After all the rumors, leaks, teasers, hints and expectations, we were shown not just Samsung Galaxy S6, and two flagship smartphones at once, which continued the popular Galaxy S series. I think that many more of you not only remember perfectly, but also use the Galaxy S3 to this day. The Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 have both picked up interest in the lineup, although something went wrong last year. Fortunately, Samsung has found a balance point and the Galaxy S6 looks like a real champion, but let's compare it to last year's model.

Design

Between the two flagship models, not just a line of demarcation has already passed, but a whole abyss, since Samsung decided to change a lot of design elements. Even the tactile sensation of the Home button has become completely different, more pleasant. On the other hand, the circuit has remained the same - all the same familiar features, all the same buttons for turning on and controlling the volume. Although, there are still differences, and considerable ones. Most of the ports and connectors, or rather all of them are already located at the bottom of the case. But there is just one point that cannot be kept silent - the Galaxy S5 had a plug on the MicroUSB port due to the protection against water / dust. The Galaxy S6 has returned to the classic, that is, lack of protection by default. Now, be careful not to drop your smartphone into the water.

The most notable difference from the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the use of completely new materials. The Galaxy S6 finally gets the changes it needs - it's not a plastic S5. This is a true premium flagship with a metal frame and glass front and rear panel.

However, we have to admit that the dimensions of the smartphones have remained almost the same, although the Galaxy S6 has become more compact, retaining the 5.1-inch display. All this thanks to new body materials.

Since there were a lot of complaints about Samsung for the fact that both the design and the quality of materials leave much to be desired (to put it mildly), the necessary changes have taken place, albeit not without compromises. The Galaxy S6 no longer has a removable battery or microSD connectors. You know how often this could be useful. But now the body has become stylish, slim and comfortable.

Display

As I mentioned above, the display size remains the same - it is a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen, but the resolution has increased by ... you will see for yourself when you pick up the Samsung Galaxy S6. The difference between Full HD and Quad HD is simply fabulous, although not everyone will be able to distinguish with the naked eye. As a result, the density of points also changed - an increase from 432 to 576ppi.

As always, Super AMOLED offers us deep blacks, vibrant colors, and great viewing angles. You know, even the fact that DisplayMate calls Galaxy screen S6 is the best, although earlier this title was held by Galaxy Note 4. But wouldn't a Quad HD resolution be superfluous for a 5.1-inch screen? Some will agree, others will doubt. But let's face it, the difference between the screens is very big. Evolution, you know.

Processor, memory, performance

Samsung always releases its flagship smartphones with the best processors you can find. This applies to both the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6. Only the S5 is powered by a Snapdragon 801 or Exynos 5 Octa quad-core processor (depending on the region) with 2GB random access memory.

There was no Qualcomm processor for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and there are serious reasons, which we talked about a lot before the presentation. Eventually, new flagship runs on an eight-core 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor with 3GB of RAM. Once again, I want to say that the performance of the smartphone is fantastic, which is also worth saying thanks to the TouchWiz optimization. Among the rest of the hardware characteristics and the minimum 32GB of memory (in the absence of microSD support). However, a powerful graphics accelerator should be added to performance, which many people forget. Galaxy S6 also has a fingerprint scanner, which has been modified and made a sensor type. Simpler, better, more accurate, more efficient and faster - this is an all new scanner. By the way, if you are lacking additional protection against water / dust, then you can wait for the Galaxy S6 Active. It will appear a little later this year.

