WARNING!!! You replace the software (flashing) at your own peril and risk. We consider it our duty to warn you that this procedure automatically voids your warranty and can lead to failure of the player. No one (neither the authors of this site nor these instructions) except you is responsible for the actions performed described in these instructions.

So. What we need for flashing:
1. The firmware file itself.
2. Blank matrix (blank) CD-R or CD-RW
3. Computer with a drive that supports recording to CD-R (CD-RW)
4. Nero Burning Rom version no lower than 6.6.x.x. It is assumed that it is already on your computer.
5. The actual player that we will be flashing (Pioneer DV-2850/DV-380/DV-585) :)))

The firmware process consists of 2 stages:
1. Write firmware to the matrix;
2. Direct flashing;

Stage 1. Write firmware to the matrix.

1. Insert a blank CD-R(CD-RW) matrix into the drive
2. Launch the program Nero Burning Rom

3. Select the disk type on the left: " CD-ROM (ISO)"
4. On the "tab" Multisession"check the box: " No multisession"
5. Go to the tab: " ISO":

6. Data mode: " Mode 1"
7. File system: " ISO 9660 only/ISO 9660 only"
8. Name length (ISO)/File name lenght (ISO): " Max. out of 11 = 8 + 3 characters. (Level 1)/Max of 11 = 8+3 chars (Level 1)"
9. Character set (ISO): " ISO 9660 (ISO CD-ROM standard)/ISO 9660"
10. Go to the next tab: " Sticker/Label":

11. We indicate Disk name/Label IN CAPITAL LETTERS: PIONEER
12. Go to the tab: " Burn":

13. We exhibit Write method: "Disc-at-once"
14. Burn speed: 4x (6x-10x is possible, but the lower the speed, the more likely it is that the disc will be read by the player)
15. That's it Nothing We don't touch it anymore. Press the button: " New":

16. Drag the firmware into our project (it must be extracted from the archive!)
17. Press the button Burn

The process of writing the firmware to disk will begin. If Nero does not display any error messages during this process, the first stage can be considered complete. If something does happen, read the error message carefully and repeat all the steps again.

Stage 2. Player firmware

1. Turn on the TV, switch it to AV mode.
2. Turn on the player.
3. Insert our disk with the firmware into it and close the tray.
4. After a few seconds, the following will appear on the black screen in a frame:

5. Press the button " Play" And
4. The message " Upgrade"
5. After reading the disc, the tray comes out, now you can remove the disc and again WE DO NOT TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE either on the player or on the remote control
6. Within 2 minutes, the firmware is replaced, the tray closes itself, and the player restarts.
7. Firmware is completed.

Attention!!! Once again, a few main points: after pressing the “Play” button and until the player closes the tray itself and reboots, do not press any buttons on either the player or the remote control. The only thing you can do is remove the disc from the tray when it (the tray) opens on its own. Even if it seems to you that the process is taking more than 2 minutes and the player is frozen, wait a little longer. It is advisable to connect the player to an uninterruptible power supply while updating the firmware.

Modern DVD players are quite complex technical devices, their work is determined not only by the design and element base, but also by the software. As part of its ongoing efforts to improve the consumer qualities of its products, BBK Electronics may make some changes to the software of DVD players.

In IT slang, such software is usually called firmware. If the device works normally and there are no complaints, then changing the firmware does not make much sense. However, if the manufacturer has corrected errors in the previous software or added new functions, then the opportunity to update the firmware is tempting, bearing in mind that there is nothing complicated about it if you strictly follow the instructions.

There may be an update for your device software not relevant - during pre-sale preparation, DVD players are equipped with the latest software version. Compare the version number of the software presented in this section with the version number of the software installed on your device. You can find out the software version in the player's service menu: press "SETUP" - a menu will appear on the screen, section "BASIC SETTINGS PAGE", enter the combination "9210" using the number keys - the player's service menu will appear on the screen, the "Version" line displays the number of the installed software provision.

Attention! When replacing software, the device may become damaged. We strongly recommend that you carry out this procedure at a BBK service center. If for any reason you are unable to contact service center, then you can perform this procedure yourself, strictly following the instructions below.

Instructions for creating a disc with software:

  • Download the program "NERO BURNING ROM" (from the site http://www.nero.com/).
  • Install the program.
  • Download and unzip the DV925HD DVD Player software.
  • Change the file name to DV925HD.BIN
  • Attention! Do not make any changes to the software file - this will damage the player!
  • Insert a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc.
  • Run "NERO", a dialog box will appear, select "Compile a new CD" and click the "Next >" button; in the next window, select "Data CD" and click the "Next >" button; then select "Create a new data CD?", then "Next >" and "Finish".
  • The main program window will appear, divided into two parts, on the right side find the file with the software (DV925HD.BIN) and drag it with the mouse to the left, then go to the "Edit" menu and select the "Properties" section.
  • Go to the "ISO" tab and set the settings according to the figure:
  • After completing the settings, go to the "File" menu and select "Write CD". In the dialog box that appears, select the desired recording speed and click the "Burn" button.
  • After successful recording, a corresponding message will appear on the screen, click "OK", close the dialog box, the disc will be automatically ejected from the drive.

