Advanced users of modern smartphones and tablets use the numerous functions that the Android engineering menu has. It allows you to get information about the mac-address, check or configure Wi-Fi operation, Bluetooth, update camera software, speakers. Very often, using such a menu, you can improve the sound on your device and make other fine adjustments. For example, return the original settings Google account, specify the settings for blocking and shutting down the device, set the settings that allow you to create a backup copy important information... Before entering the engineering menu, you need to understand that rash actions can lead to a device malfunction. It is advisable for the user to remember what changes have been made to the system in order to return all settings to their previous state, if necessary.

How to enter the engineering menu using the standard capabilities of the device?

List functionality can be opened by typing a certain combination of characters in the device calls window. The Android engineering menu code differs depending on the brand of phone or tablet. Each manufacturer sets their own combination. Such information is usually indicated in the instructions for the phone and on the official websites. Users of modern devices usually have no difficulty finding the right code.

Below is a table of the most common combinations. It is not recommended to use them if your device does not belong to the listed brands.

The developers do not recommend executing such commands without certain knowledge and experience. But often only this method helps to quickly solve a number of problems associated with returning the device to its original state, obtaining additional information about the device. Engineering menu presented in English, which makes it understandable for most users.

Using additional programs

It is not always possible to find out a suitable combination, directly to your device. In such situations, you can install special software on your mobile device, which will allow you to open the list of functionality of your smartphone or tablet with a few clicks. It is publicly available for different Android versions and phone models.

The program for entering the Android engineering menu can be installed via a USB connection to personal computer or laptop. One of them is called Mediatek Engineer Mode. It is an EnMode.apk file that must be transferred to the device's memory and installed in the usual way. This program is suitable for devices based on the MTK processor. The user has the opportunity to download free and paid versions of the software.

In the shop Google play it is possible to download the utility Mobileuncle MTK Tools. It is designed for smartphones and tablets running on Android 2.1. and later. The description states that such a utility is also suitable exclusively for devices equipped with an MTK processor.

For owners, the Mobileuncle Tools program is suitable. There are other utilities, for example, Shortcut Master, MTK engineering menu, MTK engineering menu launch. Before installing them, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the rating of the application, reviews of other users, and also check your device for compatibility.

Setting up optimal sound by opening the engineering menu

One of the most common reasons why users are looking for information on how to enter the engineering menu is the need to fine-tune the sound. The following situations may arise:

  • Poor audibility when the speakerphone is on
  • Sudden changes in sound when incoming call while listening to audio
  • Insufficient signal volume
  • Quiet sounds during video recording
  • Quiet operation of the headset and microphone.

This is just a small list of the installed settings that can be changed through the engineering menu of the modern mobile device... Sound setting is carried out through the Audio section, which is displayed immediately after entering the menu. Then different tabs will appear on the screen, for example, Headset Mode. This tab allows you to set the audio parameters that are activated when the headset is connected. Normal Mode sets the sound to the normal state of a mobile device (without connecting headphones, speakers).

LoudSpeaker Mode tab, which are activated when the speaker is turned on. Headset LoudSpeaker Mode allows you to make settings for the active speaker mode while a headset is connected. The Speech Enhancement tab provides settings that come into play when communicating over a mobile network.

In any of the modes, you can fine tune the microphone or increase the volume (see table).

The volume of any audio parameter has seven levels - from 0 to 6. The higher the value, the louder your device will sound. We do not recommend setting the maximum settings, as this will facilitate fast. In many devices, setting the volume to the limit can result in unpleasant noises.

The engineering menu is a mechanism for fine tuning mobile devices operating on the Android platform. For developers, the list of such opportunities opens up new options when implementing applications. Of course, this menu is used not only for adjusting sound parameters. It is an essential tool to keep smartphones and tablets performing optimally. But it's best not to make changes that you're not sure about.

