Hello dear friends. How did you spend the weekend, or rather the holidays? Hope it's good. I personally conducted them remarkably well. My wife and I went with friends to the city of Yaroslavl. But I would like to talk about this next time. In the meantime, I have one question for you: imagine that you saw some text (on a website or a picture) and you really liked it. Have you presented? Excellent.

And then what to do if you want to use this font for yourself, for example, for Photoshop, office documents (Word, PDF, etc.) or for your website? I will show you how to determine the font of text in a picture or any site, or at least find a very similar one. Ready? Let's go then!

If you saw beautiful text on any image, then I recommend you one way to determine.

Most importantly, don't download anything from here. You better search in the proven way that I showed here.

But this I described the ideal case when a dark font is on a light background without unnecessary details. But if the picture is more saturated and there are more details on it, then it will be a little more complicated. But all the same, the service will try to find what it considers similar.

Text on picture (Cyrillic)

Unfortunately, I have not yet met any services that can recognize Cyrillic (Russian) fonts. Very sorry. One program came across font detect, but it only looks for fonts in specific folders on your computer, and not really by itself, not really.

But there is a public site where people post pictures with text, and knowledgeable people help determine what it is. As a result, in most cases, the result is positive.

Text on web pages

If you went to a site and you liked the very font of writing on the site, then it can be very easily identified using an extension in the google chrome browser. We'll see? Let's!

In general, thanks to such simple techniques, you can find the font that you need, or find at least something close and similar. In any case, this is a very tangible help and much better than if you search for everything manually. Am I correct?

The only thing is that these services are not omnipotent and may not find anything similar for you. And this can be influenced by various factors, for example, too many unnecessary objects in the picture or poorly scanned and cool-processed (stretched or with many effects) text. So try to look for more suitable images.

Well, that's where I conclude today's article. And I sincerely hope that you like it. Be sure to subscribe to my blog updates and also share the article in social networks... In addition, I recommend that you read other articles. I am sure that you will find something useful for yourself. See you. Bye Bye!

Best regards, Dmitry Kostin!

Surely many had a situation when it was necessary to identify an unknown font.

Will help solve this problem in a fairly simple and original way. You download (from your computer or by providing a link) a picture or a logo that contains the text, and the site displays a list of fonts. Files with a size of no more than 360 x 275 pixels and the following formats are suitable for uploading: GIF, JPEG, TIFF, BMP. Sometimes it may be necessary to enter the corresponding characters shown in the picture, since the system itself is not always able to accurately identify them.

For better recognition of individual characters by the system, the developers recommend adhering to the following recommendations. It should be remembered that the smaller the font, the greater the likelihood of erroneous identification of the text. The optimal size for the system is the size of a single character within 100 pixels (a larger size increases the search time for matches). Of course, referring to the limitation of the image by width, the image will contain only 3-4 characters, but this is quite enough to define similar fonts. The service successfully works with color images, but high accuracy can be achieved only on black and white images.

After loading the image, the analyzer recognizes the characters.

If you still fail to determine the font, you can send the image to the forum, where they will always help you.

There is one drawback - there is no support for Cyrillic fonts.

There is another wonderful online service by font recognition - (What Font is)

By uploading an image to this site, you can find out what font was used to write text on it. The database contains a sufficient number of Latin fonts, but there is not a lot of Cyrillic ones yet. The site also offers to download a number of fonts for free.

On the Whatfontis service, there are 3 ways to find out what the font is:

Path 1

In the first window, load a graphic image containing the inscription, press the Continue button. A window will appear to recognize your picture and a field for entering a letter that the server was able to recognize. The more letters you enter, the higher the chance of finding your desired font.

At the end at the very end of the page, there will be three search options:

  • Display only free fonts or free alternative fonts
(Show only free fonts or alternative free fonts)
  • Display only commercial fonts or commercial alternative fonts
(Show only paid fonts or alternative commercial ones)
  • Display all fonts
    (Show all fonts)

Path 2
You can not upload your picture containing the text with the desired font, but specify the web address of the picture with the font.

