Real reviews about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7 tablet

Ilya

  • Working with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb is bliss, because... After a month of use, I’m very happy with everything and I don’t even go near the computer. In addition, I’m thinking of replacing my computer with an even more powerful and larger tablet of this series, but I still don’t have enough programs to turn the tablet into a full-fledged one personal computer. At first I bought it as an addition to my smartphone, because... The tablet supported SIM cards (in other words, I didn’t even consider SIM-less tablets). And I received not only an add-on, but a full-fledged car with the Internet, which is always with me! I have no complaints about the device at all, and the size and speed of its operation simply amazes me! True, the accessories for it are very expensive, but this is unnecessary. Therefore my rating is a solid 5.

Oleg

  • I like the tablet, but for a long time I carried it without a case in transport, but I realized that it was unreliable, and now I choose a book case. I like that you can use a memory card to download files (both using the slot and using a card reader, which can be bought at any computer store), as well as the quality of working with the Internet using Opera browser. I also think that this tablet is very fast, convenient, holds a charge for a long time (enough for almost a day), does not heat up or discharge in standby mode, is equipped with basic programs and even an archiver. True, not all computers recognize the device as a flash drive.
  • I took the purchase of the tablet seriously, because... a lot of money... I looked closely for almost a month and finally decided on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb, because... with its help, I could always have 2 active SIM cards, and also had the opportunity to constantly surf the Internet. I think that this model is the ideal combination of quality and price, weight and size, battery performance and interface. The tablet justifies itself and does not look bulky, and on the screen with its resolution you can watch any movies and constantly surf the Internet.

Sasha

  • I bought this model and have no regrets - the device itself is very cool, it’s easy to type text on it and it even fits in a jeans pocket. Various applications and tasks such as HD video, a lot of programs and GPS navigation and the device copes with them, although it heats up a little. I really don't like the camera, because... the photos turn out creepy, but this is not a minus, because... I never understood why there are cameras in phones and tablets, if they can hardly compare even with a point-and-shoot camera... The WiFi in the tablet is excellent, the connection is not interrupted, and therefore I can call the device excellent for work.

Maxim

  • If you are an illiterate person, then it will seem to you that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.7.0 P3100 8Gb has a “stainable” screen, an inconvenient keyboard in portrait mode, and it is impossible to remove standard applications, the sound of the tablet is not loud, the shell slows down, etc. But if you know at least a little about devices, you will understand that 8 GB of memory is enough for all applications and OS, the device supports memory cards - and this is a huge plus, all unused applications can be disabled, etc. I use the Galaxy Tab both as a tablet and as a phone and player, and so far there have been no complaints!

Introduction

I really like the seven-inch tablet segment. These are compact and convenient devices that fit into a small bag or even a jacket pocket. At the same time, they are lighter and cheaper than their ten-inch counterparts. The model being reviewed today is the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, a logical continuation and expansion of the line compact tablets from Samsung.

Appearance, materials, control elements

The model is similar to most other tablets from Samsung and not only them.

On the right side there is a volume rocker and a power button. They have a short, soft stroke, and these buttons are convenient to use.

Card slots are located on the left microSD memory and SIM cards (for 3G versions). Both slots are covered with plugs; they hold up well and most likely will not come loose over time.

Below you can see the connector for your own charger, through which the tablet connects to the PC. To the right and left of it are speakers covered with a mesh and a microphone hole. The speakers have an average volume, but due to their location, sometimes you involuntarily cover them with your hand (if you hold the tablet horizontally).

Place for a 3.5mm headphone jack and another microphone was found at the top.

The entire front part is occupied by a screen and a black frame; above the screen there is a front camera eye and a speaker.

The device also has a rear camera located on the back. Herself rear end The tablet is made of matte gray plastic. It is pleasant to the touch and wear-resistant, it does not leave scratches. We can only be glad that Samsung did not use its favorite gloss for the back.

By the way, a white version of the device has recently gone on sale.

There are no complaints about the assembly, unlike most budget tablets, which always creak somewhere, the assembly here is at a high level.

Screen

The tablet has a seven-inch display with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. The screen is capacitive - supports up to ten simultaneous touches.

Matrix type - PLS (Samsung's own screens designed to compete with IPS). A feature of PLS matrices is soft and calm colors, in this regard they are completely opposite to SuperAMOLED. In the sun the image fades, but remains visible. It’s comfortable to watch videos on public transport, but at maximum brightness. The clarity of the picture is inferior to competitors with IPS matrices, but not much. The screen is covered protective glass Gorilla Glass, if you do not try to scratch the tablet on purpose, then there will be no scratches on it. I liked the display; although it is inferior to its IPS competitors, it is still at a decent level. At minimum brightness it is comfortable to read in the dark, maximum brightness is suitable for public transport.

The device has a light sensor responsible for operation automatic adjustment brightness, it didn’t always set the brightness correctly for me, so I used manual adjustment, fortunately you can quickly set a comfortable level through the status bar.