It is not recommended to reflash the camera once again - in case of failure, you will simply ruin it;
  • When you reset the Android system and delete all Google user data, a message will appear prompting you to confirm the reset.

How to enter the engineering menu

To get to the engineering menu, follow the steps below.

Video: how to open the engineering menu on Android

What to do if you can't enter the menu

It happens that none of the commands intended for a particular brand of devices is suitable - by this the manufacturer protects inexperienced users from not fully thought out actions. Some manufacturers, after software debugging of the smartphone, completely remove the engineering menu, and all of the above commands simply do not work. For example, this is what Samsung does. Some of the commands entered can harm both software Android and the device itself.

Often, instead of general service commands, more specific ones are triggered. If, despite all your attempts to "reach out" to the engineering menu, none of the service codes work, you need special applications.

Install the free Mobileuncle Tools application - it will differentiate between hardware and system settings... You may need to get Root access on Android. There are other applications too: EngModeMtkShortcut, BetterCut, etc.

How to save settings

To save the settings made using the Android engineering menu, you need to exit it correctly. While in any of the sections of the engineering menu, use the on-screen "Back" key either in the menu itself, or press the call cancel button or the "Back" key under the display - it is denoted as an arrow with a turn - to go to a higher level of the engineering menu.

It is not recommended to set the value of any setting and confirm it with the Set key, turn off or restart the smartphone by pressing the power button, remove the battery from the device, etc. Exiting the engineering menu may consist in pressing - sometimes with holding for a few seconds - the same "Back" key that is under the display. When you exit the engineering menu, a message will appear on the smartphone screen asking you to save the settings made - confirm it. There are tips for some of the sections of the engineering menu:

The reason why the engineering menu still does not save the settings may be the "raw" firmware. Find out which Android versions and builds are right for your device. If you have a branded smartphone with an Android version that has preinstalled programs and components from Beeline, MTS, MegaFon or Tele2 - feel free to install a custom version, for example, the well-known CyanogenMod assembly. Any earlier - or, conversely, the most recent - version of Android can do.

In some cases, it is impossible to enter the engineering menu without obtaining Root rights. The task is to make a smartphone with Android "rooted". In other words, to get the "superuser" capabilities on the smartphone, which allow you to take the smartphone under the clearest and most complete control. This is achieved in the following ways, use any of them.

  1. Install a custom (modified) version of Android on your smartphone. It already includes software component Superuser ("Superuser"), which opens access not only to the engineering menu, but also to the system folder system.
  2. Download from Android Market any of the applications that can hack Android without the help of a computer. Different programs are suitable here: Universal AndRoot, Unlock Root, z4root, Revolutionary, etc. Not all of them can help - you have to test everything until it works.
  3. You can also try Windows applications that do all the manipulations with Root access on a smartphone directly from a PC - for example, the VRoot program. You also need a USB-microUSB cable - it's impossible to hack Android on a smartphone via Wi-Fi.

After obtaining Root privileges, the smartphone is ready to activate the engineering menu using third-party Android applications.

The "fresher" the version - the more settings in the engineering menu will be in Russian. In the earliest versions of Android (1.x, 2.x), all service settings were in English. Having learned a little technical English, you can easily remember the purpose of each of the settings and, if necessary, you can change them all in a few minutes.

The availability of the engineering menu - in whole or in part - is decided not by the Android version, but by the brand and model of the smartphone. Try different combinations and programs, but don't get too carried away.

In case of inept actions or forgetfulness of the entered codes, there is a risk of turning the smartphone into a lifeless device, and only in the service center will they be able to restore it. And since in the case of "rooting" the device, you automatically void the warranty.

The Android engineering menu is one of most useful tools"Advanced" user, preventing him from wasting the hardware resource of his device and the resource of cellular and wireless networks wasted. And it doesn't matter what version of Android you have - 2.2, 4.2.2, 4.4.2 KitKat, 5.1, 6.0 or another - the engineering menu codes are determined only by the manufacturer. By completely subordinating your smartphone or tablet to yourself, you will deprive it of the opportunity to "live its own life" not according to your schedule, but according to the script of the manufacturer itself, cellular operators and other intermediary companies involved in one way or another in the operation of mobile technology in cellular networks. This is the shortest path to professionalism.

