Today we will get acquainted with the largest smartphone from Xiaomi - Mi Max. The device is equipped with a truly huge 6.44-inch screen, which will appeal to fans of phablets. In terms of the filling, everything is not bad, but we will tell you what is actually happening in the review.

The smartphone is provided by the store Xiaomi.ua

Equipment

Inside the white box, slightly larger than the phone, is Charger(5 V / 2 A), USB cable and paper documentation.

Appearance

The design of the Mi Max is not unique - a typical Xiaomi smartphone. However, it is not an enlarged copy of another device. The front side, for some reason, does not contain the MI logo, as was the case on all other smartphones of the mi line. Adjacent to the earpiece is the missed event LED. As a tribute to fashion, the protective glass is rounded around the perimeter.

The cover of the smartphone is not completely metal - there are plastic inserts at the top and bottom, because of this, when checking for twisting, the device creaks a little. There are no squeaks in everyday use. On the one hand, the use of plastic was dictated by economy, because the phone is far from the top-end price range, but, you must agree, a completely metal cover would have looked more attractive.

Positioning the fingerprint reader on the back cover is a common solution. Despite its large size, the index finger rests on it. There is not the slightest comment about the operation of the scanner. The unlocking process is lightning fast and always the first time.

The SIM tray can accept either two SIM cards, a microSIM and a nanoSIM, or a microSIM and a microSD card.

There are currently three color versions available - gray, silver and gold. In all cases, the bezel is white. We have a silver model on the test.

Convenience of work

It's hard to talk about the convenience of working with such a large smartphone. Judge for yourself the dimensions are 173.1 × 88.3 × 7.5 mm and the weight is 203 grams. Even for me, the owner of a large palm, it is inconvenient to use a smartphone with one hand. This is due to the large width, which prevents the finger from reaching the opposite edge of the screen.

At the same time, no one forbids using two hands, thus we get a mini-tablet.

Display

Huge 6.44 inch IPS screen covered protective glass with a good oleophobic coating. Even if you use the device with care, small scratches will inevitably appear on the screen. There is no air gap. The bezel around the screen is not wide. In sunny weather, the information on the screen is easy to see.

The brightness ranges from 421 to 1 cd / m². The low value of the minimum brightness will appeal to lovers of reading before bedtime. Contrast 1 to 1525. The color gamut is wider than the sRGB triangle, and the temperature is only slightly higher than the reference 6500K. By the way, we obtained this data at standard settings screen.

In simple terms, the screen is excellent. The colors are rich, the contrast is high, and the ability to adjust the temperature allows you to fine-tune the screen to suit your own preferences.

Hardware platform

The Xiaomi Mi Max comes in a variety of options. Smartphones with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor can be equipped with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of user memory, or with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of user memory. Versions with Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 only in versions with 3/64 and 4/128 GB. It should be remembered that there is a slot for microSD memory cards.

A version with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor in the 3/32 GB modification came to our review.

We are already familiar with this processor. The performance of the smartphone is sufficient for any task. The synthetic tests show that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 outperforms devices based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808/801, which cannot be called weak.

In daily use, Mi Max runs smoothly and without any glitches or freezes. The power is enough to play at maximum settings even for the most modern games such as World of Tanks Blitz and Need for Speed No Limits.

There is support Wi-Fi standard ac and CDMA networks. The latter work only under the rev protocol. A. Conveniently, both SIM slots understand cards with 3G Internet. There are no complaints about GPS.

During normal use, the Xiaomi Mi Max barely gets warm. Even demanding games do not heat up the phone critically. During use, the greatest heating was during the AnTuTu Tester autonomy test.

The multimedia speaker is loud, of good quality, but only one. The earpiece seemed quiet, on my mi4c it is a little louder. Therefore, speaking on the phone in a noisy place, you had to listen. No complaints about the microphone. The sound quality in the headphones is good, but there is no headroom. Paired with my Xiaomi Mi Quantie Hybrid PRO headphones in the metro, I had to turn the volume up to maximum.

We have already talked about the MIUI 8 shell in one of the previous materials. One has only to complain that the interface does not flip over to horizontal mode. To fix this, you can install a third-party launcher, but this is not the best way out. Otherwise, everything is convenient and familiar if you have used MIUI at least once.