Concerning Galaxy battery S6, then it "dried up" from 2800 to 2550 mAh, when compared with the Galaxy S5. It would seem that this can become a problem, especially since it cannot be replaced at any time. But still, technology is not marking time, especially from Samsung. The battery can be charged almost instantly - 10 minutes is enough for 4 hours of use. There is also support wireless charging and it makes no difference what type it will be. Time autonomous work definitely not diminished - the productive Exynos 7420 is as energy efficient as the memory. Surely the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be able to last longer than the S5. Although we will wait for a similar test.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S5 and its 16-megapixel ISOCELL camera are known to many for fantastic colors, crisp details without noise. In general, we can only praise it, but the Galaxy S6 has appeared, albeit with a 16-megapixel module. That's just the new camera, albeit taken from the Galaxy Note 4, but it offers a lot of new features, updated functionality and better performance, of course, with better quality. The Galaxy S6's camera app is now simpler, no need to scroll through menus. Everything was simplified as much as possible for the sake of convenience. The choice of shooting mode is almost instantaneous. The Galaxy S6 also offers several new features. Double click on Home button(double tap) and the camera is ready to fire in 0.7 seconds. The main camera, by the way, received a new function called "tracking autofocus", that is, tracking autofocus - easily shoot any subject in motion without blur. In addition, the new auto mode HDR is now automatically enabled when the camera deems it necessary.

Software

Samsung Galaxy S5 arrives with Android 4.4 KitKat and Lollipop update is not available to everyone. We talked about this the day before, indicating the reasons. Of course, the smartphone has a TouchWiz shell. YES, it's good, feature-rich, interesting, but still overloaded with features that may not even always be used. There is support for numerous gestures and other proprietary "chips", but all this overloads the interface, which is why it lags.

The Samsung Galaxy S6, on the other hand, is the result of some serious bug-fixing - latest version TouchWiz, which runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, has now become much easier, many applications are missing that you can easily download from the application market. This diet turned out to be beneficial. TouchWiz has become faster, more responsive, and everyone has been waiting for this for more than one year. It's too early to judge, though, as the Galaxy S6 is still running a test version of the firmware.

Conclusion

Both Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 are already behind. It is especially a pity to part with the S4 and you will probably agree with me. But the Samsung Galaxy S6 was really what we were waiting for - the best flagship, with the best hardware, with best design(here it is subjective). It's still all that smartphone that fits into the frame Galaxy line S, but it is ahead of its time - competitors seem to be "gray". Hopefully the prices won't scare off buyers, although nearly 50 million pre-orders suggest otherwise.

For many years now, battles have not subsided on the Internet on the topic of. And thousands of Internet users, standing on opposite sides of the barricades, impose their point of view on their opponents. Some believe that Apple is nothing more than a hyped brand that sells out at inflated prices. Others defend Apple by talking about the reliability and quality of their devices.

But conversations were and will remain just conversations if they are not logically substantiated in any way. So we'll take two flagship phones and compare them in detail. Apple will be represented in September this year, and a representative from a number of Android smartphones we will supply Samsung Galaxy S5.

Housing and design solutions

If we talk about the design of the entire Galaxy line, then it practically does not change from generation to generation. Developers respect the basic canons of business logic and do not change what has been working great for many years now. The design of the ends reminds of the Galaxy Note 3, the plastic cover is pleasant to the touch - in general, nothing remarkable. The only thing worth mentioning is the plug at the bottom end, designed to protect the device from water ingress. Yes, now the smartphone can survive several hours of scuba diving.

Apple, on the other hand, has made significant changes to the phone's design. First, the concept of straight lines has been replaced by rounded edges. The device has become larger, but thinner. Secondly, the sleep mode button moved from the top of the device to the right side, which made it possible for people with a small brush to operate the phone with one hand.

As a negative point, we can note the location of the camera lens, which now protrudes about 0.7 millimeters from the plane of the rear cover. Therefore, it is recommended to purchase a leather case (cover) for the device - it will not only smooth out the resulting unevenness, but also protect the aluminum case from possible damage.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S5, without exaggeration, has one of the most technologically advanced cameras ever installed in a phone. With the new 16MP ISOCELL 1 / 2.6 sensor, you can take truly amazing pictures, and the HDR mode makes high-quality photos possible even in low light conditions.

Video recording is in Ultra HD (4K) resolution at 30 frames per second. If you shoot in standard FullHD, the frame rate will increase to 60 per second.

The new iPhone 6 Plus doesn't seem all that high tech, at least on the surface. As in the fifth model, the same 8 megapixels remain. But if you look closely, you can see how seriously Apple engineers took polishing their own technology.

