Smartphone in thin metal case... With a 5.2-inch screen, it has a compact body size. Not deprived of memory, both operational and permanent. There is a fingerprint scanner.

Introduction

In 2016, Samsung launched new line Galaxy smartphones C. Smartphones of this series were developed specifically for the Chinese market and are unlikely to be officially introduced in other countries. At least for today, this is so, and since the release in June 2016, enough time has passed. C series B apparatus lineup Samsung falls somewhere between the A and S series and has both the characteristics of the premium models and the disadvantages of the company's budget smartphones. By ordering Samsung Galaxy C5 from China, it must be remembered that due to the fact that the devices are intended for sale in the Chinese market, in the pre-installed operating Android system versions 6.0 are missing google apps, including the app store Play Market... The situation is saved by the presence official firmware for Hong Kong, which does not differ from the firmware installed on smartphones sold in the world and has everything you need for normal operation.

Design, appearance devices

Samsung Galaxy C5 is a candy bar made of metal and glass. It is available in several colors: Silver, Gold, Rose Gold, Dark Gray. With a screen diagonal of 5.2 inches, the smartphone measures 145.9 x 72 x 6.7 mm, which makes it one of the smallest smartphones with a similar screen size. The glass has rounded edges, the so-called 2.5D, and a high-quality oleophobic coating. Samsung claims that the glass is scratch resistant, but more detailed information the manufacturer and type of glass used could not be obtained from the company. Let's hope it is made using a technology similar to Gorilla Glass or Dragontrail.

At the top are the front camera, earpiece grille, proximity / lighting sensors and an LED event indicator. The indicator is exactly what the model borrowed from its more expensive counterparts, like the fingerprint scanner. The Home key this time is flush with the surface of the front panel, which is not only beautiful, but also practical, because it is made of plastic and can be easily scratched. The back panel is completely metal, except for the antenna dividers. It has a slightly protruding camera lens, LED flash and Samsung logo pressed into the metal. At the top we see only the noise canceling microphone. On the left are the volume control keys, and on the right are the power key and a tray for SIM cards and a memory card (a memory card is installed instead of the second SIM card). The keys are pressed pleasantly and firmly, although there is a barely noticeable backlash, which does not cause discomfort. At the bottom there are: 3.5 headphone jack, microphone, Micro USB connector and speaker grill.

The smartphone looks very harmonious and, thanks to the materials used and the build quality, is expensive. Due to its relatively light weight and low thickness, it is pleasant to hold in your hands. Personally, I get a real aesthetic pleasure from this smartphone.

Display

The smartphone is equipped with a 5.2 mm Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, which gives a density of 424 ppi. The picture is of high quality, it is well read in the sun, the colors are bright and juicy. There is an opportunity to adjust the color rendition. Nevertheless, as is often the case on AMOLEDs, it is not always possible to withstand a uniform white color. On my copy, the white color "walks" slightly from the top to the bottom of the screen. But this is if you look specifically. Full HD screen resolution is enough to not notice the pixelation of the image and, at the same time, to save battery power. In my opinion, with such a diagonal, a higher resolution would be already superfluous.

The adaptive brightness control works adequately and does not attract attention to itself.

The touch keys located under the screen are backlit, but, unfortunately, there is no vibration when pressed, as in the younger Samsung models.

The Samsung Galaxy C5 has a 2600 mAh Li-Ion battery, which at first glance may seem insufficient. However, a relatively modest processor, coupled with an economical Super AMOLED display and adequate screen resolution, allow the device to work day and night with an average load. If you do not play gluttonous games, then you will not need to charge your smartphone during the day. And in case you are using your smartphone to the fullest, there is a technology fast charging Adaptive Fast Charging, with which you can charge it very quickly.

Performance

One of weak points This smartphone is equipped with a pair of Snapdragon 617 processor and a relatively outdated Adreno 405 graphics chip. Despite this, with eight cores, the processor provides reliable operation of the interface and most applications. Contributes to this and as much as 4 gigabytes random access memory... In the AnTuTu benchmark, the Galaxy C5 scored 45,200 points. This is quite enough for the average user, but if you like to play modern 3D games, then it may be worth paying attention to more productive platforms.

Camera

Modern technologies today have reached the level when even budget smartphones give an acceptable quality of shooting. The competitive moment shifted to more complex matters, shooting at night, the possibilities of manual mode, etc. The Galaxy C5 has a 16MP autofocus camera, but no OIS. And here we bit off a little so that it would not be too good. Samsung is very afraid of internal competition between its models. Photos in good lighting are excellent, the color rendition is quite accurate. When poor lighting, unfortunately, it is immediately noticeable that this camera is far from the flagships. I will give as an example several photos taken in different conditions.