Autonomy

The battery capacity is 4850 mAh. Paired with not the most energy-consuming platform, the result should be worthy.

In practice, it is difficult to land a smartphone even after two days of use. I have used extensively social media, watched videos, read, photographed, listened to music and all the same, the smartphone confidently lives for two days, with an active screen indicator of 6 hours. The synthetic test PCMark gave 11 hours of active screen at a brightness of 200 cd / m².

Charging with a standard charger takes just over three hours. Support for Qualcomm Quick Charge technology has not been officially announced, but the smartphone does.

Camera

The main camera has a 16 megapixel sensor with an F / 2.0 aperture and a flash consisting of two LEDs of different temperatures. The front camera is 5 megapixels, too, with an aperture of F / 2.0. The application interface is the same as that of other Xiaomi smartphones.

The quality of the pictures taken with the main camera can be estimated as above average. It copes worst of all in low light conditions and at night. During the day, too, not everything is perfect, namely, the aggressive work of the noise control is very noticeable. At the same time, pictures in HDR mode are vivid.

The editors would like to thank the Xiaomi.ua store for providing a smartphone for testing.

A couple of years ago smartphones with 5.5-inch screens were considered huge. Nowadays, you will not surprise anyone with either 6-inch phones or 7-inch tablets with phone functions. "Shovel phones" are a specific niche, but there is also a demand for exotic 6+ diagonal, Xiaomi took care of such users and released a huge Mi MAX. This is not surprising, because there are a lot of fans of large smartphones in China.

What is it?

Xiaomi Mi MAX - huge smartphone with 6.44-inch FullHD-screen, fresh and efficient 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 or 652 processor, 2, 3 or 4 GB random access memory, a 16-megapixel camera and the current version of Android with a proprietary MIUI shell.

Why is it interesting?

Of course, the main highlight of a smartphone (or tablet, if you like it more) is the 6.44-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 × 1080. It is great for surfing the web, playing games, watching TV shows in transport, but how convenient is such a giant in everyday tasks? I am not a fan of such large smartphones and I was very interested: can I get used to it and use it without difficulty.

But back to the features: Xiaomi Mi MAX received a fresh six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor and 3 GB of RAM (in nature there is still a version with an eight-core Snapdragon 652 and 4 GB of RAM). The characteristics, although not top-end, are very impressive. All this is powered by a 4850 mAh battery. Another interesting feature is current version Android 6.0 Marshmallow with a fresh version of the MIUI 8 shell, which has not yet been released.

What's in the box?

The smartphone is packed in a modest white cardboard box with a bunch of hieroglyphs and the inscription Max. The scope of delivery is exactly the same as in other Xiaomi models: the smartphone itself, a USB-MicroUSB cable, a charger, an adapter for our sockets, a clip for removing the SIM, MicroSD tray and all sorts of instructions:

How interesting does he look?

The smartphone has not received any revolutionary solutions in construction and design, but this does not prevent it from looking good. The back of the smartphone is made of metal, the front - glass with 2.5D curved edges. The back cover has significantly curved edges, making the smartphone easier to hold in your hands. On the front panel there is a screen, above it there is an earpiece, a set of sensors, a front camera and an LED indicator for notifications:

Below the screen are three standard Xiaomi touch buttons for accessing running applications, returning to the home screen and returning one level. They have a not very bright white backlighting, it is enough for the buttons to be visible in the dark, but not blind the user.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack, an additional microphone and an infrared remote control for controlling consumer electronics:

Earlier, in Xiaomi smartphones of the middle and lower price range, the external speaker was located on the back of the case, which is not very convenient. In Mi MAX, as in the company's flagships, they moved to the lower edge. It is located under the right series of round holes, the conversational microphone is symmetrically located, in the middle is the MicroUSB connector:

The power and volume control buttons are located on the right side, they are also made of metal. Perfectly fitted, non-wobbly and well pressed:

Only the tray for SIM-cards and MicroSD is placed on the left side:

It is combined, it includes either two SIM cards (one Micro and one nano), or SIM plus MicroSD. In our version, a 32 GB drive is installed, which will be enough for a number of users. There is also a version with 64 GB:

Almost the entire back cover is made of metal. Only in the upper and lower parts there are plastic inserts for the antennas. The back cover houses a fingerprint scanner and the Mi logo:

