Yesterday we talked about how iPhone and iPad can install outdated versions of applications using the Charlie program. From the comments to that article, it turned out that there is an easier way that does not involve the use of third-party tools. This method only works if the new version of the application is not supported by your device due to system requirements.

If you are using an old Apple smartphone or tablet, or have not updated iOS to version 8 or 9, you will inevitably encounter limitations - App Store will prompt you to first or update your operating system. However, you can cheat and download not a new version of the application, but one compatible with old technology or an outdated build of iOS.

How to install on iOS old version applications?

1. Go to system iPhone settings or iPad and turn on iCloud synchronization.
2. Launch iTunes on your computer and download the application you need, even if new version.
3. Open the App Store on your mobile device and find the application that you downloaded through iTunes.
4. Near the name of the application, instead of the “download” button, a button with a cloud will appear, which shows what is in your account a "purchase" has already been registered and you can freely download this application on your device.
5. If your iPhone or iPad is incompatible with this application, the system will display an error and... offer to download the version that was once compatible with it.
6. Wait a while - the outdated version of the application will be downloaded to your device.

We emphasize once again that this installation method can only be used on older devices (iPhone 3, 4, etc.), and install outdated versions of applications on new smartphones and Apple tablets you can use the Charlie app, which we recently wrote about. Charlie works as a proxy that downloads from servers Apple needed you a version of the application - more stable than the new one or with features that were subsequently removed by the developers. One of these applications is the official VKontakte client, which once had a full-fledged music section, but now only excerpts from songs are available, leading to the iTunes store.

The editors do not remain aloof from the New Year's excitement and preparation of surprises. Together with the Apple Jesus online store, we have prepared one of the best gifts for any holiday - a brand new iPhone 6s in any color of your choice. To participate in the drawing you only need to complete five simple tasks. Read, participate and good luck!

There are a lot of new things in iOS 11, for example, such functions as many other things, but just because everything has changed, it does not mean that they are better, as a result of this, you can roll back ios. So if you decide it's not for you, you'll be glad to know that you can still go back to iOS 10.3.2. But this window of opportunity for downgrade won't last forever.

When iOS 11 officially launches in September 2017, Apple will no longer sign older versions of the firmware. That is, you will not be able to rollback if you have not saved your SHSHS2 drops. Also in the new version of iOS a lot has appeared.

However, until that day comes, it's actually quite easy to revert to iOS 10.3.2. All you need is a Mac or Windows PC, and the process only takes a few minutes. Better yet, you should be able to save all your apps and data, so let's go ahead and get started, shall we? Download for iOS for free.
"Update" for iOS 10.3.2

This guide will outline two iOS rollback methods that aim to recover an IPSW firmware file from using iTunes. For most people, the steps outlined in Method 1 should be all you need.

However, there is a small chance that data from iOS 11 may cause errors or crashes after you upgrade to iOS 10.3.2. Again, this is rare, but if it happens, you can use the steps outlined in method 2, to erase corrupted data and then restore an old iCloud backup of your data.

First of all, you need to download the iOS 10.3.2 IPSW file for your specific device. This is the firmware file that you will install using iTunes to rollback operating system, and luckily we have a reliable source where you can get this file. So, go to the following link from your computer, then select your device and model.

Then select iOS 10.3.2 when prompted, then click the Download button. The file is quite large so it may take a while to download, but be sure to mark the location of the file once it's finished.

iOS Rollback:Step 2 Install old firmware from iTunes

Next, connect your device to your computer using a Lightning cable, then open iTunes if it doesn't open automatically. From there, click the phone icon near the top left corner of the window to go to the device menu.

From here, make sure the " Summary" is selected on the left side of the window. After this, if you are using a Mac, press and hold the button Option on the keyboard. Otherwise, if you are using Windows, press and hold the button Shift. While holding down the keyboard button, click Check for Updates.

The File Browser menu will then appear - use this to locate and select the IPSW file you downloaded in Step 1. Once you have done this, click Open.

After a few seconds, you will see a pop-up informing you that iTunes will now install iOS 10.3.2 on your device. Click "Update" here, then sit back and wait because the process of installing the old firmware will take up to 30 minutes. Along the way, you may be asked to enter your PIN on your device, so be sure to do so if asked.

Once iTunes finishes installing the old firmware, your device will automatically reboot. When this happens, disconnect your phone from your computer, then follow the prompts on your phone to reenter your password and complete setup.

iOS Rollback: Step 3 Delete your beta profile (beta users only)

You'll now be back to iOS 10.3.2, but if you first used the beta to install iOS 11, you'll soon be prompted to reinstall iOS 11.

To avoid this, go to the menu " General" in Settings, then scroll down and tap Profile. From there, select your beta profile, then click "Delete Profile" at the bottom of the screen. After this, you won't be prompted to install iOS 11 again until the official launch in September.

