How to update galaxy s3 mini, from android 5.0 lollipop

Samsung has officially stopped upgrading the international variant, meaning you cannot get the official Android update KitKat. Naturally, when such a thing happens, the online community makes up for the gap. And this is very good news, because Samsung, despite the abundance of complaints and online petitions, does not seem to want to upgrade its Galaxy S3 to KitKat (although everyone knows you can; Android 4.4.4 is designed to run on a 1GHz processor and 512 MB of RAM).

ParanoidAndroid is a ROM created by a dedicated team of developers, and the latest (final) version has just arrived for the international Galaxy S3, that is, the model designated I9300. Of course, being a custom ROM, the process of installing it on your phone requires you to have root access, which could potentially bite the phone if it went wrong and void the warranty too.

Still unsure? Here's an excerpt from Android View on reviewing ROMs: “PA3 + is an AOSP based rum and most of all I love it for its beauty, especially its hybrid flexibility. The ROM performance is fast and responsive, but one thing that still worries me is battery life. Don't expect very decent battery performance from it. Install it, enjoy it and look forward to fixing the battery leak in the future. "

We hate to say such things, but we must emphasize that if you are going to root your phone and install this ROM, then you are doing it at your own risk. We do not take any responsibility if your phone stops working!

Before we start

  1. First of all, it is important to clarify that it is software and procedure for international variant of Galaxy S3, only for I9300. To make sure you have the correct model, go to Settings> About Phone, where you should see the model number. If it's I9300, move forward. In addition, the phone must be disconnected from the network.
  2. Secondly, it is a good idea to back up any important files or data you may have on board your Galaxy S3 before moving on. You can manually connect your phone to your PC and eject what you need, or you can use a custom recovery tool such as ClockworkMod or TWRP - these tools create a complete backup of your phone and you can restore the state you were in if things go wrong or you change your mind. (provided that the phone is not completely bricked, of course).
  3. Make sure your computer has updated USB drivers to connect to your phone.
  4. Make sure the USB debugging mode is enabled on your smartphone. Go to Settings> Developer Options and check the box next to Enable USB Debugging. Note that if you cannot see the developer options, you can open them by pressing the software build number seven times.
  5. Make sure your phone is fully charged.
  6. Make sure you have microSD card in phone.

You should have received root rights to your smartphone!

Receive files

You must download the custom PA ROM:

  • ParanoidAndroid ROM

You must also download compatible google apps, you have a choice of two sets:

  • Google App Files (templated)
  • Google App Files (full)

Now flash it!

With these downloaded files, connect your phone to your computer using USB. Copy the PA firmware and Google Apps archive files to the root folder of your phone's SD card - don't extract the files!

You can now install ROM using recovery methods either through ClockworkMod (CWM) or TWRP Recovery.

If you are using CWM

  2. Select erase the cache partition and confirm.
  3. Go to the main CWM menu. Click Advanced and then Wipe Dalvik cache and confirm.

  5. Once this is done, select "Return" next to "Reboot System Now" from the recovery menu. Wait for the phone to complete the reboot process, which can take up to five minutes.

If you are using TWRP

  1. Turn off your phone and wait 5-10 seconds until it turns off completely.
  2. Boot your phone into recovery mode by holding down the volume up, home, and power button at the same time until the recovery screen appears. You can use the volume keys to navigate the recovery options and the power button to select an action.