The quality of the images is very good, and the autofocus mechanism is triggered almost instantly (on the Samsung Galaxy S5, the script gets it out and doesn't work). Video is shot in FullHD resolution at 60 frames per second, and if you set a lower resolution (for example, 720p), you can increase the frequency to 240 frames per second.

Battery life

The Galaxy S5 uses a 2800mAh lithium polymer battery. It is enough for 7 hours of surfing in the browser or 5 hours of playing resource-intensive mobile games. And if you are planning for a long time being away from home, you will surely like it new function phone - a configurable power saving mode that allows you to artificially limit processor performance, lower frame rates, disable GPS, and even switch the screen to monochrome (when all colors are rendered in grayscale).

The iPhone 6 Plus has also made great strides with a 3,000mAh Li-Ion battery. Comparing with the previous device in the line - iPhone 5S, you can see that the battery capacity has almost doubled. However, this is by no means a guarantee of a serious extension of the battery life.

The new screen and more powerful hardware consume much more power, which leads to a rapid drain on the battery. 5-8 hours under load and that's it - you need to put the device back on charge. If you use the phone only for its intended purpose (write SMS and make calls), then it can last for several days.

Performance

The new flagship from Samsung has a high-tech 4-core Snapdragon 801 processor with a frequency of 2.5 GHz and 2 GB of RAM. This is enough to guarantee good performance in most games and applications. For example, in the popular game Epic Citadel, when all settings are set to Ultra, the frame rate is kept around 45 per second. Of course, do not forget that testing was carried out on a "clean" device. Results on a phone that's already packed with different third party applications, may be different from the test ones.

The iPhone 6 Plus uses an Apple A8 processor with 1.4 GHz dual cores on board. The amount of RAM is equal to one gigabyte. Not impressive? Nothing wrong. All users of Apple devices have long understood that no matter what device they buy from this company, it will always work like a clock and run all applications that are declared in the list of supported ones. So, you can not bother yourself with all sorts of benchmarks and measurements. Even the system interfaces themselves began to work 15-20% faster than the previous model (iPhone 5S).

Conclusion. Which phone should you buy?

The fifth Galaxy did not bring any special innovations to the series, but it can still please Samsung fans. First of all, an excellent camera capable of recording videos in impressive resolution, and powerful hardware. In second place in the rating of user likes is the dustproof and waterproof case, which is simply necessary for such an expensive device. Next on the list is the fingerprint scanner and built-in heart rate monitor, which will be useful for fitness enthusiasts.

Reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy S5

  • Record high performance figures.
  • High-tech 16-megapixel camera and HDR.
  • Reliable protection against water and dust.
  • Display with good color rendering and excessive brightness.

Reasons not to buy a Samsung Galaxy S5

  • Short battery life under load.
  • Outdated design, which has practically not changed for several generations of devices.

The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, was able to surprise the audience. Apple has not been able to dare to enter the market of smartphones with large screens for a long time, but nevertheless it did it. For just the 5.5-inch Retina screen you can buy this phone for yourself. Yes, in all other respects, little has changed - the battery capacity has been expanded, some camera technologies have been modified, the design has been changed to fit the increased size, best processor... But it was done with all the seriousness and meticulousness for which the fans love the "apple" products.

Reasons to buy Apple iPhone 6 Plus

  • Large display with high contrast and rich colors.
  • Stylish design.
  • Easy to set up and use your phone.
  • Brand. Apple is still the # 1 brand.

Reasons not to buy an Apple iPhone 6 Plus

  • Highly slim body and a bulging camera - a necessity to purchase a cover.
  • The hardware is weaker than many competitors.

As you can see, each of the participants in the review has their own strengths and weak sides... Therefore, potential buyers will have to analyze everything written above and draw a conclusion for themselves which of the criteria are most important for them. And already on the basis of these criteria - to choose a device for purchase.

For example, if you want a stylish and easy-to-use device, your choice should fall on the iPhone 6 Plus. If you need more power and take a lot of photos - take the Galaxy. And so on, for each item.

