Using the program WinRAR... Let's now look at two more features of this program - archiving a file in parts, and creating a self-extracting archive.

Archiving a file in parts

If the file is large and it is impossible to transfer it due to the limitations of the size of mail or file hosting, then you can split it into parts, more precisely, into several archives, and these archives are already transferred.

In the WinRAR program, you can archive in parts. Let's get down to it now.

To archive files, you need an installed WinRAR archiver. If you do not have it, then you can download the archiver from the link at the beginning of the article.

In the window My computer , or in the program Total commander, right-click on the file that you want to archive in parts, and in the context menu select the item WinRAR - Add to archive ... If you have an English version of the archiver, then you need to select Add to archive .

A window appears Archive name and parameters in which you open the tab General if not already open by default. In the English version of the archiver, this tab is called General .

At the bottom, find a window under the item. In the English version, the inscription will be Split to volumes, bytes .

In this window, enter the size of the parts into which your file will be split.

For example, if you have a 6GB file, and you need to split it into archives of 600 MB each, that is, into 10 archives, then enter the number 629145600 in the window, since 600 MB is equal to exactly this number of bytes: 1 MB is equal to 1024 KB, and 1 KB is equal to 1024 bytes.

Now press the button OK... That's it, the file is zipped and will be placed in several archives. The names of these archives will be the same as the name of the source file, with the addition of endings separated by a period: .part1, .part2, .part3 etc.

You can safely transfer these archives, or keep them.

Combining them into one file is also very easy. Place all these archives in one folder, and unzip any of them. You don't need to unzip them all, just one is enough. All the parts will then be put together, and you will have a whole file.

Self-extracting archive

You've probably seen any archives, by double-clicking on which, you could automatically unzip them? No need to right-click and look for unzip items. You don't even need to have the program itself - an archiver for unpacking. Everything is inside such an archive.

Self-extracting archive has the extension exe... To extract such an archive, you double-click on it with the left mouse button, and in the window that appears, select the location where this archive will be unpacked.

If you leave the destination folder by default, the archive will be unpacked to the same folder where it is located, which is very convenient.

Now let's figure out how to create such an archive. Everything is very simple. In folder My computer , or in the program Total commander, right-click on the file or folder that you want to archive, and then select the item WinRAR - Add to archive .

Naturally, you must have WinRAR installed. Next, put a tick in front of the item Create SFX archive , and click OK .

The abbreviation SFX stands for self-extracting, and is translated from English as self-extracting .

At the end of the archiving, you receive this archive in the same folder where the source file or folder is located.

Self-extracting archive in parts

You can also archive the file in parts so that the first archive will be self-extracting. It is easy to do this by combining the method of archiving the file in parts with the method of creating a self-extracting archive.

Right-click on the file, select the item WinRAR - Add to archive , and in the window at paragraph Divide into volumes in size (in bytes) prescribe the size of the archives. And on the right side, put a checkmark in front of the item Create SFX archive ... Then click OK .

The self-extracting archive will be ready in parts.

Instructions

Open Windows Explorer by double-clicking the My Computer shortcut on your desktop or by pressing the WIN + E keyboard shortcut. Then find archive to be divided into parts, and load it into WinRAR by double-clicking the left mouse button.

Expand the section "Operations" in the menu archive ator and select the line "Convert archive". This action is assigned "hot keys" ALT + Q, you can use them as well.

Click the "Compression" button in the properties window that opens and archive It will show the General tab of the file packing procedure settings panel.

Find the words "Divide into volumes (size in)" in the lower left corner of this tab. Below it is a drop-down list containing several commonly used options for limiting sizes. parts archive a - choose the most suitable one. If this is not the case, then enter the value you need in this field. For example, to split archive for files the size of which does not exceed fifty megabytes, enter the value "50 m" (without quotes). Please note that the letter "m" must be written exactly in. The uppercase letter "M" will be interpreted by the program as "byte". A small letter "k" is used to indicate the sizes in, and a large letter "K" can be used to designate bytes.