Path 3
Search by name. You can enter the name of the font and search for its counterparts.

I'm sure that any designer had such a moment when he saw somewhere a font that could be so useful in a project, but ... what kind of font? .. The answer to this question is hidden in the depths of your mind, or in the depth of your "ignorance" (which of course is excusable).

In this article, we'll take a look at a few resources that can help you identify your favorite font.

Of course, you can't expect these sources to give you 100 percent certainty that you will find the font you want, but what will help is for sure.

The Graphic Design Blog is a useful resource, but it can only help if you know the name of the designer or studio who created the font. The list of studios and designers is quite extensive and the search for a font is greatly simplified. But what if you see the font for the first time?

Step 2: After loading the picture, check that What The Font has correctly identified the glyphs, and only after that press "search".

In short, GLYPH is a graphic image of a sign. One character can correspond to multiple glyphs; the lowercase "a", capitalized "a", and the alternative lowercase "a" with a stroke are the same sign, but at the same time they are three different glyphs (graphemes).

On the other hand, one glyph can also correspond to a combination of several characters, for example, the ligature "ffi", being a single grapheme, corresponds to a sequence of three characters: f, f and i. So for the spell checker, suffix will be 6 characters long, and the GPU will display 4 glyphs.

I first uploaded this picture:

Great community, huge amount of resources, blogs, news related to typographic culture. There is even a typography Wiki.

In the article I will answer the question of how to find out the font on the site. More than once I saw interesting spellings on blogs, and I will show below how to define the style and description.

The right way to find out the font on the site

I wanted to write many methods on how to find out the font on the site, but brought out one and the most accurate one. I took the blog of my friend Andrey mixinvestor as an example. I advise you to use the google chrome browser. We go to the desired resource and look at the instructions.

  1. We circle what text is needed for verification.
  2. Right-click and "View Code".
  3. The html lines confirming correctness.
  4. The name and spelling, you can also see what size, in the example 41 px.

Then you can register it, or find it online. To find this style of writing for download, enter google or yandex in the search results.

  • We go to the result from the issue.
  • Download the original.

Video definition: what font is used on the resource and how to define it

The video shows a secret way to define and use a custom extension for google chrome.

Has this situation happened to you: you notice a beautiful font, and you want to take it to your collection, but it appears in the picture, and not in the printed text? That is, you cannot see in the source code what kind of style was used for design, and you cannot determine by eye. It would seem that there is no way out. In fact, there are a lot of services on the Internet that can determine the font from the picture online. We'll tell you two.

Let's try to determine the font from this picture on the two most famous sites:

WhatFontIs

This free resource is entirely in English. So the base of Latin fonts is quite wide there. But with the Russians, it's tense. For those who do not know English, we have prepared a small instruction on how to use the service.

So, to use WhatFontIs to find a font from a picture, save the image with the style you like, or take a screenshot of the page and cut out the desired fragment. Make sure that the picture is in jpg, png or gif format and does not exceed 1.8 mb. Now follow the instructions.

Advice: instead of uploading a picture, you can insert a link to it in the bottom field.

If the service was unable to detect the font, don't despair. Post a picture on the site's forum, where local gurus will surely help you figure it out.

WhatTheFont

Another English-speaking service to determine the font from the picture. Trying to find Cyrillic styles here is a waste of time. WhatTheFont doesn’t have them in the database.

WhatTheFont mobile application

Few people know, but the service WhatTheFont there is an application for determining the font from the picture on gadgets from Apple. This is convenient when you caught the eye, for example, an ad in a newspaper, decorated with a beautiful font, or was impressed by a sign on the street. Just take a photo of the text and the app will do its job.

In fact, there are more than two ways to help identify a font online. For example, there are services that, instead of recognizing a font from a picture, will ask you a thousand and one questions about what the desired style looks like (http://www.identifont.com/). There are resources that can even train your eye so that you can recognize many fonts as well as a machine (http://ft.vremenno.net/en/). but WhatTheFont and WhatFontIs- perhaps the most convenient and popular sites for this purpose.