The mobile industry has seen a real boom in recent years! Small phones with buttons have long been replaced by multimedia smartphones with the function of detecting their device in case of loss or theft. And one of the leaders in the production of such phones - Samsung (however, like other manufacturing firms) - has taken the habit of producing multivariate telephone devices. One of them is that customer reviews about him are not always unambiguous.

Major differences in GalaxyS5 and S5 Mini

If we compare the S5 and Samsung Galaxy S5 mini, the review will show the following: despite the fact that the second model inherited the main characteristics from the flagship, the biggest difference is the size of these devices. Looking at these two devices, we see absolutely identical cases, the back cover with a hole, the same colors. But it has a smaller screen by 0.6 inches.

Samsung Galaxy advantages

For some people, this phone is still a better choice than its outdated version. Many people prefer this device mainly because Samsung Galaxy S5 has only positive reviews about the size, in contrast to other modifications (display diagonal 5.1 inches).

It fits very comfortably in the palm of your hand. The device can be worn as you like. There are also no problems with placing it in trousers or handbags.

It is a compact phone with excellent performance and sufficient battery life. In addition, it is quite comfortable to use Internet services and typing on it.

Further reviewing the Samsung Galaxy S5, it should be noted that it is reliably protected from dust and water penetration: the bottom end well covers important connectors. It proved water resistance inherited from the flagship Samsung S4, showed excellent results at a depth of one meter. The device not only did not leak under water, but also continued to work successfully. The creators of the phone have achieved this result by equipping the back cover of the device with inconspicuous rubber inserts. But it is not worthwhile to conduct such experiments with the phone on your own.

The functions on the sides of the panels are also very convenient: screen unlock, light sensor, etc.

Display scanner

It is impossible not to pay due attention to the display of the device. The resolution of this large screen of 1920 x 1080 pixels is impressive.

True, the owners of the Samsung Galaxy S5 model leave not only positive reviews about the screen size due to the fact that the ppi indicator has slightly dropped.

What can we say about the clarity of the screen, if the manufacturers of the Samsung Galaxy S5 have improved the fingerprint scanner. This function works just like a bang, and the large size only added convenience to unlocking the phone. Thus, now reading can be done with one hand and on the go, with just one Houm button.

Galaxy desktop was pleasantly surprised with a new interface. With its help, it has become much more convenient to manage widgets, folders and other applications.
A separate screen also appeared, literally translated “My Journal”. It is convenient in that you can upload here not only information from any sources, but also notifications. Unlike other phone modifications, this function of the Samsung Galaxy S5 model has only enthusiastic reviews, since there is no need to constantly type the address of any site.

Energy saving and battery

The phone has a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 2800 mAh. As for the energy-saving mode, it allows you to operate the phone for almost two days, while actively using calls and Internet services. Therefore, the "Samsung Galaxy S5" reviews on this occasion have collected very comforting.

The undoubted plus in the S5 piggy bank is that there are two additional power saving modes in the settings, and a quick power button is even displayed for them. One of them is a mode in which the background work of applications is limited and only gray screen colors are turned on.

When this function is enabled, you can use your phone to the fullest, even watch a video, but it will be grayed out. Thus, the device will last for 10% of the battery for another 2 hours with active use.

The second mode is the maximum limitation of power consumption, it turns on with 15% of the battery and also activates the gray color. But this feature restricts just about everything on your phone: communications, running app lists, and all background processes. You can only call and send SMS, but with its help the phone will last the whole day.

In view of these energy-saving features, we can confidently say that such a step was an excellent solution to the problems with saving battery power for the Samsung Galaxy S5. Feedback on energy efficiency remains mixed. There is only one reason: when the battery charge remains about 10%, the “fancy” flagship turns into an ordinary mobile phone.

Camera

What about a modern phone without a camera? In this device, it is 8 megapixel with LED flash and auto focus. But there is nothing more to say here, the camera is like a camera, with good photo quality for a device.

A little bit about the performance of the Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 16GB has better performance than its smaller sibling, but the Galaxy S5 with 1.5GB of RAM and a 1.4GHz quad-core processor is hardly noticeable, especially if you need a phone. for work. That being said, you can equip your S5 with a 64GB memory card.

