Huawei P20 says hello
The apple falls not far from the apple tree: upon external examination, it quickly becomes clear that the Honor 10 has adopted some of the features of the Huawei P20. But that's not too surprising: Honor is, after all, a subsidiary of Huawei. The glass body and aluminum bezel of the Honor 10 looks very elegant. For those who like it brighter, the manufacturer came up with Shimmering Green and Shimmering Blue - inspired by the lights of the northern lights, Honor reproduces interesting play of colors on the back of the case. The Honor 10 is also offered in a choice of classic black and silver variants.
Let's face it, the Honor 10 is well made - the corners are nicely rounded and the 154g weight fits well in the hand. The double camera is a little hindering; it protrudes considerably beyond the dimensions of the case, since if the device is lying on the table, it is not stable. There is no IP certification here - that is new flagship Honor is not waterproof.

The Honor 10 has a 5.84-inch 19: 9 display with a high resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels (432 ppi). Honor uses an LC display, which we liked with particularly rich colors. According to our tests, it has 136% sRGB color gamut coverage - almost on par with OLED displays. But you can not count on the perfect black display that the Huawei P20 offers. However, with a maximum brightness of almost 490 cd / m2, the Honor 10's screen remains legible even in bright sunlight.
The screen is almost bezel-less and, in line with modern trends, has a notch at the top, which is called "Notch". As a result, the display covers 80 percent of the area of the front side of the case, that is, it uses it practically without losses. In addition to several sensors, the notch houses an ear speaker and a front-facing camera with an extremely high 24-megapixel resolution. By the way, it can also be used to unlock a smartphone through the face recognition function. Alternatively, you can use a fingerprint scanner that responds accurately and quickly.
Practical: You can deactivate the Notch display if you wish. In this case, the areas to the left and right of the notch are filled with black.

Decent battery life, excellent performance
The battery has a high capacity of 3400 mAh. With it, the Honor 10 managed a solid 9 hours and 25 minutes in our demanding battery life test with the always-on display. In comparison, the Huawei P20 has a smaller battery, but it almost got to the 10 o'clock mark. For normal, everyday operation, this should not be a problem. More hardy devices, the battery life of which sometimes reaches 13 hours or more, you will find in our corresponding.
During test tests, the smartphone was charged quickly. More precisely, via the supplied USB Typ-C power supply for fast charging with a power of 22.5 watts, the battery replenished its energy reserves in 116 minutes.
The strength of the Honor 10 is its fast pace of work. The manufacturer uses the best on this moment Huawei's processor called HiSilicon Kirin 970. It's about as fast as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835. With Huawei's design like this, surfing the web can really be a pleasure: even with heavy websites and apps, we didn't notice any limitations during our benchmarks. Including in Split Screen mode, the two applications worked in parallel, maintaining speed and elasticity.
Depending on your choice, Honor 10 can be equipped with 4 GB or 6 GB random access memory and built-in storage with a capacity of 64 or 128 GB. The subsequent expansion of the internal memory, unfortunately, is not possible: although the Honor 10 has a slot for two Nano-SIM-cards, it does not have a slot for a memory card of the Micro-SD standard. In the case of the device we tested, we are talking about a 128 GB version, where approximately 115 GB remains available for free use.
Honor installs the current Android 8.1 Oreo operating system here, which works in conjunction with Huawei's EMUI 8.1 user interface.

AI camera without Leica certification
Honor 10 has dual camera located on the back of the case, but unlike the P20-series, without certification from Leica. The photo quality of this camera is not bad, although it cannot be compared with top-end devices in this category, for example, the HTC U11, especially in poor lighting conditions. The camera has two matrices: 16-megapixel color and 24-megapixel black and white. The f / 1.8 aperture provides ample light flow to the sensors. In daylight, the pictures of Honor 10 can be considered convincing, but those taken at dusk seem a little noisy. In addition, noise reduction algorithms eat up a lot of detail and structure. Hair and yarn, for example, blend into one surface.
However, this does not have to be at all: the manufacturer in Honor 10 uses the so-called "AI camera" (with artificial intelligence). AI Mode recognizes objects and scenarios, adapting camera settings to the scenes (such as nature, food, portraits) to enhance the quality of images, for example, improve the saturation of colors.
The optical image stabilizer will have to be abandoned here, and accordingly, the risk of blurring photos becomes higher. However, it is possible to take advantage of "intelligent" image stabilization at the software level. In this case, the camera detects moving objects and activates the quick capture mode to capture the scene as clearly as possible.

