Step-by-step instructions for disassembling the iPad mini

Important! Before starting repair work, be sure to turn off your iPad mini!

Repairing an iPad mini usually begins by removing the touchscreen. To do this, warm up the iPad a little (you can use a hairdryer), pry up the touchscreen with a simple spatula and tilt it from the top corners below, to the side where the “Home” button is located. Be careful, because when working with cables you can damage them. They are short and require a special approach.

Unscrew the 4 screws of the matrix and move it towards the touchscreen.

Remove the 16 screws from the internal protection. The design protects the fragile matrix.

Remove 3 screws from the touchscreen protection, disconnect the touchscreen cable, remove it and the matrix.

Disconnect the battery from the surface of the motherboard. It is important to separate the battery from the device body. A spatula is used for this. When repairing your iPad mini, be very careful and careful.

We get rid of the three speaker screws, as well as the left antenna. At this stage, the antennas are disconnected.

Remove the four screws of the 8-pin connector. Remove the left speaker.

As a rule, the speakers in iPads are connected to the board with a thin adhesive tape. When repairing an iPad mini, it is very important not to damage this adhesive tape, which is very difficult to buy later.

Unscrew the 2 connector bolts. Remove the connector and remove the remaining speaker.

Remove the camera cable protection. Remove it by first disconnecting the cable.

Now disconnect the cable from the front camera. Bend the cable and disconnect the audio cable and screw.

Using a spatula, use a spatula to pick up the small plastic recess with the video camera and disconnect it.

Peel off the audio jack cable from the case, and then disconnect the volume and power button cable from the motherboard.

Remove the board from the device. Before doing this, you should warm up the iPad thoroughly, but do not overheat the device.

Unscrew the 4 bolts from the volume control button cable and the Power button. Remove the buttons by first unsticking the cable.

Fair, not overpriced and not underestimated. There should be prices on the Service website. Necessarily! without asterisks, clear and detailed, where technically possible - as accurate and concise as possible.

If spare parts are available, up to 85% of complex repairs can be completed in 1-2 days. Modular repairs require much less time. The website shows the approximate duration of any repair.

Warranty and responsibility

A guarantee must be given for any repairs. Everything is described on the website and in the documents. The guarantee is self-confidence and respect for you. Technical literacy

If you ask a question, a specialist should answer it as accurately as possible.
So that you can imagine what exactly you need.
They will try to solve the problem. In most cases, from the description you can understand what happened and how to fix the problem.

Apple has never been like the market or followed market trends. Even when it became clear that tablet models with a diagonal of less than 10 inches could be successful, the founding father and ideological mastermind of the greatest corporation, Steve Jobs, continued to declare that the potential iPad mini was a stillborn product. There is no way he will allow such a pill to be released.

Steve retired, and then, decreeing a long life, he appointed Tim Cook to replace him. Along with Tim, a new policy came to Apple, as well as a radical reshuffling of positions. And what do you think? That's right, the Cupertino team did release a mini version of the best-selling and famous tablet. But how?! This would not have been allowed under Steve! But don’t worry, it was at the moment when these events stirred up the public that correspondence between Apple employees and Jobs surfaced (of course, during the latter’s lifetime, this was not a seance), where he allegedly began to change his mind and the creation of a small iPad was not such an idea and useless.

Ah, well, since Stevie approved, then everything is OK! These letters are absolutely real. Yes. It is likely that various “wishes, predictions, covenants” from the former CEO will soon be found. However, I am not at all against such a decision, since I myself am the owner of a Minik. And, in my opinion, there is no better product on the pill market. Maybe iPad mini with Retina display. That's what we'll talk about today. This is an overview, but not an easy one. Today we will get acquainted with the insides of the new product and find out whether the developers hid anything from us.

So here we go.

With your permission, dear readers, I will torment you a little more with “near-tablet” news. It's no secret that the Minik went on sale a little later than its older brother. It's all about the high-definition display installed in the “baby”. We recently wrote that Apple is experiencing some difficulties with suppliers of IGZO screens - a large percentage of defects prevents the production of tablets in such high volumes. But now, we hope everything is fine. If only there were no glare and dead pixels on a black background of a brand new iPad mini.

By tradition, here is a description of the device:
While iPad Air in addition to the “hardware” update, it has lost a fair amount of size, its younger brother has gained some weight. Don’t rush to scold the engineers from Cupertino - they did a tremendous job, and 0.3mm will have absolutely no impact on the user experience.