Click the "OK" button to start the process of converting the simple archive but in a multivolume. After its completion, a set of files with the name of the source will appear in the same folder. archive a, but with the insertion of the volume sequence number before the rar expansion - part0001, part0002, etc. For times archive It does not matter which file you start the procedure from - run any of them, and WinRAR will determine the correct sequence by itself.

You can see that on many sites dedicated to multimedia, games, movies and other large files are laid out in parts - the so-called "desks" (part). This is done for the convenience of uploading to the server and downloading files to your computer. If the connection is broken, it is always more convenient to download the last part of the size of 200 MB than to download the entire file again, the volume of which can reach several gigabytes.

You will need

  • - "Total Commander" program.

Instructions

As soon as it reaches 100% and disappears, select the created folder and right-click on it. In the context menu, click on the "Create archive" item. You will see a window with the settings for the parameters of the future archive. In the lower left corner of the window, you will see a drop-down list with the volume size setting. You can choose one of the default volumes (1.31 MB, 90 MB, 700 MB, 4.3 GB) or set your own volume, after which you must click the “OK” button. An archive with files will be created and split into several identical parts, desks, with the file size you have chosen. All parts of the archive will be located in the same directory as the folder that you packed into the archive.
After completing the creation and splitting of the archives, the folder with the files will become a duplicate of the archives and can be deleted.

Sometimes you need to free up space on your computer urgently, and you want to cut a large video to disk that takes up a lot of hard disk space. However, video file sizes often exceed the size limit of a DVD or plain CD, in which case the ability to cut video files comes to your rescue. When you need the film again, you can easily glue it together. In this article, we will show you how to cut a video and then glue it together from several parts.

Instructions

If the frame does not suit you, on the panel press the keys to go to the next or previous keyframe and select the appropriate one. After finding the frame for the cut, release the Shift key.

To select the second part of the file, open the entire video again, open the "Edit" section of the menu and select "Go to ...". Specify the frame number that you recorded in the previous step and click OK.

Put the end mark of the selection on the frame that opens, and then go to the beginning of the video and put the start point of the selection there. Delete the first half of the video, and save the second half in the same way as the first in the previous step.

Launch your chosen video editor. Drag the required avi file into the program window, or select the "Open" item and in the dialog box that appears, select the required video file and double-click on it. The corresponding video track will appear on the timeline of the program.

Place the mouse cursor at the beginning of the fragment to be deleted and click on the "Cut" button. After that, place the cursor at the end of the fragment to be deleted and press the corresponding button again. Select the resulting part of the video track and press the delete key or the "Delete" button. Connect the remaining pieces together. Cut off any unnecessary pieces in the same way.

You can also get rid of unnecessary parts of the video by selecting them. Left-click on the beginning of the video fragment to be deleted and, without releasing the button, move the cursor to the end of the fragment. Some programs use a special tool called the Cutter for this purpose. If necessary, adjust the scale of the display using the wheel when highlighting. Release the mouse button to finalize the selection and press the delete key to delete it.

Save the changes made to the video file. To do this, select the menu "File" -> "Save As" (in some programs "Calculate as" or "Export"). Specify a name for the future file, use the dialog box to specify its location and click the confirm button. Wait for the end of the process of saving the video file.

Often there is a need to adjust the size of a video file or cut out some part of it. This is faced not only by video creators, but also by users who are very far from video editing. For example, when a birthday recording does not fit on a disc, or when you only need a snippet from a video. Convenient simple utilities exist especially for such cases.

Instructions

Open any browser you like and run a search engine. Request Movavi Video Suite and download a demo version of the program, ideally from the developer's official website. You can use other utilities, for example, Virtual Dub Mod or Kate's Video Cutter. Further tutorial will refer to the Movavi product. It is very user-friendly and has a very user-friendly interface. The principles of work with other programs of this type are about the same.

When you download the installation package of the program, start the installation, accept the license agreement and answer the questions of the installer. It is enough to click "Next" each time - you will successfully install this utility.

Here is the main window of the program. Click the "Video Splitter" button on the first "Video" tab to launch the tool for splitting video files, including * .avi.