I got used to the location of the scanner in about half a day of use. The camera module is located in the upper left corner. Close to the camera - dual LED flash:

For comparison - photo next to Apple iPhone 6. Pretty impressive difference:

Now some personal impressions. In terms of build quality, looks and materials, I had no complaints. The size, of course, takes some getting used to. After a day and a half, I could quite confidently operate the smartphone with one hand (calls, small messages and other basic functions). The shape of the smartphone turned out to be successful to hold it with one hand is not as problematic as it seemed at first. In the pockets of spacious shorts, the giant Mi MAX fits without problems and does not cause discomfort when walking, but it is not so convenient to sit in your pocket with it. With classic jeans, things are not so good, the smartphone slightly interferes with walking. In general, the impressions are positive: Xiaomi managed to make the Mi MAX as comfortable as possible with such dimensions. The gadget weighs 203 g, and the thickness of the case is 7.5 mm.

How good is the screen?

The smartphone has a 6.44-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) screen with no air gap, the pixel density is 342 PPI. We have seen smartphones with significantly higher pixel density, but in this case, I could not distinguish between individual pixels. Protected screen4th generation Corning Gorilla Glass with 2.5D rounded edges. There is a high-quality oleophobic coating. The maximum brightness of the screen is high and even in the bright sun it remains quite readable:

The picture quality is also good. Xiaomi does not use frankly cheap screens in its smartphones (in any case, I did not come across). The viewing angles are maximum, the picture is not distorted and only minimally loses in brightness at maximum angles. The only thing that can be a little annoying is the black border around the perimeter. It is not so striking with such a diagonal, but it is:

Multi-touch supported up to 10 touches:

Despite the updated version of MIUI 8, the basic screen settings remain the same. There is a reading mode, settings for colors and contrast, brightness, font size, auto-rotate and wake up with a double tap on the screen:

A hardware study of the screen with a colorimeter showed that it was really good. The maximum brightness was at the level flagship Huawei P9, but more modest than the Xiaomi Mi5, and the contrast is even better. Maximum brightness: 420.113 cd / m2, black field brightness 0.259 cd / m2 and contrast ratio 1622: 1. The calibration is not perfect, but if you want, you can customize it as you like:

The graphs obtained using the colorimeter:

Device nameBrightness of the white field,
cd / m2
The brightness of the black field,
cd / m2
Contrast
Xiaomi Mi MAX 420.113 0.259 1622:1
Xiaomi Mi 5 517.946 0.392 1321:1
Meizu M3 Note 344.943 0.601 574:1
Huawei P9 420.175 0.541 777:1
Lenovo A5000 353.907 0.742 477:1

What about performance, memory, sound and battery life?

The smartphone is currently available in four versions:

  • six-core Snapdragon 650, 2 GB RAM + 16 GB internal storage
  • Snapdragon 650, 3 GB + 32 GB (this version is on our review)
  • Snapdragon 652 octa-core, 3GB + 64GB
  • Snapdragon 652 4GB + 128GB

There are plenty to choose from. Our device is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 650, which includes two Cortex A72 cores at 1.8 GHz and 4xCortex A53 at 1.4 GHz, plus fresh Adreno 510 graphics and 3 GB of RAM. Not top-end, but very impressive stuffing, which allows not only the interface to fly, but also modern games. In fact (and such a scenario of use is quite relevant given the size of the display), no game slows down and only in the most demanding the back of the Xiaomi Mi MAX heats up, again, within reasonable limits and does not cause discomfort:

As mentioned above, in our version there is 32 GB of internal memory (of which about 24 GB are available), there is support for memory cards up to 128 GB, but in this case, you will have to abandon the second SIM. Whoever is not enough and needs more space for music / movies / photos - there is a 64 GB option, which we are already selling. The top version of 128 GB has not yet arrived.