Not so long ago, Samsung announced its intention to release a fresh line of smartphones for the mid-price category. And it's not even about the updated A-series models that appeared on the market in early 2017. We are talking about Galaxy C, not the most famous, but no less interesting line of South Korean devices that is developing at a rapid pace. Let's start with an overview Samsung smartphone Galaxy C9 Pro.

Specifications

Initially, Galaxy C positioned itself as an improved analogue of the Galaxy A series. The phones had a completely metal case without glass inserts (A has them), a large amount of RAM (but cannot boast of it), a processor with a good level of performance and the latest Android. These were the Samsung Galaxy C5 and C7. But at the end of 2016, the Korean manufacturer expanded the series of mid-range smartphones and the Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro entered the market, instantly causing a resonance among the “residents” of the mobile gadgets sphere.

Housing

The appearance of the smartphone is not much different from most of its congeners at Samsung. The bezel of the phone includes standard set... This, of course, is the display, as well as the speaker located above it, the front camera, the proximity sensor and the manufacturer's logo. A mechanical button “Home” and two invisible sensors - “Return” and “List of applications” were placed below.

The phone has a stylish metal body and 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4

The body of the phone, like any model of the line, is completely made of glass. Galaxy C9 Pro has some similarities with the same Galaxy J5 Prime - not only because of the duplicate design of the front, but also because of the strong similarity rear panels... However, the J5 Prime has plastic inserts on the top and bottom of the case, which makes the phone extremely fragile in those places. The C9 Pro, due to its all-metal “attire”, did not take over the weak points from its senior colleague. The device pleases the owners with its durability.

The phone's dimensions are surprising, but they do it nicely. The dimensions of the case are 162.9 x 80.7 mm with a thickness of 6.9 mm. The weight is 189 g. The gadget has a very large display, but the creators of the model managed to maintain its ergonomics. Thanks to the comfortable and well-thought-out proportions, the C9 Pro fits like a glove in the hand.

Unfortunately, there are not so many available colors: rose gold, gold and dark gray.

Technachinka

The phone is equipped with an eight-core Snapdragon 653 processor, clocked at 1.9 GHz. The processor consists of four Cortex A72 cores and the same number of Cortex A53. As a graphics processor, there is a fresh Adreno 510.

Such a technical base allows the phone to cope with various daily tasks without any problems. Will not disappoint the device and inveterate mobile gamers - the hardware in the C9 Pro runs almost all games without any whims. The exception is heavy and resource-intensive 3D “monsters”. Still, it is worth remembering that this is a mid-range phone, and not a senior representative of the flagship line.

The gadget has the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with a lightweight custom TouchWiz shell. It allows you to make the most of the large screen real estate.

Reversible USB connector significantly saves cable connection time

Home function button

The familiar mechanical Home button, located under the screen, now combines several useful functions. Firstly, it can serve as a fingerprint scanner, with which you reliably protect your data from prying eyes. Secondly, double-clicking this button automatically launches the camera, eliminating the need to unlock the phone. Thirdly, a triple tap on Home will put the phone into one-handed mode. It is very convenient if, for example, you are riding in public transport while standing and the other hand is busy with the handrail.

Blue filter

It's great to see how developers care about their customers. For example, the guys from Samsung are doing everything so that the user can spend as much time as possible with his device, and for this they are trying to make the interaction process as easy as possible. If your eyes get tired of a bright phone screen, the developers from Samsung have already thought about this point and put a blue filter in the C9 Pro.It will carefully reduce the brightness of the screen and relieve the strain from the owner's eyes.

Always-On-Display

The developers also figured out how to save their fans from the painful check for updates and notifications. Samsung GalaxyC9 Pro is equipped with Always-On-Display. When activated, a different display is displayed on the phone screen even in inactive mode. helpful information- calendar, clock, new notifications and more.

A useful feature that almost all phones older than economy class are equipped with, Always-On-Display, displays important notifications on the screen even in offline mode

Camera capabilities

Like some models in the A line, the C9 Pro has an equal power base and front camera... They both have 16 megapixels and have a f / 1.9 focal length. Autofocus is provided for them, which in turn is equipped with phase detection technology. Of course, even in spite of the high resolution of the lenses, comparing images from a mid-range phone and any flagship from a more luxurious niche is not the most interesting thing. The quality of the images obtained on the Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro turns out to be very decent for a mid-range phone, but not flagship.

The phone has several built-in modes, including HDR. If earlier this mode caused many doubts about its necessity and usefulness, now, perhaps, more and more users note that this mode is very necessary. Especially when shooting city landscapes, where the conditions are rather difficult for competently arranging photography. This mode allows you to maintain the light balance of the image, not allowing some objects to "fall" into the darkness, while others, on the contrary, remain exposed.