In the upper right corner of the window, click the "File" button and select the one you want to cut. On the right side, select the division method: by time, by the size of fragments, into a certain number of fragments. By default, the manual control mode is selected, in which you need to mark the beginning and end of the cut fragment.

To mark the section of the video that will be cut, click the "Start Marker" button and then the "End Marker" - they look like small triangles under the video window. Then you can select the folder where the video fragment will be saved.

When you have selected all the options, click the "Cut" button to start the process. Click the "Continue" button on the reminder window that the program is paid and you are using a trial version. After a few minutes, your video file will be cut as you configured.

To split a large file, it is best to use the well-known WinRar program. It is extremely widespread, so if you split a file and sent it in multiple archives by email, you can be sure that the recipient will not have any problems connecting them into one file.

Instructions

Use WinRar to cut large file any type. As an example, we will consider the separation file and the avi format. The size of this file a is 449 mb. If you want to place it on some file exchanger, for example, on depositfiles, it will be most convenient to divide file into four to five parts. Those. so that one part does not exceed 100 mb.

Click on file u right click. In the context menu, select "Add to WinRar archive". A window will appear in which you will need to specify several parameters. Enter your name file but. Then pay attention to the item "Compression type". Select the Uncompressed option. Next, the most important thing is the item "Divide into volumes by size".

With this property you will be able to split file big size. In this case, you need to split file 449 megabytes in size for volumes not exceeding 100 megabytes. Enter the last digit in the column for this parameter. Please note that by default the program is installed - not megabytes, but. Replace it, otherwise WinRar will split your file into tens of thousands of small archives.

1. I can't download the file - "Chinese characters" are displayed!

In general, a similar situation occurs when you try to open a file for which the corresponding program is not installed on the system, for example, you open a PDF file, but the system does not have a program for viewing this format.

This situation also occurs if the system directly tries to open the archive file without unpacking, or when an archiver program, for example, WinRar, is not installed on the computer, or when the archiver is installed but not automatically invoked.

To avoid such an unpleasant situation, try to download all files as follows:

Tear or unpack the file already after saving to disk.

In this case, the file will be downloaded and not opened by the system (followed by "Chinese characters")!

2. How to unpack a .rar or .zip archive file?

To unpack an archive file in the .rar (or .zip) format, you need an archiver program, for example, WinRar, which can be easily downloaded from the official website of the program.

Follow the specified link (will open in a new window), find the Russian language (Russian) on the page that opens and click on the link that corresponds to your system (32 or 64 bit) - a window will open that will offer you either to save the installer to your computer, or immediately launch the WinRar installer - select the option you need (usually the installation is started immediately).

After installing WinRar, you can unpack the required archives!

If, when starting the program, a window appears in which you will be offered to pay for the program - just ignore this and close the window, or you can pay, but this is optional :)

After starting WinRar, go to the location where the required archive is located, select it with the mouse and click "Extract", then specify where you want to extract the files from the archive and click "OK".

3. How to unpack a multi-part archive?

If the archive consists of several parts, then you need to start the WinRar program and go to the place where all the parts of the archive are located (they must be located in one place, next to each other).

Then select the first archive with the mouse, press the key on the keyboard Shift and, without releasing it, click on the last archive. As a result, all parts of the archive will be selected. A similar effect can be achieved if you hold down the Ctrl key, but in this case you will need to click on each part of the archive (with the Shift key it is much faster).

After selecting all parts of the archive, click the "Extract" button, specify where you want to extract the files from the archive and click "OK".

Then go to the folder with the unpacked files and use them!

4. When unpacking, an error is displayed - "Unexpected end of archive"!

A similar error is issued if, when downloading an archive file, a failure or a connection break occurred and the archive was not downloaded in its entirety.

In this case, the archive must either be downloaded or downloaded again.

Try to download files not through Internet Explorer, but through rocking programs or through the same Opera - it has the ability to resume downloading files in case of any sudden failure, while in Internet Explorer there is no such opportunity - you have to download the entire file again. which is very inconvenient in most cases!

And sometimes, due to constant breaks, the file simply cannot be downloaded!