Good equipment
Fans of cable headphones may rejoice in the presence of the classic audio jack - nowadays something taken for granted, unfortunately, it is no longer. Alternatively, Bluetooth 4.2 is available for use. The mono speaker of the Honor 10, according to the test results, we find a little weak: the Huawei P20 plays noticeably louder. Nice bonus: Thanks to the infrared transmitter located on the upper side of the housing, you can control, for example, your home TV with your smartphone.
There is also a Dual-SIM slot on board, which allows you to use two mobile networks at the same time. At the same time, 4G, and with it Voice-over-LTE to improve the quality of communication, are available on both cards. The wireless charging function, however, will have to be forgotten. In addition, the USB Typ-C connector transmits data using the slow 2.0 standard.

Our review will focus on the comparison of Mi 8 vs Honor 10.
What's in the box?
In both devices, the set is identical: this is a charger with a USB connection cable, a clip for extracting SIM cards, instructions in Chinese. As a nice bonus, there is a silicone case from the manufacturers.
Design: opt for a glass body
Surprisingly, both models have a case made of impact-resistant glass, which is framed by a metal frame. In order to leave less fingerprints on the surface, not only the front panel, but also the back one was equipped with an oleophobic coating.
The fashionable bangs instantly catch the eye on the display. In the G8, she became a haven for front camera, infrared scanner and emitter, automatic brightness and proximity sensors, as well as a missed event LED.
The number of sensors on the monobrow of the “dozen” is more modest, since there is a selfie camera, a speaker, an event indicator light and a proximity / brightness sensor.
The infrared port is at the top, next to the auxiliary microphone. The advantage is the 3.5-mm jack, since the modification from Xiaomi does not have such a port at all, as a result of which a special adapter is included in the package.
The big difference when comparing the Mi 8 to the Honor 10 lies in the color scheme of the case. The first model is available in gold, black, white and blue. But the product from Huawei pleasantly surprises, because, in addition to black and silver colors, it boasts a gradient "shimmering green" and "shimmering blue".
We study the dimensions
When comparing the sizes, it becomes obvious that the primacy, albeit purely symbolic, remains with the "top ten", since it is slightly thinner than its rival. So, Xiaomi Mi 8 or Honor 10? Compare for yourself: 155x75x8 mm and 150x71x7.7 mm, respectively. If the dimensions differ insignificantly, then the difference in weight will be noticeable. The weight of the eighth version is 175 grams, and the competitor is almost 20 grams lighter (153 grams).
Display: quality at an incredible height
Both flagships are equipped with high-quality displays that do an excellent job with direct sunlight, clearly and contrastingly reproduce all shades of the image.
The eighth version from Xiaomi has a 6.21-inch Super AMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2248x1080 pixels. I am glad that there is a useful Always On Display function, thanks to which information about time, date and notifications is constantly displayed on the screen.
And the rival does not have such a function, which can only be regretted. And in general, in terms of display capabilities, it loses. The physical capabilities of the IPS-screen with a resolution of 2280x1080 pixels are not enough to compare with the Super AMOLED matrix.
The bezels of both smartphones are thin, almost invisible. The aspect ratio is the same - 19: 9.
Performance: who is stronger?
Both versions are equipped with the most powerful processors at the time of release, so you can play the heaviest games at maximum settings. Be sure: nothing will freeze and slow down, smoothness and stability of the system in both cases is guaranteed.
Honor 10 Premium stands out from the rest of its counterparts primarily in appearance: the Honor 10 Premium looks more expensive than it actually is. This, as well as outstanding technical characteristics, allowed the manufacturer to sell more than 1 million units in the first weekend after the presentation. Huawei has managed to achieve an optimal price-to-build ratio. In fact, the device is "stuffed" like a flagship at a very "tasty" price.

Design and ergonomics
Already from the photo of Honor 10 Premium it becomes clear why he got his nickname "handsome". The body, its design is bright, outstanding. There is a special black "bangs". It is thanks to the possibility of semantic segmentation that it becomes possible to identify objects in the frame.

The work of the neural network is significantly accelerated precisely due to the large amount of RAM. With 128GB of storage installed in the phone, there will be approximately 111GB available.