Instructions for replacing software:

During software replacement Ensure the stability of the DVD player's power supply- power outages and voltage surges can lead to failure of the player.
  1. Press the "POWER" button. The DVD player will turn on and “NO DISC” will appear on the DVD player display.
  2. Press the "OPEN/CLOSE" button. The disc tray will slide out.
  3. Place the software disc in the tray with the label facing up.
  4. Press the "OPEN/CLOSE" button. The tray will close. “LOADING” will appear on the TV screen.
  5. After a few seconds, the following message will appear on the TV screen:
    "UPGRADE FILE DETECTED
    UPGRADE?
    PRESS PLAY TO START".
    Click the "PLAY" button.
  6. At the bottom of the screen (under the line "PRESS PLAY TO START") the inscription "FILE COPYING" will appear, which after a few seconds will change to "UPGRADING".
  7. The tray will automatically eject, remove the disc from the tray and wait a while until the standard BBK screen saver appears on the TV screen ("BBK DVD VIDEO" on a blue background) and the tray closes automatically. “LOADING” will appear in the upper left corner of the screen, which after a few seconds will change to “NO DISC”. This means that the software replacement was successful and the player is ready to use.
If your DVD player fails, contact a service center to restore the device's functionality. BBK Electronics is not responsible for device failure due to the user’s fault and in this case disclaims all warranty obligations.

Addition: from the BBK forum again regarding the firmware update.

The firmware update is done like this - the file is unzipped, then this file is renamed, for example, the file name is DV718SI-1A-1031, you rename it to "DV718SI.BIN" then the parameters are set in nero
ISO - mode1, iso 9660 only, max of 11=8+3, uncheck all the boxes... transfer the file to nero and burn..... everything is ready!
(by the way, do not press anything while flashing, the disk should come out on its own, and until the BBK splash screen appears, do not touch or press anything, otherwise you will ruin the device!!!)"
+ I’ll add to this that if you have a cd-rw disk, set it to “without multisession” in the settings

Feel free to use CD-RW, you can always correct the wrong file name. If there are no errors in the settings when burning a disc in Nero, then the file DV923HD.BIN should be accepted
You can record several at once different files on disk, the player itself will find a file with a matching name.

Firmware (firmware) - This special program(microcode) or "operating system" for devices such as ( Motherboard BIOS, CD/DVD drive, ADSL modem, DVD player, mobile phone, modern TV). This microcode is stored in the device's Flash memory and can be overwritten.
Firmware ( firmware) is also called a file that contains an updated and improved version of the program for upgrading the device.
Firmware ( firmware) is also called a flasher program designed to load this file into the device’s Flash memory.
Firmware ( firmware) also refers to the process of loading the program into the device.
In software version, the firmware is usually a binary file (with the extension *.bin), less often executable file*.exe.

What advantages will we get after updating the firmware (flashing)

There are many reasons why you have to update the firmware:
– for compatibility with new software (for example, new OS);
– to improve device performance;
– to expand configuration capabilities (add new features);
– to correct errors and defects in the drive software (eliminate glitches and bugs);
– to remove binding to a region (establishing a multi-zone drive);
– to change the ID string of the drive (for example, firmware from Kiss will show the drive as Kiss, and not as Toshiba);
– for removing riplock;
-- and much more

Riplock what is it?

Riplock (riplock) is a blocking of the drive's read speed for some types of disks. Riplock was conceived as one of the methods of combating video pirates: it does not allow you to quickly copy videos (this is its main purpose). Another purpose of the riplock is to reduce the noise level when playing DVD movies.
Most firmwares remove the riplock, allowing for faster rip speeds, but this is usually only the case for pressed DVDs. Removing the riplock may make your drive noisier when playing stamped DVDs on a PC.

RPC-1 and RPC-2
There are two types of CD and DVD drives: RPC-1(Region Free) – free from regional protection (so-called multi-zone), and RPC-2(Region Protection) – with regional protection. Even RPC-1 drives sometimes require software to remove region locking in order to play DVDs.

Firmware programs (flashers) are available for both DOS and Windows.