At this point, you are all set and ready to go. The vast majority of users won't have to worry about the second method below, but if you encounter any errors or glitches, just go back and go through the next section.

Method 2 Restore from iCloud backup (only if you have errors)

This next method is only for people who are experiencing errors after upgrading to iOS 10.3.2. This is rare, but it can happen when there is leftover data from iOS 11 that is not fully compatible with iOS 10.3.2.

If so, the easiest workaround is to restore from the IPSW file again. But this time, don't save the existing data and instead restore it from an old iCloud backup. Alternatively, you can perform a factory reset to clear the corrupted data, but the method in the following steps is slightly faster.

iOS Rollback:Step 1 Find your iOS 10.3.2 backup

First of all, keep in mind that downgrading your firmware using this method will delete existing apps and their data. This means that you will need to save important things. However, iOS 11 backups cannot be restored to iOS 10.3.2, which poses a problem.

You will only be able to restore all your data if you have an archival backup of iOS 10.3.2 (or older). Which was done before downgrading using Method 1. You should have made this iTunes backup when you first installed iOS 11. You can try to perform a backup after using Method 1, but some of the problems may persist.

ICloud should have automatically backed up the last time I ran 10.3.2, so most people will be fine. But to check, connect your device to your computer, then click the phone icon in iTunes to view your backups.

The information provided here does not include iOS version numbers. Therefore, you will need to check the dates of the backups to ensure they were created the last time you ran iOS 10.3.2 (or older). If they were, you would be able to get your data back. Otherwise you will need to start over.

iOS Rollback:Step 2 Disable Find My iPhone

Then you need to disable Find My iPhone. To do this, go to Settings, then tap your name at the top of the list and select iCloud. From here, select Find My iPhone, then turn off the toggle switch on the next screen.

iOS Rollback:Step 3 Downgrade the firmware again

Then reload the IPSW file for your device, if you've lost it since using method 1, then the rest of the process will be pretty easy. This is basically the same as the first one, but with one minor exception, so you can use the above screenshots for visual reference. To get started, connect your iOS device to your computer, then follow these steps:

  1. Open iTunes.
  2. Enter the "Device" menu.
  3. Select the Summary tab.
  4. Hold down the key Option(Mac) or key Shift left(Windows).
  5. Click "Restore iPhone" (or "iPad" or "iPod").
  6. Open the IPSW file.
  7. Confirm your choice by clicking the "Restore" button.

Just like Method 1, iTunes will take care of the rest and your device will restart once it's finished.

iOS Rollback:Step 4 Recover Data from iCloud

Once the process is complete, perform the initial setup on your iPhone. Then choose Set Up as New if you want a fresh start, or Restore from iCloud Backup. If you want to get all your apps and data back. If you're going with the latter, simply sign in to your Apple ID and then select the most recent backup copy of iOS 10.3.2 and your applications and data will be restored. You can also choose "Restore from iTunes Backup" if you backed up iOS 10.3.2 before iOS installation 11 .

Without corrupted iOS 11 data, you will no longer have problems with iOS 10.3.2. But if you have any problems with any of the above methods, please let us know in the comments section below and we will try to point you in the right direction. Also, if you want, you can remove Autoplay for videos in the iOS 11 App Store.

After updating to a new version of iOS, you may notice that you do not like the firmware. In this case, there is a great way out - roll back software to the optimal version, in your opinion. That is, if you updated to, for example, IOS 10, then you can easily install it on your iOS device 8 using the instructions below.

When is it necessary to rollback iOS?

The reasons for installing an older version of the operating system may be the following circumstances:

  • With new firmware versions, the design changes, and not all users may like the new design.
  • The most common reason is the appearance of freezes and glitches. Such problems happen for two reasons: either a new version of the firmware has become available to users in a too crude form, with errors in the code and shortcomings, or the device that was updated has become outdated for the loads created by the new version of IOS.

Please note that it is not possible to roll back any device for any version, detailed information You can view which device to which firmware version can be rolled back to on the following website - http://appstudio.org/shsh. All data is located in table format.

How to roll back iOS to a specific version on an Apple device

Before you begin the process, you need to prepare the following things:

  • iTunes installed on your computer and updated to the latest version.
  • The version of the software you selected, in IPSW format, is downloaded to an easily accessible folder. You can download it from trusted websites that distribute IOS firmware for free, for example, using the following link - http://appstudio.org/ios. Download the firmware strictly for your device model, otherwise problems will arise during installation.
  • A USB adapter that will connect your device to your computer.

If all the above conditions are met by you, then next step will prepare the device itself for the rollback process.