This review will often compare the View 10 to the Mate 10 Pro for good reason. Honor is part of Huawei, so they have common technologies... The main difference between smartphones is design.
The body is metal with a matte finish, the model in question was black, the antenna strips are located at the top and bottom. The Honor logo is in blue. The device has a minimalistic appearance, its appearance cannot be called luxurious.
Compared to other flagships like the Mate 10 Pro and OnePlus 5T, it's pretty faceless. The fingerprint scanner was placed on the front, on the back there are only cameras that extend beyond the body by a couple of millimeters.
Apart from this, the smartphone is comfortable to hold in the hand, largely due to its lightness. The case is only 6.97mm thick and the back surface gets dirty quickly with fingerprints, so it's better to use a case.
If you put the View 10 next to the Mate 10 Pro, you can immediately see which smartphone is more expensive. If you value looks and comfort in your hand, this difference is worth it. If that doesn't matter to you, then read on.
Performance
The View 10 is the second smartphone to feature the Huawei Kirin 970 chip and its neural computing unit. It allows local processing of data for artificial intelligence without sending it to servers on the Internet. The result is more high speed and confidentiality. The amount of RAM is 6 GB, flash memory is 128 GB.
Let's take a look at the benchmark results. AnTuTu: 176029. Geekbench 4: single-core 1925, multi-core 6773.3DMark Sling Shot Extreme: 2964.
These numbers are almost identical to those of the Mate 10 Pro. Honor does exactly the same thing as OnePlus, putting the most powerful processor in a less expensive smartphone.
After benchmarks and intense gaming, the View 10's case heats up noticeably. It's not dangerous, doesn't get in the way of your hand, and yet it's hotter than expected, hotter than the Mate 10 Pro. Despite this, the Kirin 970 uses gaming Android capabilities 8.0 is fully functional and offers smooth operation.

It is very interesting to use artificial intelligence, which understands what the camera sees - a sunny day, a green landscape or animals. In general, it is difficult to tell the difference between the quality of photos. This is not like HDR mode, which can be turned off and the differences can be compared. The same can be said for the flagship Huawei 10 Pro, which uses this technology.
The View 10 takes great photos. There are no Leica color mode settings like in the Mate 10 Pro, but the camera is unlikely to become worse because of this. Of particular note are monochrome photography, which does an excellent job of changing the mood of a scene, and a flexible bokeh effect that can be easily manipulated in the gallery after shooting. Portrait mode works on both front and rear cameras, the editing software is multifunctional so that third party applications you do not need to install.
In general, the camera here is excellent, the obtained photos can be boasted to others. The Leica camera is prominent in the Mate 10 Pro ad, but the View 10 is not far behind.
Software
The neural computing unit works not only with the camera. Artificial intelligence on smartphones accelerates Microsoft application"Translator", which is installed here initially. Also, the block allows faster processing of images and increases the speed of various actions.
It is almost impossible to understand where improvements are taking place or if they are happening at all. All that remains is to take our word for it, since the View 10 doesn't slow down under any load. We would like more developers to use the capabilities of such chips in the future, bringing improvements to third-party applications.
Honor has installed some artificial intelligence-based security mechanisms. The facial recognition system is very useful. Despite the Face Unlock name in the menu, it doesn't unlock the phone. Instead, it hides the lock screen notifications from prying eyes, showing only when the front camera sees your face. Others will see only the name of the application that issues the notification, but not the content of the notifications. This is similar to how Face ID works on the iPhone X.
The smartphone comes with Android 8.0 and the November security update from Google. On top of Android, the Huawei EMUI 8.0 shell is used. Android Oreo can be called a smooth, fast and logical system. Version 8.0 supports notification dots on application icons, Picture-in-Picture mode and a number of other innovations.
There are several pre-installed applications such as the Quik video editor and demos of several games, as well as an email client, calendar, file manager and other EMUI shell system applications. The apps are distributed across the home screen, but in the settings you can move them to the app list.
Autonomy, storage and audio
Flash memory = 128 GB, can be installed microSD card, so you will hardly be able to quickly use up disk space. The battery has a capacity of 3750 mAh and various power modes for extended standby time, including the Ultra Power mode, which should last for a week. The device should work without problems for a full day.
The bezel-less screen did not prevent the creators of this smartphone from installing the traditional 3.5 mm headphone jack, which is located on the lower edge of the case. Nearby is the USB-C connector for charging and data transfer. If used with the supplied charger, you will get a fast recharge. In half an hour, the device should be charged from 0 to 50%.