Flashing a DVD drive from DOS (old method)
– Insert a 3.5" floppy disk into the floppy drive (see, sometimes they can still be very useful!).
– Open My computer, click right click mice Disc 3.5, from context menu select Format
– A window will open Format Disc 3.5 (A:).
– Select formatting method – Creation boot disk MS-DOS(by checking the box). Click Start – OK. This will copy the following files to the disk:
DISPLAY.SYS
EGA2.CPI
EGA3.CPI
EGA.CPI
KEYB.COM
KEYBOARD.SYS
KEYBRD2.SYS
KEYBRD3.SYS
KEYBRD4.SYS
MODE.COM
– Find the firmware for your DVD drive. You should start searching for firmware from the drive manufacturer's website. Many firmwares are posted on the website, see the links below. Original firmware is called original firmware.
– Download the firmware, unzip the zipped file (in the archive, as a rule: Readme – instructions, UPDATE.BAT – batch file to launch the flasher, v******.exe – flasher, ******.bin – firmware).
– Copy the files UPDATE.BAT, v******.exe, ******.bin to the boot floppy disk.
– Restart your PC. When rebooting, press the Delete key to enter the BIOS Setup utility.
– Install first boot device floppy drive (1st Boot Device– FLOPPY DRIVE).

– After booting the PC from the floppy disk, the system prompt A:\> will appear
– enter UPDATE.BAT (can be in lowercase letters and without the extension – update), press Enter.
– If a message appears that the update file was not found, to find the batch file on the floppy disk to run the flasher, enter dir and press Enter.
– The flasher will load (for example, the flasher for the TOSHIBA ODD-DVD SD-M1802 drive will display the following information when loading: ***Flash Program to upgrade SD-M1802...).
– You will be prompted to press any key – Press any key to continue...
– The flasher will scan the drives.
– The tray of the drive to be flashed will slide out and the following message will appear:
Over Write Flash-ROM? (Y/N):
Type Y, press Enter.
– The process of flashing the drive will begin (firmware duration on average is 1.5-2 minutes).
– If the firmware is successfully installed, the drive tray will close and a message will appear with the drive name and firmware number.
– After the system A:\> prompt, click Reset.
– When rebooting, press the Delete key to enter the BIOS Setup utility.
– Install the hard drive as the first boot device (1st Boot Device – HARD DRIVE).
– Press F10, authorize saving the changes.
– After loading operating system a message will appear that new hardware has been found - DVD drive. The OS will select drivers for it from its library. You can use the drive!

Firmware for CD and DVD drives from the operating system Windows systems
– Open the tray of the DVD drive you are flashing.
– Launch the flasher (there are universal flashers, for example, the sfdnwin_3.25.4 flasher is designed for flashing Toshiba and Samsung drives).
– In the drop-down list Drive select the desired drive.
– Click the button Download File Open.
– In the window Open indicate the location of the firmware. If this firmware is not suitable for this drive, a window will appear MESSAGE with the error message “File Open Fail (No Flash File)!! 0b 0kb 0cmd.”
– Press the button Start Download.

I even taught myself how to draw on dizkas! Yyyyy... So, what do we need for...

Flashing DVD-RW drive Optiarc-NEC.
(using the example of converting an Optiarc DVD-RW AD-5170A drive into an AD-7173A)

1. You will need a bootcode flasher, or a drive bootcode flasher. Take ,
depending on the drive model. (The order of programs and files is, of course,
not particularly important, but I write them in the order in which they will be needed.)
2. You will also need a flasher program or just a flasher. I downloaded this one, but all of them full list, depending on the operating system version.
3. Well, actually, it wouldn’t hurt to have the firmware, right? Naturally. Let's take it.
Important! On this site, most of the firmwares are “modified” by Liggy’s comrades
and Dee, either together at once, or with each of them in turn. Which one to download?
firmware: “modified” by them, or purely official - it’s up to you to decide. This is
once. And secondly, the RPC1 category contains the most tweaked
firmware (they remove either read-write speed restrictions, or
checking the region, or something else, in short, see the readme which is in
archives). Personally, I downloaded the tweaked firmware myself latest version with
removed by region check.
And then it’s just a sequence
actions, following which you can easily “teach” your drive and read
DVD-RAM disks, and drawing on disks using LabelFlash technology allowing
“sketch” the outer side of disks with a certain coating, as well as
using Disk@T2 technology, which allows you to draw on the regular side of the disk,
where the data is written (naturally, in the area where the drawing is applied,
It will no longer be possible to record anything).

ATTENTION!!! Krrrr extremely important!

1.
Before further actions It is extremely strongly recommended to disable everything
"left devices" from the cable on which the drive hangs!
2. B

do not confuse which IDE channel the screw hangs on and which one -

. In any case, after flashing, it is advisable to set everything back to the previous state.
position (and not even desirable, but very, very strictly
recommended). It must be said that you can change the transmission mode either through
standard Windows Device Manager (Start -> Run... -> devmgmt.msc), and through the BIOS. Personally, I did it through Windows.