Communication capabilities

The Samsung Galaxy S5 includes support for Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, S Beam, Wi-Fi Direct, USB connectivity, and even IrDA. Let's consider each of these pleasures separately:

  • Bluetooth 4.0. When transferring files from your device to others, it connects to the "bluetooth" Wi-Fi technology, the creators of the phone thus achieved a file transfer speed of about 12 Mbps.

It should also be noted that Bluetooth supports a large number of profiles: Headset, Handsfree, Serial Port, Dial Up Networking, etc., and there are no problems when connecting headsets.

  • USB connection version USB 3 with a connection speed of approximately 50 Mb / s. Also, when you connect the phone with a cord to the computer, the device starts charging.

Also, as they say about the "Samsung Galaxy S5" reviews, one of the advantages is that the phone can be connected to the TV using an HDMI cable by plugging it into the USB socket on the phone.

  • Wi-Fi adheres to the 802.11 standard. Wi-Fi is also endowed with the ability to remember and automatically connect to already known networks, and also contains the ability to connect to a router with just one touch.

This phone also has additional functions, for example, a connection setup wizard, which starts working with weak or completely disappearing signals.

  • Wi-Fi Direct is essentially a protocol for replacing the Bluetooth function. To use this mode, you need to select the Wi-Fi Direct section in the Wi-Fi settings, and the phone will start looking for nearby devices. When you activate the connection with the found device, you can view and transfer the files on it.
  • S Beam - this innovative technology designed for quick transfer of large files. With its help, you can transfer a file of several GB in just a couple of minutes.
  • Infrared port - this old man is used to communicate with various household appliances and control them. It is automatically configured and works with almost any equipment that has such a function.

Features in software

There is not much to say in this section, just look at the Galaxy S5, a review of which will show that it is completely copied to software from its previous counterpart. Even the programs themselves and Android capabilities platform version 4.4.2 - an exact copy of the Samsung Galaxy S5 16Gb.

Although this topic is too hot, I'll still try to prove to you that the flagship Samsung Galaxy S5 is still better than everyone's favorite iPhone 5S. I will not be foaming at the mouth to prove something to you, I will just operate with the facts and characteristics that we know. And so, let's go ...

The Samsung Galaxy S5 does have some very interesting features, and when you start comparing them with the same or similar ones in the iPhone 5S, you know, Apple starts to grab the back ones.

With that in mind, here's a list of eight things that make the Galaxy S5 so much better than the iPhone 5S. Don't blame me ...

1. Galaxy S5 water resistance

Samsung Galaxy S5 is waterproof, Apple iPhone 5S no. If both smartphones fall into a small puddle or, for example, fall into the sink while you wash, the iPhone of course has a chance to work normally after that. But the Galaxy S5's IP67 certification instills more confidence than just hoping for the best with the iPhone 5S. Let me remind you that the Galaxy S5, according to this certification, is protected from sweat, rain, ingress of all kinds of liquids, sand and dust.

2. Camera

Camera Galaxy smartphone The S5 not only captures 16-megapixel shots (compared to the 8-megapixel in the iPhone 5S), but also has the ability to selectively focus in the foreground or background. This function will allow you to focus on what is important for you to emphasize in the photo, while blurring the background.

But that's not all! In addition to this feature with a focus on photography, the user has the ability to preview HDR images and record videos in 4K resolution!

3. Slot for memory card

For some it is important, for some it is not ... But let's face the possibilities, so to speak. Both manufacturers understand the user's need for high volume internal memory smartphone, Apple even has iPhone version 5S with 64GB of internal storage. But at the same time, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a memory card slot, which gives the user the opportunity to get 128 GB at their disposal. So, on this point, Apple was left behind ...

4. Private and kids mode

To protect your privacy from prying eyes or the hands of your children, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has two modes: Privat Mode and Kids Mode. Private mode locks your data and photos so that only you can see them. And the mode for children will help you restrict access to certain applications!