Also try to download one file at a time - the probability of failure is lower.

5. PDF document does not open!

To view PDF documents, you need to install an appropriate program, for example, Adobe Reader.

This is the English version of Adobe Reader, but if you want to have items in Russian in the menu, then look for this program in Russian on the Internet - you can easily find it using the same Yandex or Google. Look for Adobe Reader version 7 or higher!

After installing Adobe Reader, all PDFs will open!

6. The video is not displayed on the page!

If a video located on a web page does not play (sometimes instead of a video, there is just a black square) - this means that you need to install a flash player!

After installing Flash Player, the video on the page will be displayed!

7. Downloaded video does not play!

In this case, you have not installed the appropriate video codecs that allow you to display various video formats. One of the main codecs is DivX, which can be downloaded.

After installing DivX, the downloaded video should play!

If that doesn't work, download and install these codecs here.

In addition, the Internet is full of multifunctional video codecs, by installing which, video of any format will be played! You can easily find similar programs through any search engine.

Some archivers, for example WinRAR, allow you to create multivolume archives, which, for example, make it possible to download the archive in parts. If a volume is damaged, it will be necessary to re-download only this volume, and not all the archive volumes (besides, if recovery information has been added to the archive, WinRAR sometimes allows you to fix damaged or even missing volumes of a multivolume archive). Archivers that support multivolume archives allow you to specify the desired volume size, so you can create volumes that are suitable in size for removable drives or for the requirements of specific programs / sites. For example, you can create an archive with the size of volumes for the capacity of CD / DVD, or in the automatic volume sizing mode, archive directly to removable media (for example, on a flash drive), so that when space on one media runs out, archiving would continue on the other until it is created full archive. Another example of the use of multivolume archives is associated with the transfer of data over the Internet, for example, by e-mail. It often happens that a mail server allows you to attach several files to a message, but the size of each file should not exceed a certain size. In this case, a multivolume archive will come to the rescue. A multivolume archive is an archive of computer programs and data, consisting of several parts (volumes), i.e. from several separate files. But, consisting of several files, such an archive is still a single archive, simply cut into several parts. Unlike just several independent archives, there is an internal relationship between the parts of a multivolume archive, which allows archivers to work with multiple files as one archive. You can successfully unzip a multivolume archive only if you have all of its parts, and it is highly desirable that these parts are in one place (in the same folder); in the absence of at least one part, the archiver will perceive the archive as damaged (under-downloaded). The main reason for all the problems that users encounter with a multivolume archive for the first time is due to the fact that most newbies simply do not understand that they are dealing with something. something new to themselves, and it is easier for them to think that this is the most ordinary archive with which they have been able to work for a long time. And their initial confusion is very quickly replaced by indignation that for some reason something still does not work. And they start looking for the culprit ... How to distinguish a multivolume archive from several ordinary ones?
▪ in the Twirpix library - visually, by the color of the file type (extension) (Windows with default settings of the extension does not show: Control Panel -> Folder options -> View -> Hide extensions for registered file types. make file extensions visible). So, in the information message File of the RAR format (PART01) with a size of 100.00 MB, the RAR text is green, and PART01 is fuchsin (fuchsia, magenta):