So,
let's get started. First you need to wipe old firmware in the drive and
flash a new boot code into it (the boot code is something like
zero track on the hard drive, where information about the drive itself is stored).
So, the boot flasher writes the drive we want into the boot code
get from our source. The boot flasher you will need is strictly the one
opposite which the drive model is written! That is, if in my case it was AD-5170A, then I could change it to AD-7173A at most! By the way, I do not recommend downloading with updated boot codes version 0.08,
because on the forum people complained that there were glitches and they had to
go back Although my drive is flashed, it’s buggy: I’ve forgotten how
burn DVD. After surfing the forum a bit, I found out that initially
Before the firmware the problem was with Alcohol. He exhibited his
a “special” method of controlling the drive interface, which led to
that he didn't see the discs. Here is a link to the boot codes of version 0.06, THE ONLY THEM SHOULD BE TAKEN!

The archive will contain several *.BAT-, *.BIN- and *.EXE-files. We need to run exactly the BAT file whose name contains the model of the drive we want to get!
Those. in my case it was bfl7173A.bat. After launching the boot code of the flasher
it will display a warning (press y, then Enter), then a list
found drives in the system. Even with physically one drive in
system, the program in rare cases may produce two! This is related to
different methods of accessing the drive when some
emulators, like alcohol or daemon-tools. This is what we see after
launch:

After this, you need to enter “YES”, as in the screenshot, and wait for the process to complete:

Further
you will need to reboot. If everything went well, Windows after
download will happily inform you that a new device has been found! Installation
which she will do. However, in the so-called There is no “new device” yet
firmware. More precisely, of course it is there, only version 0.06 and
It's just a boot code. By the way, I forgot to mention,
the drive will blink the indicator throughout the entire time from
flashing the boot code until the final firmware is installed. Windows, installing “new
device" will ask you to reboot. Well, we can agree. Is it possible
and no. And immediately start flashing the drive. Let's launch the flasher. That,
which is from the 2nd point. NECWinFlash.exe. Here's what it is:

Click
the “Flash” button, give it the firmware file, listen to everything
warnings and sew. If he yells about identifiers, press
"Yes." You will have to wait about 2-5 minutes. The firmware process is

yeah, you just have to wait.

ATTENTION!

Mood: With a sense of accomplishment
I want to go on vacation!
listening: The King and the Fool - Horned

Wow, where have we gone! We want to flash the DVD! Do you need it? What if it doesn’t work out and you mess it up. Well, if it’s necessary, then we’ll sew.

First, you need to make a backup of the native firmware of your drive, or, more simply put, create a backup copy, otherwise anything can happen. If something goes wrong, you can try to put everything back. Although the resuscitation procedure is not successful in all cases, a copy of the native firmware should be available in any case.

Download for backup special utility called Binflash. We launch it, make sure that the DVD drive is selected (I have 3 of them on my PC) that we need to flash. Next, select the Dump option. In the window that appears, enter a name for our backup file. Then click on the SAVE button and wait until the copying process is completely completed. Don't forget just the file name backup copy and its location. Will it come in handy?

Before flashing the firmware, you need to download a program - flasher (flasher). There are a great many of them, it is important that the flasher 100% supports your DVD drive. Some flashers only work under DOS, others are designed to work under Windows. I would advise using Dos ones, it will be more reliable. But there is a small but, you will need a floppy, or the ability to create bootable flash drives that emulate a floppy drive. And yet, the firmware you install must match exactly your drive and its model, ID! The original firmware file is designated original firmware.

Actually the process itself.

I'm too lazy to describe the entire process of flashing the firmware from Dos. This is a long and thankless task. And not everyone has an idea of what DOS actually is, how to create a boot floppy disk, and young people have never even held a 3.5-inch floppy disk in their hands. Therefore, I will describe the most affordable way“kill” your precious drive using a flasher from Windows.

Download a universal flasher, for example, sfdnwin_3.25.4, which is intended for flashing Samsung and Toshiba DVDs. For other drives, look for comparable flashers. We launch the program, it is advisable to open the drive tray if it does not open when starting the program. In the Drive menu, select the appropriate DVD drive. Next, click Download File Open. In the “Open” window you need to indicate the location of the previously downloaded firmware ******.bin, less often ******.exe. Under the stars will be the name of the firmware for your device. What it will be like, I have no idea. If the firmware you downloaded does not match the device, the message “No Flash File”, “File Open Fail”, “0b 0kb 0cmd” will appear. And if the firmware is exactly the same, then perhaps nothing will appear, feel free to click on the “Start Download” button or just “Start” (some buttons may have different names depending on the version of the firmware). We wait for the results from a minute to two or more.

Afterword. People, don't bother with nonsense, firmware of any hardware electronic devices- the lot of specialists and professionals. For example, I “buried” two lines of memory in this way, and the memory was not cheap. Even if you use the original firmware (from the manufacturer itself), this does not give a 100% guarantee that after all your manipulations your drive will remain operational.

Before flashing something, think, do you really need it? After all, there is always another way, a safer one.