Daytime shooting

During the day and in good light, the C9 Pro produces excellent photo quality. Detail, brightness, saturation and clarity of images - you will have all this, no need to worry. The phone pulls out the color rendition “with a bang” - the tones and halftones are as close as possible to the original ones. The pictures come out juicy, but at the same time they look natural, without overexposure and leaving in neon colors. The camera adjusts the white balance extremely accurately and quickly, the same can be said about the brightness. Among other things, autofocus works very quickly.

Photo gallery: Samsung Galaxy C9 Pro daytime shooting features

During daytime shooting, bright and saturated images are obtained. The temperature of the photo, as always, is slightly overestimated, but this is only beneficial for photos. In dimmer lighting, the camera slightly reduces the level of detail and a little noise appears in the photo
The camera demonstrates excellent white balance and fast autofocus, but the foreground often falls into darkness Macro mode also impresses with the level of detail Color rendition in macro mode is excellent, autofocus does not junk
The HDR mode is quite effective, which brings the light balance of photos to harmony, eliminating gaps and overexposures.

Night shooting

At night, which also did not come as a surprise, the quality of the shooting dropped noticeably. Unfortunately, the cameras of almost everyone behave in this way. Samsung models, except perhaps for the S line. In a poorly lit room or on the street in the evening and at night, the C9 Pro will not be able to please its owner with clear, bright and saturated images. With a lack of light, the camera starts to produce noise, the level of detail drops and the focusing time increases. The picture becomes less attractive, dull, blurry in places. To achieve any decent result with the phone, you have to tinker. For example, take not one, but a couple of dozen test shots, or take the most stable position, which would reduce the likelihood of camera shake to zero. This situation would be a little easier if the developers prudently added the optical stabilization function to the phone. However, the C9 Pro lacks this feature, so at night its owners will have to work hard to get a good shot.

Shooting in a well-lit room turns out to be good, but far from ideal The colors are no longer so saturated, and the image is not so clear The phone is equipped with two types of flash - with cold light and warm light

Front-camera

As already mentioned, the front camera of the C9 Pro is not inferior to the main camera. Its resolution is also 16 megapixels. The camera is equipped with a flash, which is a soft backlight of the phone screen. Among other things, the front camera has a beauty mod - a mode that will remove flaws and make your selfies even more beautiful.

Can a cat be even more beautiful than he is? Yes, with the Galaxy C9 Pro beauty mod it will become simply irresistible

Filming

The video resolution reaches 4K UHD quality (3840 x 2160) with a frame rate of 30 fps. The quality of the video recording is quite high both in the daytime and at night. The only drawback is poor electronic stabilization, which gives the impression of its complete absence. The rest of the video is satisfactory.

Enriched the ranks of his mobile devices the Galaxy C5 and C7. They open a completely new line of smartphones from the Korean manufacturer. It is interesting that these devices are the first representatives of the "galactic" family, dressed in an all-metal case. This makes the models look very attractive. In terms of design, both smartphones are almost identical to each other, the differences lie in the screen diagonal and equipment.

Samsung Galaxy C5

This device can be confidently called a solid average, in terms of the technical component it is close to sub-flags. Compared to other models in this price category, the device has got rather compact dimensions - 145.9 × 72 × 6.7 mm. It weighs 143 grams. The case is available in four colors - black, rose gold, gold and silver. The screen is endowed with a size of 5.2 inches and a Full HD format, it is made on the basis of a SuperAMOLED matrix. Its pixel density is 424 ppi.

The Galaxy C5 is powered by Qualcomm's budget Snapdragon 617 Octa-Core 1.5GHz chipset (Cortex-A53). In conjunction with it operates the graphics core Adreno 405. But the model is very pleased with the stock of "RAM", because there is a 4-gigabyte module. On store shelves there will be two versions, differing in storage capacity. In one case, 32 GB of flash space is allocated, and in the other, 64 GB. Memory is increased by microSD cards up to 128 GB. 4G LTE frequencies are supported. Communication modules - Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi Dual-Band, GLONASS, GPS and NFC for using the service Samsung Pay... At the bottom there is a microUSB v2.0 port for connecting a cable, a 3.5 mm audio output, a main speaker grill and a microphone. Only an additional microphone is placed on the upper edge. The right edge contains a lock button, as well as a combined tray for microSIM and memory card, while on the left is only the volume control, which consists of two separate buttons. The back cover is decorated with plastic inserts. To unlock the device, you can use the fingerprint scanner embedded in the mechanical Home key under the display.