Users of mobile devices often confuse the Android engineering menu with the developers menu, although the vast majority of users do not know anything and do not even know about its existence.

But those who do not pursue new products and do not buy smartphones / tablets at the appearance of each new version Android also dream of expanding the capabilities of their device.

In order to solve the problem, you can go in several ways:

  • get superuser privileges (root-rights);
  • install several applications that add new features and provide access to features hidden from the user's eyes;
  • use the developer menu (mainly for a comprehensive check and testing of the device);
  • go to the internal system menu (engineering)

Let's talk about the purpose, capabilities of the latter, having previously learned how you can get into it on various gadgets, firmware and editions of the mobile OS.

How to enter

The most common call option on an Android device is to enter the combination "* # * # 3646633 # * # *".

Attention! There are a couple of nuances here:

  • firstly, after entering the combination, you do not need to press the call button, a couple of seconds after entering the last asterisk symbol, the required interface will appear on the smartphone screen;
  • the method is applicable to most, but not all devices and firmware versions, especially to Chinese devices;
  • appearance and functions provided on different devices may differ (number of categories, names, differences in versions, etc.).

On other models, try entering *#*#4636#*#* or *#15963#* ... The combinations for mobile devices from the most popular manufacturers are shown in the table below.

Tab. 1 - Codes for calling Engineer Mode on devices of different developers

If you can't call

It is very rare, but it may be that none of the above combinations led to the call of the required window. In this case, download the Mobileuncle MTK Tools application (removed from the Play Market).

It works similarly to the methods described above, with the difference that it sends commands for entering codes to the mobile operating system automatically, determining its version and model of the gadget after calling the “Engineer Mode” command.

Before using the program, it is strongly recommended to create a backup of the firmware, it is not for nothing that it has been removed from the application store - many dozens of users “killed” the firmware of their devices due to inept and careless handling of the software. In addition to calling options, the program allows you to:

  • free up permanent and random access memory;
  • restart recovery;
  • manage autostart;
  • backup, restore and edit IMEI;
  • display detailed information about the hardware of the smartphone.

To gain access to all the features of Mobileuncle MTK Tools, as well as the options, you should acquire root rights for your mobile device.

Extended interface composition

Engineer Mode for the user is presented in the form of a multi-tab window, where certain kinds of functions are collected on each of the tabs.

Telephony

The first tab contains functions to perform general setting phone: testing the network and obtaining information about the network technologies used, changing the GPRS parameters, configuring the camera and a lot of sub-items that are incomprehensible to a beginner.

Connectivity

Responsible for changing parameters and displaying information about ports for communication:

  • Bluetooth;
  • Wi-Fi module;
  • FM receiver if available.

You can request comprehensive information about each module, test its operation, change the configuration and browse through the logs.

Hardware Testing

The title of the section indicates that there are tools for working with hardware: testing it, extracting any information about hardware components, changing their modes of operation.

On Android, it supports more than a dozen audio playback modes for various conditions (games, calls, alarms).

As for the camera, a huge range of parameters are available here, which include changing the preview of clips and specifying the default video frame rate and many other items.

To check the stability and performance of the CPU, you can run a CPU stress test through it.

Changing its voltage and operating frequency in order to overclock or save the battery should be extremely careful and aware of the possible risks.

The processor has an option to put it into sleep mode when certain conditions as well as turning off the display.

Also, Engineer Mode contains a huge variety of items for retrieving information and debugging the operation of the processor, touch display, random access memory, sensors.

There are functions for stopping removable flash memory and changing the operating mode of the USB port.