The music player itself and proprietary enhancers have not formally changed, the interface is still the same. The smartphone sounds decent (like for a smartphone) and has a volume margin. Shoving any 250-ohm Beyerdynamics is not worth it, but for more "everyday" models it will be enough. I remember when reviewing the Xiaomi Mi 5 I had questions about the volume headroom. One gets the impression that there was a limitation exclusively in a specific firmware (global 7.2.8.0):

The smartphone is equipped with dual-band Wi-Fi ac / a / b / g / n (2.4 and 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 LE and an infrared port for controlling equipment. There is only NFC, although there is nothing fatal about it. The proprietary application for managing electronics is gradually being finished and the design is slightly changed, but there are no significant changes. Many devices are supported, after full customization a separate shortcut appears on the desktop to access a specific console:

The smartphone works with global positioning systems GPS (supported by A-GPS), GLONASS and Beidou, there are no problems with the module:

The Xiaomi Mi MAX has a large 4850 mAh battery, although this is not that much considering the 6.44-inch screen. In real conditions, the smartphone proved to be very worthy: video can be played for about 10 hours, games - about 5.5 hours. In everyday use, I had enough for 1.5-2 days without any problems (with almost always connected 3G or Wi-Fi, 20 minutes of conversations, about an hour of games and 10-15 photos). Supported fast charging Quick Charge 2.0.

For those who want to know more

The smartphone has a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor, which is manufactured by 28nm process technology. It is equipped with one block with two powerful ARM Cortex-A72 cores clocked at 1.8 GHz and an energy efficient block with four ARM Cortex-A53 at 1.4 GHz plus a graphics acceleratorAdreno 510 at 600 MHz. Regarding the various versions, it has already been written above, now about the specific results of performance tests of the variant that we have visited with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. In AnTuTu, the smartphone is gaining a little over 75,000 parrots, which is very worthy for a mid-range smartphone. In GeekBench, the indicators are also convincing, the smartphone demonstrates performance at the level of last year's flagships:

What about the firmware and interface?

The smartphone runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS with MIUI 8 proprietary shell. Despite the fact that the so-called "weekly", not "stable" version is installed, it works quickly and without significant bugs. Without running applications, about 1.8 of 3 GB of RAM is free. The shell has been significantly altered, below I will try to mention all the main innovations and features. The very organization of desktops and the absence of a separate application menu are left over from previous versions. Now it is possible to automatically load and change the wallpaper, although this is not so essential:

The top curtain has been completely redesigned. Now it is closer to the "native" appearance of Android Marshmallow. There are two options for displaying it. In the first, all the switches are located in one scrolling line, below is the brightness setting, under which current notifications are displayed. Above the switches is a weather widget, the entire curtain changes color depending on the weather and time of day. There is also a button to go to the settings and a quick search:

The second option is the same as in previous MIUI versions. With two separate tabs for notifications and toggles, but with a new visual design:

Redesigned application manager. It also has two modes of operation (from old version with icons and large windows). By pulling the application up, now you can not only block it, but also go to the settings:

There is a so-called "Keystroke Assistant" - an additional button that can be placed anywhere on the screen, which provides quick access to the main functions, can be reconfigured at your discretion. We have already seen similar things in EMUI and Flyme:

There is a proprietary application for cleaning memory from garbage and other useful functions, including power saving mode. It is possible to enable and disable it on a schedule, for example, at night:

The setting for using SIM cards remained practically unchanged:

A very important innovation in MIUI 8 is the ability to add a second user. To do this, there is a corresponding item in the settings. You can set passwords for each user, import applications, images and other files into the second profile in whole or in part. The function is organized simply and clearly, and to change the user you do not need to reboot the smartphone:

The branded "notes" application has slightly changed and resembles Google Keep:

The one-handed control function with a decrease in the screen to a more sane size, which is started by swiping from the middle touch button to one of the side ones (depending on the desired position). Reductions to 3.5, 4 or 4.5 inches are available:

Setting up the lock screen and fingerprint registration is similar. previous versions, there are only minimal cosmetic changes. The scanner itself works very quickly and accurately, although this will not surprise anyone:

And a set of standard applications. Some have changed slightly, some have remained the same:

In general, MIUI received a rather significant update, which brought a number of new functions, capabilities and interface modifications, although there are no cardinal innovations. There are useful and pleasant little things, and MIUI 8 looks a little closer to stock Android. The shell is still fast, lightweight, light on resources, and is perfectly organized.

How are things with the camera?