The front and rear cameras are equipped with optics with the same aperture - f / 1.9. The front camera's resolution does not exceed 8 megapixels, and the main module has a 16-megapixel sensor. There is also a dual LED backlight at the back. The rear camera is capable of recording video at 1080p. The battery life of the gadget depends on the 2600 mAh battery. There is a function of fast charging of the built-in battery, which is facilitated by Qualcomm 3.0 technology. The functions of the "operating system" are performed by the Android 6.0.1 platform. The fresh middle peasant from Samsung will be in the communication salons from 17 June. So far, it has been launched only in China, but a little later, most likely, Russian consumers will be able to purchase it for about 22,100 rubles for the younger version and for 24,100 rubles for the older one.

Samsung Galaxy C7

As already mentioned, outwardly, both smartphones look like two drops of water. All controls and other details in the Galaxy C7 are also in the same places as in the younger "brother". However, this device in its armament has a slightly more productive technical component and a larger diagonal display. The "heart" of this phablet is the 8-core Snapdragon 625 chip at 2 GHz (Cortex-A53), the Adreno 506 graphics subsystem is installed. The novelty is noticeably larger, holding it in one hand is not as comfortable as a 5.2-inch device. The smartphone has got a 5.7-inch screen, the resolution has not changed - 1920 × 1080 pixels. The pixel density is 386 ppi. The difference also lies in the battery capacity, here it has a capacity of 3300 mAh. The proportions of the device are 156.6 × 77.2 × 6.7 mm, the weight is 165 grams. The cases are painted in the following shades: gray, gold, silver and rose gold. As in the case of the Galaxy C5, the phablet is divided into two versions with 64 and 32 GB of memory for storing data, which will cost 28,100 and 26,100 rubles, respectively.

Samsung's lineup has never been modest. The company produces devices of all price categories and regularly expands the line of smartphones. In May 2016, an ultra-thin clone of the Meizu M3 Note was released in a thin metal case, the Samsung Galaxy C5. This is a middle-class fashion device equipped with modern hardware. It starts at $ 330 for the 32GB version and $ 370 for the 64GB version.

Samsung Galaxy C5 besides thin case, is also distinguished by an 8 MP selfie camera with good aperture, a SuperAMOLED screen with FullHD resolution. Whether it is worth buying it - our review will help determine.

In terms of Galaxy characteristics C5 corresponds to the middle class. The Chinese put such hardware into cheaper devices, but as for Samsung, the filling is quite sane.

Design, body materials, dimensions and weight

The smartphone is made in a typical design for 2016, which is found everywhere. Because of this, the device looks like some kind of Meizu, the design of which, in turn, is borrowed from the iPhone 6. But Samsung differs in that its body has a smaller thickness - only 6.7 mm. The dimensions of the smartphone are 146x72 mm and it weighs 143 grams. The device is assembled well, there are no squeaks, but when you put it in your pocket, at first you sometimes have a fear that due to the small thickness of the Galaxy C5 it may bend.

The front panel contains, in addition to the screen, a home button with a finger scanner, a front camera lens, a speaker and sensors. If it were not for the Samsung inscription - the front of the device can easily be confused with a model from another manufacturer (the same Meizu M3 Note).

The backrest is made of aluminum, below and above it there are strips of plastic, about 1-2 mm thick. Another strip leads to the camera lens: such a reference to HTC models. The camera lens is framed by a chrome frame and protrudes slightly. Near the camera on the right - a double flash, below - the manufacturer's logo.

The sides of the smartphone have a standard configuration of elements for Samsung. The power button is on the right. On the right, below the power button, there is a slot for cards that can be opened with a hairpin.

The volume swing is moved to the left.
The upper end is empty, the lower one contains the MicroUSB port, speaker and headset jack.

CPU

The processor of the smartphone is an eight-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617. It operates at a frequency of 1.5 GHz, the Adreno 405 accelerator is responsible for the graphics. Why they did not use the same Exynos that is installed in the Galaxy J7 is a big question. As a result, the chipset is not impressive in terms of energy efficiency. Although in terms of performance, it is sufficient for everyday tasks. The chip also copes well with games at medium settings. The AnTuTu test result is about 40 thousand points.

Memory

The smartphone was not offended by the RAM: the Samsung Galaxy C5 contains 4 GB of LPDDR3 memory. At the start, the system takes up just over 1.5 GB, the rest of the space is available for games and applications. There is really a lot of RAM (and even for a modest eight-core), so you don't have to worry about program crashes.

The built-in memory of the smartphone is 32 or 64 GB, of which about 25 or 55 are available, respectively. There is a slot for a memory card, but it is combined with a second SIM card slot.