Comparison Galaxy screens Tab 2 7.0 and Digma iDs10:

Dimensions

The tablet is slightly thicker than the top-end Galaxy Tab 7.7 and the thin IconBIT NetTAB Matrix and slightly heavier than them. However, in comparison with other competitors, it has similar dimensions. The model is comfortable to hold with one or two hands for a long time, your hands do not get tired at all. It is also worth noting that the tablet is very compact, it fits even in the smallest bags, this is a common plus of seven-inch models.

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0– (LxWxD) 194x122x11 mm, weight 344 grams
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7– (LxWxD) 197x133x8 mm, weight 335 grams
  • IconBIT NetTAB Matrix– (LxWxD) 188x123x10 mm, weight 308 grams
  • Huawei MediaPad – (LxWxD) 190x124x11 mm, weight 390 grams

Autonomous operation

A separate section in the settings is responsible for energy saving, where you can limit the processor frequency and configure the screen for less power consumption.

The device has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh. With an hour of reading and an hour of video at 70% brightness, its charge lasted for 3 days.

I also ran some battery tests under "clean load":

In video mode at maximum brightness and full volume in headphones, the tablet lasted 4 hours 45 minutes (an MX player with HW decoding was used). For the test, a file in HD resolution was used.

In reading mode (10% brightness, automatic page turning, airplane mode on), the tablet lasted 9 hours.

Overall, these are good results, I was pleased with the autonomy of the model.

Performance

Roma described the processor used in detail, let me quote a piece from his review of Tab 2 10.1:

“This is where the main changes took place. Samsung abandoned the NVIDIA Tegra 2 chipset and installed the chipset of the American company Texas Instruments - OMAP 4430. Technical process - 45 nm, CPU instruction set - ARMv7, graphics accelerator - PowerVR SGX540. Processor – dual-core Cortex-A9 with clock frequency 1 GHz. The chipset belongs to the fourth generation of OMAP, which contains an IVA3 hardware multimedia accelerator with programmable DSP, which allows encoding/decoding of 1080p Full HD video.".

The device has 1 GB of RAM; when you first turn it on, about 400 MB is available to the user, this amount is enough to comfortably solve most tasks. The capacity of the internal storage varies - two models will be available with 8 and 16 GB of internal memory.

As for performance, it is worth noting that the model is faster than its competitors when surfing the web. Unlike the same IconBIT Matrix, here you can comfortably use a browser. Pages load and turn quickly, there are no problems with this.

But when flipping through tables, there are still stutters, but this is clearly a problem with TouchWiz, not the processor, since there are no stutters in third-party launchers.

operating system

The model comes with pre-installed Android 4.0.3 and TouchWiz shell on top of it. WITH detailed review Android 4.0 can be found. I’ll tell you about the features of the new TouchWiz below.

The first thing that catches your eye is the similarity of the shell with the one installed in the Galaxy S3, for example, the application menu is designed in the same way, the same wallpaper is preinstalled.

The S Planner and Notes apps are also very similar to those in S3.

I'm glad that Samsung still provides its devices with built-in file manager. Although it is simple, its functionality is sufficient for ordinary users.

The new models abandoned Swype and installed their own keyboard (which, again, is similar to that in the S3). This is a huge step back. I really liked Swype in Tab 7.7, but now I can't even install it on my tablet because it's not supported. Unlike the S3 keyboard, you can't enter text using gestures. The new keyboard, of course, is worse than Swype, but it is also quite convenient for input, especially in vertical mode; we are pleased with the numbers placed in a separate row.

You can make calls and send SMS from the tablet; proprietary applications are preinstalled for this. Unfortunately, there is no Russian layout on the dialer, and the quality of photos deteriorates after synchronization. IN address book You can't even change the current contact, you can only add a new one.

In the status bar, in addition to the three usual buttons, they also added a quick screenshot. A short press on the button takes a screenshot and takes you to editing it, while a long press simply takes a screenshot. In the center of the status bar there is a button to open the panel quick access to popular actions. This could be a calendar, phone, SMS messages, mail, alarm clock and music. When you click on one of the shortcuts, a thumbnail of the application is called up. Looks unusual, but comfortable.

Of the interesting widgets, I would only note beautiful watch and a weather widget. By the way, unlike the Galaxy S3, here clicking on the clock widget brings up an alarm rather than time settings, and this is a big plus.

The shell makes the model different from competitors and recognizable. However, Samsung needs to work more carefully on it so that at least the tables stop slowing down.

Of the minuses, I would note the poor performance of the wallpaper with third-party launchers. In all third-party launchers (Ya shell, Go Launcher HD for Pad, Apex Launcher, Nova Launcher) the selected wallpaper increased in size, causing the picture to appear blurry. Also, my lock screen did not work, I reset the device, reflashed it, but none of this could solve the problem, perhaps this is only a drawback of my sample.