The Xiaomi Mi MAX has a 16-megapixel main camera with 5-element optics, f / 2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and dual LED flash. Front camera - 5 MP, f / 2.0 aperture, and a wide angle of 85 °. The interface has slightly changed cosmetic, although all the logic remains the same. There are different shooting modes, filters and different HDR modes:

Supported video recording in 4K and slow motion in HD-resolution with a frame rate of 120 fps. Photos taken with the main camera are really of very good quality, they focus quickly.

Standard Mode:

4K video:

In the dry residue

If you have definitely decided for yourself that you need a smartphone with a huge screen, then Xiaomi Mi MAX is one of the most attractive options at the moment. In fact, all the closest competitors have a smaller screen (6 inches): Huawei Mate 7 is far from the first freshness with more modest hardware and battery, Sony Xperia The XA Ultra is also more modest at a comparable cost, and the 6.8-inch giant Asus ZenFone 3 Deluxe is not for sale yet, so it's too early to judge the price. Xiaomi Mi MAX turned out to be convenient (of course, within its category), received a very solid screen and relevant, productive internals and fresh Android version with an updated proprietary shell. You can only find fault with the hybrid SIM / MicroSD tray and the black frame around the perimeter of the screen, which is visible against the background of the white front panel.

5 reasons to buy Xiaomi Mi MAX:

  • Quality materials and excellent assembly;
  • excellent display (in its class);
  • high performance;
  • fast and accurate fingerprint scanner;
  • convenient and nimble MIUI8 shell.

2 reasons not to buy Xiaomi Mi MAX:

  • you don't need a huge smartphone;
  • simultaneous operation of both SIM-cards and MicroSD is important.
Specifications Xiaomi Mi MAX
Display IPS, 6.44 inches, 1920x1080, 342 ppi, no air gap, Gorilla Glass 4
Housing dimensions 173.1x88.3x7.5 mm, weight: 203 g
CPU 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 650/652, 2 or 4 ARM Cortex-A72 cores at 1.8 GHz + 4xCortex-A53 at 1.4 GHz, Adreno 510 graphics
RAM 2/3/4 GB
Flash memory 16/32/64/128 GB, USB OTG, MicroSD up to 128 GB
Camera 16 MP, F / 2.0, 5-element optics, dual LED

In all other respects, the Mi Max screen is good - very bright (although there is no 600 cd / m2 or more in it, at least in the manual adjustment mode), the contrast is also good, and the colors are not oversaturated, contrary to the latest vulgar fashion. Tempered glass is durable, does not get dirty and does not collect scratches for no good reason.

The sound in the headphones of the Mi Max is peculiar. Xiaomi got at its disposal a good soundtrack Snapdragon 650/652, and this could be limited to. But the Chinese went their own way, so initially the phablet sounds dirty, inexpressive and generally worse than it should be given such initial data. But in the audio settings there is a bunch of settings for Xiaomi headphones and an equalizer.

To be honest, the presets for “native equipment” are not inspiring - for the basic Xiaomi Piston 3, for example, the installation from the “Piston 3 Youth Edition” headphones came up. And from "just Piston 3", judging by the miserable sound, did not fit.

Better to quit doing nonsense and not connecting presets, but activate the equalizer and adjust the knobs specifically for your headphones. In this version, the sound will be good - no worse than that of conventional smartphones for non-audiophiles.

The speaker in Mi Max is of average quality, it was clearly introduced into the smartphone after they measured the space for the battery and processor. That is, the sound is average in volume, but not painfully intelligible - it does not come to wheezing or squealing, but in general, the famous speakers in computer clubs of the 1990s gave such sound.

Iron

The first thing for which Xiaomi smartphones are loved is that they are loaded with powerful processors at a minimal price. Mi Max is no exception, although the creators did not make it a flagship and limited themselves to Qualcomm's “sub-flagship” processors with six and eight cores. In principle, after the release of Redmi Note 3, no one is surprised by such components.

One-handed operation is excellent. You can choose a convenient diagonal of the control area or turn on the Touch Assistant - an additional floating multifunctional key.

Cameras

The main camera uses a 16-megapixel module from an unnamed manufacturer. Fans of artistic mobile photography should take a closer look at the flagship model. The rear camera will not leave everyone else indifferent. Examples of photographs under both artificial lighting and bright sun can be seen below.