Battery

Capacity Galaxy battery The C5 is 2600mAh, which isn't a lot, but forgivable given the slim body. The device is not particularly happy with its autonomy, but there is no reason for frustration: it can withstand a day of moderate use. Games drain the battery in 3-4 hours, watching movies or reading websites takes about 6-7 hours. The complete charger replenishes the capacity up to 100% in just over 2 hours.

Cameras

The Samsung Galaxy C5 has an S5K3P3 camera module that has a resolution of 16 MP. It is notable for being the world's first matrix with 1 micron pixels (Samsung marketers presented this as a plus, in the form of a decrease in thickness, but we know that). The camera differs from the same matrix in Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro in that it has improved optics, with an aperture of f / 1.9. Therefore, although there is an improvement in light transmission against the background of the aforementioned Xiaomi, it does not greatly save the situation in the evening. It is not difficult to get a bright and clear picture during the day, but in the evening there is a lot of noise.

The front camera has a resolution of 8 MP, its aperture is f / 1.9. It's good for selfies, but nothing more. The smartphone records video in 1080p, with a frame rate of 30 FPS.

Screen

The smartphone is equipped with a 5.2-inch SuperAMOLED screen with FullHD resolution. It is very bright (up to 625 nits on a white background), crisp, the PenTile matrix is completely invisible to the naked eye. Color rendition is normal, shades may seem a little oversaturated, but these are not acidic tones that cut the eyes. There are no complaints about the viewing angles either. The screen is covered with tempered glass with a normal oleophobic coating.

Communications

The smartphone has two SIM card slots, but the second is combined with a memory card slot. The smartphone supports GSM, 3G and 4G LTE networks. Devices officially imported into European countries work without problems with local networks, but pipes ordered from China may have problems with the notorious 20th band (800 MHz), which is simply not available in China.

Wi-Fi works at 2.4 and 5 GHz, but it does not support high-speed mode "ac" (chipset limitations). Bluetooth belongs to generation 4.2, the navigator works with GPS and GLONASS satellites. Traditionally for Samsung, there is an NFC module on board.

Sound

The sound of the Samsung Galaxy C5 cannot be called very loud, but the speaker at the bottom allows you not to miss the incoming one by accidentally closing it. The sound purity is decent, but the bass is frankly lacking, the sound is sharp. All this is due to the very thin housing, which does not allow a large loudspeaker to be built in. In headphones, the sound is much richer and richer, you can listen to music for a long time. There is an FM radio on board.

Operating system

The Samsung Galaxy C5 runs on Android 6, the most up-to-date OS at the time the smartphone was released. The system interface has been changed to Samsung's proprietary shell, but this is no longer the gluttonous TouchWiz that a couple of years ago. The brakes when navigating through the built-in functions are virtually eliminated, aided by the large amount of RAM.

Features of Samsung Galaxy C5

The main feature of the smartphone is the small thickness of the case, but it is not the thinnest in the lineup of the Korean company (this title belongs to the 2015 A8 model).

Pros and cons of Samsung Galaxy C5

  • slim body;
  • good screen;
  • large amount of RAM.

Disadvantages:

  • not the most energy efficient processor;
  • the camera shoots rather weakly when there is a lack of light;
  • non-unique design.

Who is the smartphone for

Samsung Galaxy C5 is suitable for users who do not care about the advanced component in the hardware, but the thickness of the device and its dimensions are important. For a 5.2 "screen, the smartphone is balanced and compact, its thickness will please many. The device will not suit those who are already fed up with the same type of aluminum design of the backs, as well as connoisseurs of autonomy. Fans of photography in the evening will not be delighted with the camera, for them the device is from the series A (A5 or A7) will be preferable.Even the more budgetary J7 takes pictures better with a lack of light.

Our Review Samsung Galaxy C5

Samsung Galaxy C5 is a slim, pretty smartphone. If it were not for the faceless design with many boring stripes on the back, it could even be called stylish, but now all showcases are packed with such “stylish”. In such conditions, it is not easy to understand what is worse: the same type, but recognizable "remnants" (which left the assembly lines of Samsung 2-3 years ago), or the absence of a corporate identity.

However, this is nitpicking: since the iPhone is considered beautiful, then the Samsung Galaxy C5 should be beautiful to the same extent. The review did not reveal any flaws in the device, you can objectively scold it only for not the fastest camera. Snapdragon 615 does not look backward for this price category, it is enough. However, against the background of Snapdragon 625 (which is 1.5 times more economical and just as efficient), installed in a little more dear Galaxy C7 - it doesn't seem like the best solution.
