The article talks about manual update firmware Huawei smartphones and Honor.

In my opinion, it is easier to install updates automatically, through the built-in smartphone update function. But since automatic update is not always available (as I had with CHM-U01C10B540 Android 6 for Honor 4C), then there may be no other option other than manual installation.

Where to download firmware and update files

It is best to download firmware and updates from the official Huawei support site so as not to download anything unwanted:

When selecting a file, it is important to select the correct file. The file must relate to this particular phone model, for example, Honor 4C Pro firmware cannot be installed on Honor 4C.

In addition, the file must correspond not only to the name of the model, but also to its code. For example, the smartphone model Honor 4C, officially supplied to the Russian Federation, has the model code CHM-U01, and the seemingly same Honor 4C, but sold in China and with a different hardware, has the code CHM-CL00 (see comment). Trying to install firmware into your phone from a different model or from a different region will most likely end fatally.

Therefore, for convenience, I provide links to the same official support site, but with files filtered by model. As well as direct links to the latest (on at the moment) versions. Also, for some models there are copies of files posted on Yandex.Disk, in case the Huawei download center is temporarily not working, is working slowly, or the files have been transferred somewhere. Links are current and verified at the time of publication.

How to install firmware

Backup

The first step before installing the firmware is to make a backup to save the settings and data.

You can do this on a computer as well. But it’s easier on the phone if a MicroSD card is installed, because there is a built-in Huawei Backup application, and backup copy can be saved to a memory card. It is recommended to update the app first for backup, if this has not been done previously.

You can see how the backup starts in the pictures:

I save copies to an SD card:

I select the data to save. You need to select everything that is stored in the phone’s memory. Since I already have photos, music and movies stored on my memory card, there is no point in including them in the backup copy.

The backup takes 5-15 minutes, depending on the volume:

Copying the firmware file and starting the update

I unpack the dload folder from the firmware file and copy it to the root directory of the MicroSD card. I did it through a computer, see Connecting Honor 4C to a PC. You can pull it out MicroSD card from the phone, copy the files on the computer itself. You can also do this on your phone: download the update file from the link, file manager unzip folder dload from ZIP to the root folder of the MicroSD card.

Before starting the update, I check that the battery is charged, then I launch the local update from the phone’s settings menu. The phone finds the folder with the update files, updates and reboots.

After rebooting with the settings reset, the first thing I do is enter google account, then I update the Huawei Backup application and restore settings and applications.

Problems when updating a smartphone and their solutions

Installing updates on a smartphone is a procedure tested by the manufacturer, and in most cases it occurs without problems. However, cases are different.

If the update doesn't start

Possible reasons:

The update file is for a different phone model The update file must strictly match the phone model and code.

For example,

  • Update for 4C does not work for 4 C Pro
  • Update for Honor 4C CHM-U01 does not work for Honor 4C CHM-CL00
The update file was copied to the wrong folder or has the wrong name The update file must be in the root folder dload.

Depending on the specific update, the file may be UPDATE.APP or UPDATE.ZIP

The update file is damaged To eliminate this reason, you need to copy the update file again.
Insufficient built-in or RAM on the phone Close all applications or better yet restart your phone.

If you don't have enough built-in memory, you can delete some data or applications from your phone.

You can also reset your phone, in which case all memory will be cleared. Before doing this, you need to make a backup copy.

If the update is completed, but some functions do not work or do not work correctly

If a feature of your phone is not working, you must first check the settings for that feature.

If an application doesn't work, you can try reinstalling it or resetting its settings.

If changing settings or rearranging the application does not help, next step- phone reset.

Instructions for installing official Huawei firmware

  • You must adhere to the location of the firmware in the phone - SD card, dload folder. It is desirable that the card has a capacity of less than four gigabytes;
  • It is not recommended to use the device's built-in memory;
  • The firmware file must be named UPDATE.APP;
  • During installation, the phone may reboot itself several times;
  • If the firmware archive contains several folders, then installing the files one by one is necessary.

There are two ways to flash the firmware.

First way

Firmware is a set of built-in software smartphone, tablet or other digital device necessary for its normal functioning. Huawei smartphones and tablets primarily use firmware based on operating system Android different versions, as well as the proprietary graphical shell Emotion UI.

How can I find out the current firmware version?

For clarification current version software, you need to go to Settings – About phone/About tablet – System update. The version is the three numbers after the letter B.
For example, build number V100R001C00B122 means that you have firmware version 122 installed. Any firmware with numbers greater than these is newer.

More details about firmware versions:

So, let's take a look at the firmware numbering of Huawei smartphones. For example, let's take the firmware from Huawei Ascend Mate – MT1-U06 V100R001C00B907.

As you probably guessed, MT1-U06 is the name of the device. MT1 is the main base, that is, Huawei Mate, U06 is the revision of the device. Devices come in different revisions, in this post I will not go into details of their designation, I will only say that the letter U is UMTS (regular 3G), and the letter C is CDMA versions. Devices with revision MT1-U06 are supplied to Russia.

CxxBxxxSPxx – This is the most important option in the firmware, it shows which version of the “base” the firmware is built on. Bxxx – the numerical class of the base for the SPxx firmware – Service Pack number. The higher Bxxx and SPxx, the newer firmware. (Bxxx has higher priority than SPxx). Cxx is a region of the country.

Next, let's look at the firmware version itself - V100R001C00B907. V100 and R001 are the main version and firmware revision. They change in very rare cases, when there is a big change compared to previous version firmware (for example, the transition from Android 2.x to 4.x). Even within Android versions 4.x these values usually do not change.

C00B907 - for most new devices, the value of C00 no longer changes, and in general it means binding to the region. Now the region can be determined in the “Special version” menu item – CUSTC10B907.

So, for smartphones, the Russia region (channel/ru) is CUSTC10. The binding to the region can easily be changed with a special firmware file; in some official firmware there is an update.app file in the cust folder weighing several megabytes or kilobytes, which changes the region to Russia.

B907 is the firmware version itself. I think there is no need to explain that the higher it is, the newer the firmware.

Where to download official firmware for my model?

Currently, most smartphones with original software without modified system files Firmware comes via FOTA update (Over-the-air update). If you received root rights, or the update over the air has not yet arrived to you, then you can download it yourself current version firmware from the official website and install it manually.