What we have inside:

  • 7.9-inch LCD display manufactured by Sharp using IGZO technology. Unlike the previous generation, a matrix with a resolution of as much as 326 dpi is installed here! A real retina, friends!
  • Dual-core A7 processor, built on 64-bit architecture, as well as 1GB of RAM.
  • M7 coprocessor, which monitors the movement and position of the device in space.
  • A 5-megapixel rear camera with the ability to record Full HD video, as well as a 1.2-megapixel 720p front iSight camera.
  • 802.11n dual-channel MIMO Wi-Fi module.
  • 16,32,64 or 128GB of disk space.

The color scheme, which debuted so unsuccessfully in the iPhone 5, has changed somewhat. Now it's not just black, but space gray. Looks great.

  • Step #1:

Using special set for dismantling work from the iFixit company, we proceed to disassembly.
From the very beginning we are taken by surprise by the abundance of glue that holds the front panel together. Take a heating pad and carefully apply it to the edges of the screen. After a couple of minutes, the adhesive component will melt and, prying up the panel, lift it.

  • Step #2:

We resort to using a screwdriver and unscrew the small screws holding the touch panel. It turns out that LG is among the suppliers; the work of Sharp alone was not enough.
As usual, we find a Broadcom BCM5976 dual controller, which is used in both the iPad and iPhone new generations.

  • Step #3:

We've reached the second most important component after, of course, the screen. This is a battery. Like the iPad Air, it consists of two parts. Its capacity is 6471 mA. We saw something similar in the iPad mini 1st gen. And again we say hello to optimization!
Apple still claims up to 10 hours of battery life. But in reality the figures are much steeper.
The battery is “attached” with a whole barrel of glue!

  • Step #4:

We got to the camera. There have been no significant changes since last year, except that the rear team has learned to record video in 1080p format. The front one is completely similar. True, the software component has risen to a much higher level.

iFixit issued a very disappointing verdict - the repairability of the iPad mini 2 is 2 points out of 10. Very prosaic. Again, the ubiquitous glue spoils all the raspberries. Let's hope that this won't be a big problem for specialists.
P.S. We strongly do not recommend disassembling your devices yourself!

From within? How does it work? The first to try to answer these questions were the guys from iFixit, who, as always, managed to get hold of a new product even before the start of sales. They showed how easy the process of disassembling a mini tablet can be. Even for a beginner, it will take just a few minutes, without any risks to the device itself. In addition, the iPad mini received a low rating for the difficulty of disassembling. You just need to know some nuances...

First, warm up the front panel of the device. To do this, you can use such improvised means as, for example, a regular hair dryer or battery. Creatives from iFixit use their own development for this - the iOpener heating pad.

Now carefully lift the display and begin to open the device from the top. In the lower right corner you will come across the first obstacle - the touchpad cable.

You can't simply remove the touchpad because of this cable. It is necessary to remove the screen, but its screws are well hidden, so you should find them first. When you open the screen, you will see a solid metal plate. It is held on by 16 screws, which are not so easy to unscrew, be patient!

Once you have completed this difficult task, you will be rewarded for your patience! Now you can easily completely disassemble the device by disconnecting its parts.

Carefully remove the plate behind which the touchpad cable is located, and you will find a part of the motherboard with a Murata 339S0171 WIFI module.

Then disconnect the cable.

The last thing that continues to hold the screen with the body are two adhesive tapes. Peel them off carefully.

The first stage is over, the screen is disconnected!

Please note: the display has a separate circuit board behind the plate and adhesive tapes.

Now you can breathe a sigh of relief and move on to the battery. Use a regular plastic card to carefully peel it off the case.

The device's instructions indicate the battery's energy characteristic is 16.3 Wh, although in reality it is 16.5 - 16.9 Wh at a voltage of 3.72 - 3.78 Volts and a capacity of 4400 - 4440 milliamp-hours.

By disconnecting the cable, you can remove the touch panel. At the bottom of the mini tablet are Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas. They are attached to stereo speakers. We film them too.

There is no way you can remove the Lighting connector, because it is integral part motherboards. The main thing is not to damage this connector, otherwise it will have to be replaced with the motherboard!

Pre-unscrew the motherboard so that it can be removed.

But that's not all. It is not yet possible to remove the main board; warming up is necessary again.

After warming up, carefully pry up the board and remove it. Now you can see what the motherboard looks like from the inside.

So, you have reached the A5 processor, as well as the main “filling”. Flash memory is highlighted in orange - a 16 GB Hynix H2JTDG8UD2MBR module. Green is the Apple 338S1116 audio controller manufactured by Cirrus.

The last thing left to do is to remove the cable with the microphone, mini-jack and FaceTime camera. Pre-heat it from the back side, only then can it be removed.

Congratulations, you did it! Complex and at the same time simple system It is no coincidence that the iPad Mini disassembly according to iFixit receives only two points out of ten - the level of complexity does not require special practical skills. If you don’t want to or are afraid to disassemble the iPad Mini, then contact a specialized service.