Location

For those who like to use the GPS capabilities, who sometimes lack its settings, an abundance of items is available in this tab.

Return to original settings

It has never happened to anyone that the thirst for experimentation led to small disasters.

If something went wrong during use, everything can be returned back, especially if backup copy the firmware was done.

Even if you haven't got one, you shouldn't lose heart, we will reset the device to the factory options and that's it.

  1. The first and the most reliable way- rollback of the system state to the reserved one.
  2. Reset firmware via recovery (BackUp and Wipe).
  3. Download Mobile Uncle, call "Restart to Recovery mode" and click on the item "BackUp"

The engineering menu is a truly indispensable tool for fine-tuning a smartphone / tablet, allowing not only to take full control of your gadget, but also, sometimes, to return one of the non-working functions. However, careless use can lead to problems.

Buying a new smartphone or tablet is a real treat for many. Each owner expects that the gadget will please for many years with its reliable operation and the absence of any problems. Moreover, regardless of who the assembler is and what control system is installed.

However, as often happens, modern mobile devices can hardly be called ideal, since after a while after the start of use, moments are revealed that the owner wants to fix, in one way or another, modifying the software part of his mobile assistant to the ideal. Of course, in my understanding. One of the available tools is the Android engineering menu.

Secret settings everyone knows about

At the final stage of configuring the software component of the gadget, running under the control of the system from "Google", the developers use the so-called engineering menu "Android". a special program that allows you to make adjustments to the operation of the device, perform technological tests, view information from sensors. Since thoughtless use of this tool can lead to unpredictable results, most often access to it is hidden from users. However, in fact, the secret is already known to everyone - to learn how to call the mentioned menu, it is enough to devote just a few minutes to search for recommendations.

Several important points

Nevertheless, not all mobile devices can enter the Android engineering menu. In order to take advantage of its capabilities, you need to make sure that the gadget meets certain requirements.

Firstly, CPU must be necessarily produced by MediaTek (or MTK). On inexpensive Spreadtrum models, for example, the SC-6825, the popular Snapdragon from Qualcomm, various Tegra NVidia and Intel, trying to launch the Android engineering menu is useless. It is not there. It will not work even if you prudently install the appropriate application.

Secondly, various modified operating systems, for example, CyanogenMod, popular in some circles, do not allow starting the configuration program, since they were originally developed for devices with a Qualcomm processor that do not support the Android engineering menu. In addition, it is highly desirable that the operating system be original or based on a base.

Thirdly, the application (file) itself must be present among the programs, even being hidden from the standard explorer. So, some manufacturers of mobile devices, after performing the settings of the software part, simply delete the "Android" engineering menu. The description and recommendations for use in this case turn out to be useless, which is obvious.

Secret combination

You can get into the settings of the engineering menu on Android in several ways. It is impossible to say which one is better, as direct comparison is incorrect. Therefore, we will consider them one by one.

One of the most "ancient" options, which was used in the first models of smartphones and tablets, consists in the fact that the user in the dialer program (the so-called dialer) dials not the subscriber's number, but a special code of the engineering menu "Android" by analogy with checking funds on the account. If the combination is recognized and accepted, the setup application is launched. Some mobile assembly companies apply their own modified code, so standard set does not always work. For the rest, to call the menu, you should type the following order of characters without spaces - * # * # 36 46 633 # * # *. It's that simple.

A familiar way of access

Using a secret combination is not always convenient, if only because the order of the symbols is easy to forget. Also, in the case of a changed set, it is easier to use the program, and not to look for the correct order of characters. One of the most famous applications is the so-called Mobile Uncle, or MobileUncle Tools. It is free, so there are usually no problems with finding and installing. At the time of this writing current version is the official 2.9.9 or build 3.1.4, with additional support for some new processors.