Saving important data

Please note that when you roll back your device, all data, applications and media files from it are permanently erased, so it’s worth taking care of them. There is an option that allows you to delete files from the device, it will be discussed later in the article, but it is no less stable. You can save everything you need using backup copy, created as follows:

Disable password

Another important point is to disable the password and Touch ID, if it is supported and enabled on your device.

Deactivating Find My iPhone

Before any actions with the device’s firmware, you must disable the “Find iPhone” function, since, otherwise, iTunes simply will not allow you to perform any actions:

Firmware rollback

If all previous preparatory work have been carried out, then you can begin the rollback itself. It doesn't matter which device you're downgrading from, or from which version of iOS you're downgrading to.

  1. Connect the device to the computer using a USB adapter.
  2. Log in to the system.
  3. Go to your device's settings by clicking on the icon that looks like a phone or tablet.
  4. Hold down the Shift button on your keyboard if you're using Windows, or the Option button if you're using Mac OS. Without releasing the key, click on the “Restore” button.
  5. A window with folders will open; you need to specify the path to the firmware that you downloaded earlier.
  6. Wait while iTunes extracts the software from the firmware and installs it. The process can last from five minutes to half an hour, do not disconnect the device from the computer or interrupt the process with any actions, otherwise the device may enter endless recovery mode.

Rollback without data loss

This rollback option also exists; it allows you to rollback without losing the data on the device. To do this, in point 4 of the “Rolling Back Firmware” section, you need to click on the “Restore” button and the “Update” button. All other steps are completely the same. The only thing worth considering is that performing a full recovery, that is, resetting the system and installing it from scratch, is safer, since the chance that any elements will remain from the previous version is much lower.

Third party rollback programs

If for some reason the iTunes method does not suit you, then you can use the third-party program RedSnow. It is distributed free of charge for both Windows and Mac OS on the official website of the developer - http://redsnow.ru.

  1. After downloading and opening the program, select the Extras section.
  2. Click on the Even More button.
  3. In the menu that opens, go to the Restore block.
  4. Click the IPSW button to specify the path to the previously downloaded firmware.
  5. The notification that appears will ask you whether to cancel the modem upgrade or not. Click on the “Yes” option.
  6. A window will open in which you will be warned that the device will now need to be put into recovery mode, close it.
  7. Connect the device to the computer using a USB adapter and enter it into DFU Mode. How to do this is described step by step in the program itself.
  8. If you have not performed such rollback operations with this program before, click on the Remote button so that it will automatically find the necessary hashes on its servers.
  9. Done, now all you have to do is wait for the process to finish. The device will automatically update to the version you downloaded and turn on, after which you will have to go through the initial setup process.

Is it possible to roll back individual applications?

If the purpose of your system rollback is to install older versions of applications, then you should not carry it out, since there is a better option - use a special App program Admin. You can download it directly from the App Store for free. Thanks to this application, you can view all available versions applications installed on your phone and roll back to them. To use the program, just select the applications to roll back and enter the unique version number to which you want to roll back the selected application.

So, installing an older version of the software is possible on all devices from Apple, but you can’t roll back to any version, but only to those that have the SHSH signature. The process can be completed either through the official iTunes app, and through third party programs. The main thing is to download correct version firmware and do not interrupt the update process until it is fully completed.

A fairly common situation is that you update an application or game and instead of improved performance and new features, you get a completely non-working tool. Developers of all stripes make similar mistakes, and you can only roll back from a new version to an old one using the Charles Proxy tool.

The Charles Proxy program can also be useful in cases where some functions have been removed in new versions of applications or games. There are a whole host of examples of such remote functions, take for example official applications VKontakte or YouTube, the latest version of which causes only negative emotions in users.

We would like to note right away that despite the apparent complexity, any user can install the old version of any application. The main thing is to strictly follow the instructions. In it we installed one of the first versions of the popular application on the iPad. social network Instagram.

Step 1: Download, Install and Run Charles Tool for Windows or Mac (Download)

Step 2: Launch iTunes and start downloading the app whose older version you want to install on your iPhone or iPad

Step 3. In the Charles window, select the iTunes server from which the application is downloaded with the word "buy". Click on the server name right click and select Enable SSL Proxying

Step 4: Return to the iTunes window and stop downloading the application

Note: if the application has already been downloaded, then it must be deleted in the “My Programs” section

Step 5: Find again the right application in iTunes and start downloading it again

Step 6. Go to the Charles window and find another line with the word “ buy" - this is exactly the object we are looking for. Go back to iTunes and stop downloading the app

Step 7. Expand the found thread with the word “ buy" in Charles and find the line buyProduct

Step 8: Select a stitch buyProduct and go to the tab Response, where specify the display type XML Text

Step 9. On the screen, after the line softwareVersionExternalIdentifiers, you will see lines like:

2948163
3091092
3107891
3171975
3194579
3240261

where the seven-digit number represents the application version numbers, arranged in ascending order. In our example, we rolled back Instagram to a truly ancient version 1.8.7, the build number of which was first in the list. In practice, it is most often necessary to roll back to the previous version, so it is recommended to select the build number (the one enclosed in the tag ) as close to the final version as possible.