5. Battery saving mode

Almost every smartphone user is familiar with when his device turns off at the most inopportune moment, due to a discharged battery. It is for such cases, the Galaxy S5 has "Ultra Power Saving Mode", which, when the battery is low, will switch your display to monochrome and disable necessary services... Samsung representatives claim that when this function is enabled, the device can still work for up to 24 hours, with a 10% battery charge!

6. Removable battery

Unlike the Apple iPhone 5S, the Galaxy S5 has a removable battery, which allows you to replace a dead battery, replace it with a fully charged one, and continue working with the device. Also, if your battery starts to "die", which will certainly happen over time, you can simply replace it with a new one. This trick won't work in the iPhone 5S!

7. Super Amoled

It is worth mentioning the displays of both devices ... Of course, many will say that they are completely satisfied with the small display on their iPhone 5S, but I will remind you that the Galaxy S5 has a Super AMOLED display with Local Contrast Enhancement. which allows the display to automatically adapt to different weather conditions. Too much light outside? No problem, this function quickly adapts the display to better display information on the display!

8. Heart rate sensor

The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a heart rate sensor along with the S Health app and an infrared port that lets you change channels on your TV!

Of course, I agree that Apple also surprised us with the list of innovations in the iPhone 5S, but at the moment the innovation leader, I think, is Samsung!

Do you want to comment on something? I am happy to answer your questions in the comments to this post!

Samsung's next flagship, the GALAXY S5, was recently unveiled. We already know him.

And now for those who choose to save money and buy Samsung GALAXY S4 or overpay for the new Samsung GALAXY S5, we will try to highlight the main differences between the two models.

Iron

Although Samsung processor GALAXY S4 is equipped with 8 cores, but 4 are for power saving mode and 4 for "heavy" tasks and therefore GALAXY performance The S5 will be about 1.5 times larger due to the increased processor frequency.

As we can see, both devices have 2 GB of RAM, which is probably enough for all tasks :). The strange thing is that Samsung did not increase the amount of RAM. competitors will most likely equip their devices with 3 or more gigabytes of RAM, such as LG G Pro 2. This is hardly done to reduce the cost of the device, in the premium class it is not logical.

The graphics accelerator installed by the GALAXY S5 - Adreno 330 also belongs to the new generation, so the new product should be expected to perform better in 2D and 3D graphics than the GALAXY S4

Design

As you can see from the characteristics, the sizes of the devices are almost the same. The S5 weighs 15 grams more, but I think this will not be the main criterion when choosing a device.

But the degree of protection IP67 will be a very useful plus for people leading an active lifestyle, it speaks of protecting the device from dust and moisture. Namely:

  • Dust protection class 6: dust can not get into the device, full contact protection.
  • Protection against short-term immersion to a depth of 1m: during short-term immersion, water does not enter in quantities that disrupt the operation of the device. Continuous immersion operation is not expected.

Display

The displays for both devices seem to be almost the same. 2013 model only - Samsung GALAXY S4 supports glove operation.

Camera

Due to the larger number of pixels of the GALAXY S5 sensor, it allows you to take pictures with a slightly higher resolution.
When it comes to video recording, the GALAXY S4 lags behind. The S5 allows you to record videos in 4K resolution. Both devices support fast shooting.

Additional functionality

The GALAXY S5 has the following additional functions:

  • fast autofocus
  • heart rate sensor - will help determine the pulse, just put your finger
  • LTE support
  • fingerprint scanner - it makes the safe operation of the device easier and more convenient
  • power saving mode - allows you to extend the life of the phone when the battery is low

The cost

You can buy Samsung GALAXY S4 at a price of $ 550;
You can buy Samsung GALAXY S5 at a price of $ 800;

Outcome

So, summing up, we can say:

- if you want to always be ahead in terms of technology, you are going to play modern games, shoot video in 4K resolution and you definitely need a fingerprint scanner and protection from dust and moisture, then your choice is definitely Samsung GALAXY S5

- if you need a smartphone to work on the Internet, not the most difficult games, and you want to save some money, then you can buy Samsung GALAXY S4, its display and dimensions are almost the same as those of the S5, in addition, the S4 supports work with gloves