The native shooting application pleases with a large number of settings. Supported filters, blur, fish-eye effect, face detection, age and gender. And even - elimination of screen flickering, and you can choose the refresh rate.

The flash is sufficient not only for shooting, but also for use as a flashlight. The maximum video quality is 1080p (Full HD, 30 frames per second). The front camera allows you to take great selfies.

Autonomy

Xiaomi has promised phenomenal battery life. In fact, Mi Max does not set records, but its results cannot be called bad either.

When playing Full HD video with average screen brightness, the battery life is 10 hours. At maximum brightness - 8 hours. Half an hour of playing World Of Tanks over Wi-Fi reduces battery power by 7%. In a mixed mode of use (with LTE / GPS / Wi-Fi turned on and medium brightness), the smartphone is enough for 4 hours of surfing the Internet and chatting in instant messengers, 1 hour of playing, 3 hours of listening to music on headphones. If necessary, the gluttony of the gadget can be reduced directly in the system.

A full charge takes over 4 hours. However, the process can be accelerated. Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology allows you to charge the battery up to 80% in 30 minutes due to the increased voltage and amperage. True, you have to use a proprietary or Qualcomm-certified charger.

Wireless interfaces and communication

Voice communication works great. The interlocutor can be heard clearly, he also does not complain. Interruptions in work cellular not noticed during testing, the protocol of operation corresponds to the coverage areas. In the presence of LTE coverage, the smartphone consistently shows a good Internet speed, if necessary, instantly switching to 2G to make calls. Unfortunately, VoLTE, a promising standard for voice transmission in fourth-generation networks, has not yet been implemented in Russia, so it was not possible to test it.

Communication with satellites is stable. GPS turns on in 20 seconds if there is no information about the location of satellites and 3-5 seconds if there is one.

Via infrared port and applications MiHome or ZaZaRemote ("Telecontrol Wizard"), you can control home appliances: both Xiaomi gadgets and familiar TVs or air conditioners.

Outcomes

Despite the huge diagonal, Xiaomi Mi Max turned out to be an extremely convenient smartphone with good filling and optimized software. In the near future, we should expect firmware updates that will increase battery life. But now, taking into account the current exchange rate, this is a replacement for the Xperia Z Ultra.

The basic version, reviewed in the review, costs about $ 250 today. The flagship Mi Max (4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory) will cost the Russian buyer about $ 305. The 3 / 64GB intermediate option costs $ 251.

The performance of the smartphone will last for another couple of years. In general, you need a phablet - choose Xiaomi.

At the very end of the second July decade, the general public was presented with another phablet from Xiaomi called Mi Max 3. Such an update has been expected for a long time.

The previous model has been on the market for quite some time. During the sales period, it has become obsolete both technically and morally. So the Mi Max 3 arrived exactly when it should. Let's take a closer look at the new phablet from Xiaomi within the framework of this material.

Unboxing Xiaomi Mi Max 3

Specifications

Video review of Xiaomi Mi Max 3:

Appearance and body

Fans of the Chinese manufacturer will immediately recognize appearance new phablet smartphone Xiaomi Mi 6X. If from the front side the smartphone Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is very similar to the representatives of the Redmi line, then it is rear panel makes it akin to 6X. In general, the frames seem to be narrower than on the younger models due to the fact that the screen diagonal has increased. Dimensions of the Mi Max 3 phablet: 176x87x7.99.

Of course it's pretty big smartphone... And it is rather difficult to use it with one hand. But this phablet fits into your pocket without much difficulty. And this is its undoubted advantage. Surely due to this feature, some potential customers will want to switch from the Redmi line to the Mi Max line.

The body of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 phablet is made of aluminum. It is sandblasted. So the tactile sensations from interacting with the phone are very pleasant.

On the top edge of the phablet, you can see a standard audio connector, a microphone designed to suppress extraneous noise and an infrared port. Everything here is pretty standard for this manufacturer! There is a card slot on the left edge.

On the left, you can see a swing designed to adjust the volume level and a power button for the device.

On the lower edge, a potential buyer will see perforation for two speakers. And in the case of Xiaomi Mi Max 3, this is not a props at all! This phablet really has two stereo speakers. Thanks to this feature, watching a movie on a device only brings a positive experience. There is absolutely no need to connect headphones or an additional speaker to the phablet. In addition, the phablet itself can be used as a miniature speaker, listening to music with it.