▪ visually, by file name. All parts of one multivolume archive created by the archiver always have similar file names. A distinctive feature of a multivolume RAR archive is the presence of the .partNNN suffix in file names, where NNN is the sequential number of the volume. This number can be seen at the top of the information window, if you call it with the WinRAR command "Show information" on the archive volume; the number may come in handy if files with volumes are renamed for any reason and you have to restore their numbering manually;
▪ by logical reasoning. If the user explicitly indicates that he has posted parts of the archive, he needs to be trusted.
▪ by mathematical calculations. If you open the first part (.part001) of a multivolume archive in WinRAR and look at the "Information" about the archive, then "Size in archive:" will be larger than the size of this file, and will be equal to the total size of all parts (files) of the archive. Unpacking a multivolume archive :
▪ Install and configure WinRAR (so that when you right-click on the archive, the context menu that appears contains the “Extract files” or “Extract to current folder” items). If the context menu was not configured when installing the WinRAR program, then you will have to open the archive in the WinRAR program and select the "Extract to the specified folder" option in the "Commands" menu.
▪ Download separately all parts (volumes) of the archive.
▪ In the root directory of the system drive (usually drive C :) create a folder with an arbitrary short (no more than 8 characters) name containing only Latin letters (case does not matter) and numbers, for example, ARCHIV.
▪ Place all parts of the archive in this folder.
▪ Check that there is enough free space on the disk for the unpacked archive.
Unpacking an archive with a preliminary renaming of parts of the archive... If there are many volumes (more than a dozen), then I recommend that you first rename all files so that their names correspond to the template XXX.rar, where XXX is the number of the volume in the archive. Manual renaming is not so much tedious as tedious, but, believe me, "Paris is worth the Mass." After renaming the folder should contain files with the names 001.rar, 002.rar,… (or 1.rar, 2.rar,…, or 01.rar, 02.rar,…). For group renaming of files, you can use any suitable program, for example, the corresponding function of any file manager. Unpacking the first volume will automatically unpack the entire archive. If you are friends with Total Commander, then all preparatory operations will take very little time.
Unpacking the archive without first renaming the files... Start unpacking from the 1st volume using the context menu items "Extract files" or "Extract to current folder", or by opening the archive in WinRAR and selecting the "Extract to specified folder" option in the "Commands" menu. When the archiver asks for the 2nd part of the archive, it is also the 2nd volume (this is how the information message of the unpacker "Insert disk part2" should be understood), specify the desired file using the "Browse" button. Then proceed according to the instructions of the unpacker; Ignore discrepancies in file names - required by the unpacker and actual ones: only the correct order of unpacking volumes is important. The most important thing at this stage is not to mix up the volumes. For correctly named volumes, the Browse button is not required: unpacking the first volume will automatically unpack the entire archive. Keep in mind that the number of archive volumes depends on the total size of the archived files and on the packer settings and is not directly related to the number of archived files. In other words, the number of files obtained after unpacking the archive very rarely (and even then by accident) coincides with the number of archive parts. Everything will work out for you!

The maximum size of one file attached to an application on the portal is 50MB. Therefore, if you need to download a file larger than 50 MB, you need to use the WinRar or 7-Zip system archivers in order to split a large file into several parts.

To install these programs, you need to go to the official download pages using the following links:

Below is an instruction for splitting / splitting a file or folder into several archives using WinRar and 7-Zip system archivers:

1) To split a file / folder, first select it, right click on it and select "Add to archive":

In the opened window Archive name and parameters, in the tab “ General", At the bottom left we see the field "Divide into volumes, size", in which it is necessary to register the necessary values. For example, if you want to split a file into several parts, each of which should not exceed 50MB, then enter this value and on the right the size value in bytes, kilobytes, megabytes or gigabytes:

Then click on the button "OK"... As a result, you get several archives, the size of which is set within the specified size of 50MB. Also, the extension automatically specifies the numbering of parts of the archives, for example, ".part1.rar", ".part2.rar", etc .:

"Extract files"... In the window that opens, select the same folder where all parts of the archive are stored and click on the button "OK":

As a result, all zipped parts will be returned back to the original folder larger than the set 50MB.

2) You can also split / split a file or folder into multiple archives using 7-Zip. To do this, right-click on the file or folder that you want to archive, select "7-Zip- Add to Archive":

In the window Add to archive there is a field at the bottom left "Split into volumes (in bytes)", in this field we select or write the required size, in this case we split into archives of 50 MB:

Then click on the button "OK"... As a result, you get several archives, the size of which is set within the specified size of 50MB. Also, the extension automatically specifies the numbering of parts of the archives, for example, ".7z.001", ".7z.002", etc .:

And in order to correctly open the created archives, they must all be placed in one folder and the first archive must be opened. To do this, right-click on the first archive and click on the button "7-Zip - Unzip to" Folder name ""... You need to select the folder in which the parts of the archive are saved.

As a result, all zipped parts will be returned back to the original folder larger than 50MB.
