Instructions on how to transfer applications to a memory card

The ability to transfer applications to a memory card appeared in the unforgettable Android 2.2, but it worked very badly. Nevertheless, users at the very least managed to free the device's internal storage. In Android 4.4, this option was removed. Probably, they thought that smartphones already have too much internal memory. This continued until the release of OS version 6. In it, the possibility of transfer appeared again. In a slightly modified form. However, even after that, the ability to transfer applications to an external drive did not appear on all firmwares. Even modern versions of Android on some devices do not always have this useful option... But this already depends on the manufacturer. Now let's talk about the ways in which you can transfer applications to an external drive.

Application porting methods

It is worth noting that to transfer applications to a USB flash drive, you will need a memory card with a fairly high speed data exchange. It is best if the drive complies with Class 10. Otherwise, programs will take a very long time to start. And there will be almost no sense from such a transfer.

There are not so many of them. And the choice of a specific method entirely depends on the firmware, which in this moment installed on the user's smartphone. The whole question is whether it supports such an option or not.

  • Transfer by standard meansAndroid. This option is only good if the device's firmware supports this function a priori. In this case, it is better to use the OS tools, since the system itself knows how and what to do best.
  • Transfer using applications. This option is for those whose firmware, for one reason or another, cannot transfer application data (and the programs themselves) to an external drive. But third party utilities they can handle it well

So, we have two ways to transfer. Now we need to consider them in more detail, since the process itself is rather complicated and requires preliminary preparation. Let's start with the simplest and most obvious: transfer using the OS.

It should be noted that some applications cannot be migrated. Things like alarms, widgets, live wallpapers and all system apps are not portable. And even if they try, they will definitely not work after that. So such a trick should be done only with third party applications.

This is the first and most correct way. The mobile OS itself knows how to correctly transfer application data to a USB flash drive and keep them working. And this is done much easier than using third-party programs.

If the firmware on your smartphone really supports this option, then there will be no problems with the transfer. The system will do everything on its own. The user is required to complete only a few steps.

Nothing else is required from the user.

First, tap on the settings icon on the gadget's desktop, then move to the item "Applications", select the one you want and click on it. There will be a button in the list of options "Move to SD card"... It also needs to be pressed.

The transfer will start automatically. However, upon completion, the system will issue a corresponding warning. By the way, the OS is not able to move open applications. So you have to close the program first.

However, as mentioned above, this way is not suitable for everyone. If your firmware does not support this transfer option, then it is worth considering other methods. And that's exactly what we're going to do now.

It should be noted that after updating the OS version (for example, over the air), all settings may go astray. Including applications that are located on an external drive. So after each update, it is highly advisable to check the location of those programs that you previously transferred. In case of failure, you will have to repeat the procedure.

Using third-party programs

Third-party applications are able to transfer installed programs to an external memory card. However, working with them is quite difficult. In some cases, it is even necessary to prepare a memory card. And we’ll talk about it all now.

It is a small utility that can be easily downloaded from Google Play. It has a very compact size and can work with internal and external drives, even without superuser rights.

However, this particular program is not particularly reliable.... Sometimes she doesn't do her job. But in some cases, even this application is quite capable of helping. And working with the program is very simple.

First you need to download the application from Google play and install it. Then you need to start the program, open the menu (with a simple swipe to the right) and tap on the item Move to memory card.

The program will do the rest by itself

All application data will be moved. Including the program itself. The program does not work with system utilities. It is recommended that you restart your device after the transfer.

If this application did not cope with the task, then it is worth trying another... Something will definitely do. By the way, with this program you can also manage and delete APK files.

The rest of the application will do it automatically. Naturally, after completing all the operations, it is advisable to restart the smartphone. Then all changes will be applied.

Also, this application can clear the cache, freeze programs and delete them without confirmation. But recent actions require root and superuser rights. So you won't be able to use them on a regular phone.

And this is already heavy artillery. This free utility is capable of a lot. But it requires root and superuser rights. But the application works amazingly. It will transfer all programs to an external drive with a 100% guarantee.

However, to work with this utility, the flash drive must be prepared accordingly. A special hidden section should be created on it, which will be used as memory for applications. You can create such a partition using Recovery.

Turn off the smartphone and then turn it on with the volume buttons held down. In different devices, the recovery can be launched different ways... First, find out how it runs on your smartphone. Then we will get to the main menu of the recovery. Here you need to select the item "Advanced".

Then we tap on the item Partition SD Card.

Now you need to select the type file system(it is best to use EXT3), select the size of the partition itself, the swap partition and move the slider to create the corresponding partitions on the drive.

Now all that remains is to wait for the process to complete and then restart the smartphone. And only then can you start transferring data to the drive.

Apps2SD: All in One Tool This is an application that can not only transfer application data to SD card, but also "all in one", which includes many interesting functions. It is one of a kind.

For Apps2SD to work, it is important to know about the need for:

  • on the device must be received and they must be issued by Apps2SD
  • you must have 2 partitions on the sd card (the application provides the ability to create two partitions)
  • should be installed Busybox(in case of absence, you will be prompted to download)
  • should be installed Chainfire supersu when using Android 5 (Lollipop) or higher, if you want to use the ability to mount folders (Folder Mount), as well as link obb and external data to the sd card. But Apps2SD works great with other root management apps as well.

