently good. It is noteworthy that sometimes 3G Beeline is faster than 4G competitors. 2 times showed the best speed on 3G.
At the 4th point (North), it produced 35Mbps, close to the record.
Megaphone
In response, along with the Motive, it loses a lot to the three previous ones. Ping numbers are in the region of 130-170 (ms). A fat minus for those who like to play online games.
In terms of speed in 4th place.
Motive
The motive was the worst in this test by far.
The largest pings in the test.
Slowest speed.
But there are also pluses.
Motive only who's on ALL points was 4G.
It is also worth adding a relatively good transfer rate as a plus.
Those who want to use Motiv's mobile Internet should remember that, like in the case of Tele2, the operator does not have 3G. Accordingly, your mobile gadget must work with LTE.
Well, for lovers of the average temperature in the hospital, the arithmetic of the test is in one pivot table. Fit from klimets for which a big human and blogging thanks to him))
That's all.
I would be glad to have comments, suggestions, remarks.
I am planning to make a test of mobile Internet in closed buildings of the city. There, judging by personal experience, the results will definitely be unpredictable and very interesting.
Thanks to the city information portal NV86 for help with the test.

** - the allocated channel width (7.5 MHz) does not correspond to the standard. You can use 5 MHz of them, for example, or you can negotiate with the "neighboring" operator and, by combining the two bands, get a completely standard channel width of 15 MHz. And then use it using the RAN Sharing technology.