In order for the program to work, the user must first obtain root rights on his gadget. There are a lot of applications for this, for example, KingRoot, SuperSu, etc. In this article we will not talk about the nuances of working with a rooted device, since this is a separate voluminous topic. After starting the application, select the third item called Engineer Mode (in both Russian and English versions), and in the window that opens - "Working with MTK". When prompted to provide root access, you must answer in the affirmative.

How to restore access to Engineer Mode

If the manufacturer of the mobile gadget has taken care of the security of the operating system by prudently removing the configuration program, then it can be reinstalled. To do this, you need to find an installer on the Web that restores EngineerMode.apk and install it.

We do not indicate the exact name due to the abundance of analog clones. For example, one of them is called "Engineering Mode". You can also just copy the missing file to the system folder located in the system \ app path. After that, you can use any method for access: both by dialing a number and by calling directly from the program interface. Note that these operations require

Features of the miracle program

Through the engineering menu, despite the ambiguous attitude of the owners of gadgets to this, it makes it possible to solve several important problems. In particular, adjust the sensitivity of the microphone, cure the "childhood disease" that manifests itself in the insufficient volume of the system speaker, reduce the battery consumption by turning off the scanning of "extra" ranges, and reduce the search time for satellites by the global positioning system receiver. Let's dwell on the above functions in more detail, since they are the most in demand.

Ring volume

It is very easy to increase the ringer volume. To do this, select the "Audio" section with a swipe to the right. A list of modes appears. LoudSpeaker Mode, Ring subsection, is responsible for the system speaker. The parameter in the first window should not be changed, but in the second you can write a higher value. Developers can initially set the indicator to 130, which is quite quiet, but 156 is already close to the limit. The maximum is 160. After editing, you need to press the Set button, located here, and reboot the device, correctly exiting the program.

Frequencies of mobile operators

To optimize the power consumption of a mobile communication device, you can disable scanning of "extra" frequencies. In our country, when working in conventional 2G / 3G networks, the standard frequencies are 900 and 1800 MHz. The other pair, 850 and 1900 MHz, is the American standard. To enable or disable it, you need to select the Band Mode item, alternately go to the settings for SIM-1 and SIM-2 and uncheck / put the desired marks. Confirmation is made by pressing the Set button.

How to improve GPS? To improve the work, you need to turn on Wi-Fi, select Location in the Android engineering menu, go to Location Based Service and open EPO. Here you need to make sure that there are checkmarks on the Enabled and Download items (if they are present). After that, you should return to YGPS and in the information section, alternately press "Full", "Cold", "Restart". Next, you need to select the "Satellites" item and wait until the answer is recorded (green dots on the map). Everything takes 2 to 5 minutes. After that, it remains to exit the menu, close the program and restart the gadget.

Summing up

The engineering menu of devices operating under control opens up opportunities for the owner of the gadget, the use of which allows you to configure the device in an optimal way. This is often the only way to delay the purchase of a new mobile assistant. This menu is contraindicated only for those who are already completely satisfied with the work of a tablet, navigator or smartphone.

Access to the engineering menu of your Android smartphone is additional features control of the gadget.

In addition, this is a real opportunity to change "Unchangeable settings", enable functions that are blocked, but set by the developer, and really improve (or spoil with inept interference) your gadget.

Engineering menu - what is it

The engineering menu and hidden settings were present in the very first phones!

This made it possible for developers to configure and test gadgets in the most unusual modes.

True, most are still designed for smartphones and tablets based on the MediaTek processor.

Do not forget that if the applications work incorrectly, you can make problems that are much larger than the problem of getting into the engineering menu, so be careful.

In addition, it is not a fact that the first application you choose will work correctly on your smartphone.

Therefore, you will most likely have to download and install several options before you find one that works for you.

What parameters are available for setting in the engineering menu

Of course, for different smartphones, the schematic design and menu functions may differ.

Therefore, once you get to this function, you may find several different options and menu items on different phones.

Therefore, for example, a device based on Qualcomm Snapdragon will have rather meager capabilities and everything will be limited only to viewing various parameters and testing them.