The sound quality will satisfy even the most demanding customers! Between the speakers is the now familiar USB type-c port. For some potential buyers, this is a pretty significant plus.

The rear model, on the other hand, resembles a kind of symbiosis from the panels of Mi 6X and iPhone X. From the first device, the phablet got a body with hidden antennas and the location of a fingerprint scanner. But from the second gadget, the phablet inherited the design of a dual camera. In general, the smartphone looks very fresh and decent. This fact will undoubtedly attract a large number of buyers to the new device. But technical characteristics play a more significant role.

Screen

The phablet display has a 6.9-inch diagonal. In fact, the Mi Max 3 blurs the line between smartphones and tablets. Because tablets just start at 7 inches diagonal.

It is only natural that the display has an aspect ratio of two to one. Its resolution is equal to the Full HD Plus value. At the same time, the screen area occupies as much as 85% of the area of the entire front panel. That's a lot! In addition, the performance of the display itself has improved over its predecessor. Brightness, contrast, and color gamut have become better. The viewing angles for the IPS matrix are excellent. The gadget is convenient to use both in direct sunlight and in complete darkness. There are enough brightness controls for absolutely any conditions.

Iron

There were many rumors about what kind of processor the future Max series smartphone will be equipped with. The most optimistic forecasts could be expected on the new snapdragon 710 device. After a while there was a rumor that the new product would be equipped with a snapdragon 660 processor. In practice, it turned out that buyers can rely only on the snapdragon 636. This is a pretty good processor, but I would still like to have a larger power reserve.

Do not think that he is weak! This processor handles highly demanding games at medium to high graphics settings. But will the power reserve be enough for about two years? Hardly anyone will be able to answer this question with complete certainty. So the processor can be considered sufficient, but not the best option. The Adreno 509 video core contributes to the overall performance.

As for the memory, now you can find on sale Mi Max 3 with 4 or 6 GB of RAM and 64 or 128 GB of RAM, respectively. The built-in memory can be significantly expanded with an optional card.

Cameras

But the cameras can be called one of the strongest sides of the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 phablet. The fact is that the Sony imx363 12 megapixel is used as the main module. This is an excellent module that can be found on much more expensive devices than the Max 3. This module is paired with a 5 megapixel module from Samsung.

The main advantage for the average user is that this smartphone has ultra-fast focusing. This means that you can take photos even in dynamics and they will not be blurry. Supports 4K video recording camera. At the same time, the smartphone has electronic video stabilization. So from this point of view, everything is also at a decent level!

The front camera of the phablet has only 8 megapixels. This solution cannot be called the best. Rather on front camera decided to save a little. But overall, she takes very decent pictures. In addition, this camera is used to recognize a person's face, which allows you to unlock the phone by face.

Battery

The phablets of the Mi Max series have always been distinguished by their autonomy. And the new Xiaomi Mi Max 3 is no exception here. On the contrary, the capacity of its battery has increased to 5500 mAh. In addition, this battery supports third-generation Quick Charge charging. Thanks to her, the phablet is charged up to 100% in less than 2 hours. And that's even more impressive when you think about battery capacity. By the way, Max 3 can be used like Power bank charging other devices from it. Quite a useful feature! Moreover, if you usually use not one, but several gadgets at once.

Many users expected to receive an NFC module on the Mi Max 3. Unfortunately, in practice, the manufacturer never installed this module in a new phablet. The reason for this is rather not the desire to reduce the cost of the device, but marketing. Since when NFC module in the Max line, the meaning disappears in some models of the older series. Here is such a feature. But Mi Max 3 has a Bluetooth 5.1 module. But this can hardly compensate for the inability to pay in the store using NFC.

Output

In general, the third generation Xiaomi Mi Max turned out to be very balanced. Yes, it is not suitable for everyone. For example, girls would rather prefer a gadget with a small body size and a miniature display. But there is a huge number of those people who, on the contrary, would like to get a big screen. So Max 3 will surely find its customers.

The only real downside is the lack of an NFC module. As for the processor, the installation of the 636 dragon is still a rather controversial issue. Although the same 625 is used on different devices for over two years. Otherwise, the phablet has almost only advantages!