Step 10. Right click on the item buyProduct and select Edit

Step 11. Select a section XML Text and find the line in the field:

appExtVrsId
XXXX

where XXXX is the latest version of the application. Instead of XXXX, you need to paste the value copied in step 9, then click Execute. In our example, we changed the number 81542337 to 2948163, thereby rolling back the most recent Instagram version to the earliest.

Step 12. Again, right-click on the item buyProduct and select Breakpoints

Step 14: Go to iTunes, find your application and refresh the page (Ctrl + R on Windows). After that, start downloading the tool

Step 15. A moment after you click the download button, you will be transferred to Charles, where you need to switch to the screen Edit Request -> XML Text. In the field XXXX instead of " XXX» paste the build number you copied in step 9, then click the button Execute.

Step 16. Then click again Execute

Step 17: Go to iTunes and make sure the app has started downloading. Wait for the download to finish

Step 18: In iTunes, select the " My programs", find your application and right-click on it, select " Intelligence" Here you can make sure that the old version of the application is being downloaded

Step 19. Remove from your iPhone or iPad new version required application, connect your device to iTunes and install the old build

Step 20. After synchronization is complete, your smartphone or tablet will have an old version of the required application

Many users of Apple mobile devices are wondering: how to return the old version of iOS? This is usually due to the fact that, having updated to a new version, a person has complaints about the unusual interface, poor compatibility with specific devices or bugs that have appeared.

The developers themselves Apple products do not welcome the option of downgrading to an older version of the software. Yes, they provide the opportunity to roll back to the old version of the operating system immediately after a new update is released (a kind of test mode when developers finish iOS, eliminating bugs and glitches). But some time will pass—two weeks—and it will be impossible to return the old version. Therefore, users of branded devices find workarounds to roll back to the old version of iOS. This article presents the simplest and most effective method of reverting to an older operating system than the one currently on your Apple device. Well, let's solve your problem: How to install the old version?

To avoid losing the data stored in the device's memory, you need to copy it to a safe place. Make it complete backup contents of your gadget in iTunes on PC and iCloud storage. These steps will allow you to return all files and personal data when you roll back to an outdated version of iOS. A rollback involves completely erasing all information on the device, leaving only clean software.

After copying the data in two ways, you need to go to iCloud settings, find your iPhone or iPad there (depending on what device you have) and disable it. This is done in order to remove protection from the software available on the device. Otherwise there is no way to return it previous version iOS. But do not worry about this, because the protection is removed only for the duration of the installation of the old version, and upon completion of the rollback, the protective function will be enabled automatically.

Start installing old iOS

So, how to install the old version? This is done in a few simple steps. You will also need a computer, a USB cable and iTunes (the latest). First of all, check the table (http://appstudio.org/shsh) which old firmware your model supports Apple devices. Then you can proceed directly to starting the installation of the desired iOS.

Step one - download the firmware file

Go to the website http://appstudio.org/ios, here we will download the old one iOS version. The site is in Russian, I don’t think there will be any problems. We select the device type, model, select the firmware that is needed.

Step two - the process of rolling back to the old version of iOS

1 way

Connect your device to your computer using a USB cable. In iTunes, you need to open the device management page. Next, you need to hold down Shift (Alt on Mac), and then refresh the device management window by clicking the corresponding button. Explorer (Finder on Mac) will open, where you need to select old file operating system that you previously downloaded. Confirm the installation of an older operating system.

Method 2 - using RecoveryMode

To enable system emergency recovery mode (RecoveryMode), you need to do the following: hold down HOME button connect the device to the computer via USB (you must first turn off mobile device). Next, launch iTunes, in the “restore iPhone or iPad” window that appears, click “ok”, the File Manager will appear, where you will need to select the firmware you downloaded. Then everything is clear: confirm, installation begins.

That's all, installing the old version is not at all difficult; you can monitor the progress of the process in the iTunes window, at the top of it. Do not interrupt the installation process under any circumstances: do not disconnect the gadget from the computer, do not launch any programs until iOS is installed. You can use the device immediately after you roll back iOS. You will be notified that the installation is complete when a white screen and a welcome message appears. After this, you need to activate your device and use the newly installed iOS without any problems.

Now you can run the old version of the application without any problems and use the interface that you are used to and abandoned due to the update. If for some reason you were unable to roll back the software, describe your problem in the comments. We'll help you figure it out.