At the same time, the capabilities of smartphones based on MediaTek will be much wider.

At the same time, remember that these settings are hidden by the developer for a reason.

When changing them, you must be aware of what you are doing, otherwise it may end badly for your gadget.

Important! Make it a rule to never change those settings, the value of which you do not know or are not sure how it will affect the operation of the device. Otherwise, you risk ruining your mood for a long time.

Information that can be obtained from the menu

Master data available on any type of smartphone:

    Phone IMEI- personal identification (unique) number of the device.

    Phone number- sometimes not specified;

    Net- your operator;

    Roaming- whether you are in roaming;

    Network information- whether you are on a call and whether the network is turned on;

    Call forwarding- is it used on this moment;

    Network type, network index;

    Signal volume.

    Coordinates of your location.

There is also a section "about the battery", it will contain the following data:

1 condition- whether the battery is currently being charged or not.

2 Charge level- as a percentage charge / discharge.

4 Battery Type- production technology

5 Elapsed time since the last charge.

In addition to this information, the engineering menu can contain much more various useful data, depending on the type of menu provided by the developers.

Smartphone Testing with Engineering Mode Capabilities

It often happens that with all the correct visible settings, the phone does not function properly.

The speed of processes does not correspond to the declared parameters, the amount of RAM used is less than it should be, failures in the operation or installation of valid applications are detected, as well as the lack of proper functions.

And the standard user menu does not provide any way to find the cause of such problems.

The engineering menu just makes it possible to deeply test the system and the device itself for hidden malfunctions or incorrectly set parameters.

The following modes are available:

1 General (Automatic Test)- this test will test every parameter of the smartphone;

2 Report- a complete test report is displayed;

3 Testing all functional modules, processor, memory cards and SIM-cards, vibration, speakers, microphone, connectors - literally everything that the phone is stuffed with can be checked for adequate operation.

4 Screen tests- parameters such as brightness, clarity, sensitivity, reaction speed, visualization and touchscreen compliance;

5 Testing work gyroscope, cameras, accelerometer, flash, and more.

This is what the testing mode looks like.

To open it, you need to go to the appropriate section (most often "Testing" or something like that).

This is just a small fraction of what the engineering menu can provide for testing, while, as you would expect, different phones will have different testing tools and the items of the tested objects will differ.

Nevertheless, the benefits of such opportunities can hardly be overestimated.

Such testing can help to understand whether changing the settings will help in solving a particular problem, or needed.

Or there may be a problem at the level of physical breakdown, and it makes sense, for example, to replace a part.

Also, such a test will be useful when buying a used device.

Thus, you can immediately detect non-working or working with errors modules and understand whether it is worth buying a gadget or not.

Let's consider examples of using the mode.

Adjusting the audio volume (Audio)

Thanks to the engineering menu, you can change the volume settings of the external loudspeaker speaker, earphone speaker, headphone output, and, most importantly, the microphone.

However, in this case, you should also be guided by a real need, for example, if you are told that you are hard to hear (because of loud noise in the microphone, or because you do not add the volume of the sound, namely you can be heard quietly, others are heard well , namely you quietly).

Then it makes sense to change the microphone settings.

Otherwise, if your microphone is working well, you risk ruining the fun of talking to you on the phone by changing the microphone setting that you yourself cannot hear.

To customize the sound, do the following:

1 Enter the menu and select the tab Hardware Testing then Audio. Select the desired mode. They are as follows:

  • Normal Mode- the sound mode of the main speaker of the phone (which is near the ear);
  • Headset Mode- headphone volume control;
  • LoudSpeaker- the volume of the external speaker - the speaker that is used during speakerphone;

2 From the list of the tab, select the settings of which device you need. Again, there are options like this:

This parameter is very difficult to configure, so it is better not to change it.

After incorrect settings, the phone may begin to hear itself, as a result of which noise, whistling or unpleasant echoes may appear.