Features of Apps2SD:

  • Link apk, odex, dex, lib, internal data, external data and obb folder of user / system applications to the sd card.
  • terminal emulator
  • mounting and linking folders (Mount folder, Link folder)
  • cleaning traces of broken applications (deleting unused files and fixing download / installation error on Google Play)
  • hiding applications and games (it is possible to create access with a password)
  • create / restore a backup of an application / game / sd-card
  • additional reboot options
  • screen recording (for Android Kitkat users or higher)
  • Task Manager (clearing RAM by stopping running processes)
  • App Manager (enable / disable services / activations / receivers / content providers)
  • swap manager: RAM accelerator (create / manage partitions / swap files)
  • sd card accelerator (increase the speed of internal / external sd card)
  • sd card speed test (test your sd card read / write speed)
  • tool for working with partitions (the ability to create up to 3 partitions on your sd card)
  • app hibernation (hibernate user / system apps when the screen is turned off)
  • script manager (create / run custom linux scripts. Create shortcuts on the home screen for quick access to scripts)
  • cpu frequency switch (switch the cpu frequency to conserve battery life (charge level) when the screen is off)
  • log log (view / save / send logs of your device)
  • fix sd card (fix rights-write to external sd card)
  • removal of system applications (including software containing viruses)
  • transferring applications to the sd card using the standard app2sd method (forced movement if the transfer is not supported by the application)
  • enable and disable applications
  • link, link return, enable, disable, convert, integrate, clear data / cache, transfer to sd card, transfer to device and many other functions
  • auto link just now installed applications(optional)
  • support for 32/64-bit devices

How it works:

Link apps and games (Link2SD)
Apps2SD moves apk, odex, dalvik-cache, lib and internal data files to a second partition on your map, which the OS mounts on boot and creates an ID link in its original location. This allows you to transfer most of the data (while maintaining the entire structure of files and folders), while the system continues to think that the data is still in the device's memory.

Obb link and external data (Obb2SD)
On devices that have an emulated (internal) sd card, the obb and external data files are actually located in internal storage, not on the external (real) sd card. This method allows you to move these files to the first / second section of your external sd card with an optional command binding to mount / remount the file hierarchy.

On some android phones, there is no way to transfer applications, various files, personal data, games to a memory card.

If your device is on this list, then I recommend downloading the program for transferring files to a memory card in android phone.

There are many of them, but best program to transfer applications and everything else to an android memory card like AppMgr III (App 2 SD) for me.

It works great on both older versions of android and the latest: android 6.0 android 7.0.

You can download the program for transferring files to the "AppMgr III" SD card on the play market or right here on this page (download link at the end of the recording).

You can upgrade it to the PRO version, but personally I don't see any reason for that. Instruments free version quite enough.

How to use the program to transfer data to sd card

Immediately after you download and install, the process of scanning the contents of your phone will begin, for programs, files, data ....

Then click on the three stripes in the upper left.

A menu will open. Select move apps.

A section will open, which will show which applications you can move to the memory card.

This is the ability to disable and hide applications you are not using. To do this, go back to the menu, but now select the item: "Hide applications".

The hiding procedure is very simple and there is no point in describing it, but AppMgr III (App 2 SD) can do something else.

This is to clear the cache in one click, uninstall applications even in a batch, sort files, adjust sound, vibration and notification backlighting.

Other programs for transferring applications or games to a SD card

If, for some reason, AppMgr III (App 2 SD) does not suit you, then there are other similar programs.

For example: Linr2SD, Files To SD Card, SD Maid, App2SD Tool, Install Apps On, App2SD & AppM and others. You can download it freely on the play market.

Everything Android programs by default installs on the internal memory of the phone, tablet. Gradually, it fills up, because its volume is not unlimited. As a result, we observe the following picture: memory mobile device packed so that even for a regular screenshot there is no room, but the external drive is completely empty. Transferring applications to an SD card or direct installation to a memory card will help save the gadget from "overfilling". Here are some of the benefits of doing this:

  • the phone will not "freeze", "slow down" when opening a gallery or programs;

  • the gadget will work quickly;

  • there will be no need to regularly clean the cache.

So, let's take a look at the two most popular options for freeing up the internal "space" of a phone or tablet.

Installing directly to an external drive

In this way, you can "outwit" the system so that it will consider a USB flash drive as its own memory. This is convenient, because the volume of external storage is up to several hundred gigabytes. The main feature is safe and automatic installation apps to android SD card without the need to transfer.

Needed file manager... The most popular Android SD card transfer software is Total Commander. Already installed on your phone? Excellent. Not yet? You can download it for free on the 5mod website. The algorithm of actions is as follows:

  • open Total Commander;

  • select the rights "Superuser";

  • go to the "File system root" folder;

  • find the folder "etc", and in it the file vold.fstab;

  • go to "Editing";

  • find the lines dev_mount sdcard / mnt / sdcard and dev_mount extsd / mnt / extsd;

  • swap the last positions after / mnt /;

  • save.

Done! Now you need to restart your gadget. The installation of programs on the card will be performed automatically, and not fill the memory of the device itself.

How to transfer the program correctly

What if you don't want to uninstall and reinstall the software at all? After all, they may contain important information, which is difficult to "transfer" to another device. In such cases, there is a plan "B", namely: transferring the application data to the SD card.

For gadgets with version Android 4.0+, you can use the simplest option. So:

  • go to "Settings";

  • select the "Applications" tab;

  • find the program you need;

  • in the sub-item "Memory" there are two buttons: move to the SD-card or delete data. Choose the first one;

  • wait for the transfer process to complete;

  • reboot your device.

Done! But there is one important caveat - this method is not suitable for all programs. If you can't move it to the card, use the Apps 2 SD, Move app 2 sd utilities. If the software cannot be transferred, and it does not take up much space, you can leave it in the “native” memory of the phone.