Multimedia

Tab 2 7.0 comes pre-installed with its own proprietary applications for music and video.

The music app is very similar to the Galaxy S3 in style. When first opened, the user is presented with three columns. The first contains options for sorting songs (by album, artist, genre or folder), in the middle there is a list of all songs, and on the right (in horizontal mode) or below (in vertical mode) there is a playback control panel and a list of songs in the order in which they will be played play. Player supports following formats: MP3, OGG, AAC-LC / AAC / AAC+ / eAAC+, AC-3, AMR-NB / WB, WMA, WAV, MID, IMY, FLAC. You can quickly control playback through the status bar or a separate widget, the size of which is adjustable.

Video. The tablet supports many formats, since it uses the same processor as in the older model, the results are the same, so I’ll give you a list from Roma’s review (I’ll separately note that I tested the same video files and the results were the same as in his list):

  • MKV (1080p, h264, High profile 4.1, 40 Mbit/s). The standard player does not play, MX Video player plays, but the video is very slow
  • MKV (1080p, vc1, ap13, 18 Mbps, AC3). The standard player does not show video, but there is sound. MX Video Player shows video, but slows down, there is sound
  • MKV (1080p, h264, High profile 4.1, 10 Mbit/s, DTS). The standard player shows video, but no sound. MXVP shows video, there is sound, but in “software” mode
  • MKV (720p, h264, High profile 5.1, 3 Mbit/s, Vorbis). No problem
  • MKV (480p, XViD, as15, 1 Mbit/s, AAC). The standard player does not play, everything is fine in MXVP (“software” mode)
  • MPEG (480p, 5 Mbps). The standard player does not play, everything is fine in MXVP
  • TS (720p, MPEG, AC3). The standard player does not play, in MXVP the sound is ahead of the video
  • AVI, MP4, FLV and 3GP standard player plays without problems.

Camera

The tablet has two cameras: rear - 3 MP and front - 0.3 MP. Roma described the camera interface in detail, I recommend that you read this part of the review.

The manufacturer decided to abandon autofocus in the rear camera, which immediately affected the quality of the pictures. I suggest you evaluate their quality yourself below.

The video is recorded in a resolution of 1280x720 pixels at 30 frames per second. Among other things, the front camera is supported Skype program, and you can use it for video calls.

Examples of photos taken with the main camera:

Examples of photos taken with the front camera:

Interfaces

There is a full set of wireless interfaces.

Wi-Fi (b/g/n)– the usual Wi-Fi module, works flawlessly. The network is not lost, the reception level is at the level of most other smartphones and tablets.

3G module- optionally available and mobile internet, works great. There are no complaints about network loss.

GPS– used for navigation Google program Maps, a cold start takes about a minute, then satellites are searched for 20-30 seconds.

Bluetooth 4.0latest version features reduced energy consumption.

Conclusion

The average price of the Wi-Fi version is 9,500 rubles, and the version with 3G is 13,000 rubles. For this money you get a full-fledged (albeit small) tablet that does an excellent job with video, web surfing and reading. In addition, you can even make calls from it. I would also note the good assembly and materials as a plus.

Competitors

The Wi-Fi version has several competitors.

IconBIT MATRIX. A good model, a complete clone of Ainol Aurora, among the advantages I would note a better screen, less weight and thickness. Of the minuses - poor work with the browser and a disgusting assembly. The cost of the model is about 6 thousand, and now NetTAB Slim Pro is starting to replace it. I’m just planning to take this tablet for testing, however, if it doesn’t have problems with the assembly and the browser, then it will be a more serious competitor, because its price is only 6 thousand rubles.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. An identical model from Samsung, but with a different processor, recently began receiving an update to 4.0. It costs a little more, I would rather focus on Tab 2 7.0.

The 3G version has a more worthy competitor - Huawei MediaPad. The average cost is 13 thousand. Its huge advantage is the screen and pure Android, as well as the monolithic aluminum body. Among the advantages of Tab 2 7.0 are the ability to make calls and higher brand awareness.

As a result, if you need a high-quality seven-inch tablet with 3G, then it is better to pay attention to the Huawei MediaPad, but if you want to save money and take a tablet only with Wi-Fi, then the Tab 2 7.0 is a good option, overpaying a couple of thousand compared to lesser-known ones models from iconBIT and others are definitely justified.

  • Good screen
  • fast browser,
  • nice widgets,
  • own audio and video players,
  • support for many audio and video formats,
  • high quality assemblies.

In 2010, which is quite distant by the standards of the current mobile industry, Samsung opened a line of 7-inch tablets. We even published a review of this device, coming to a mixed conclusion. Then Samsung produced one of the best Android tablets at that time, but in comparison with the iPad it was inferior in almost all respects, including cost.

Over time, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus and the flagship Galaxy Tab 7.7 were introduced to the market. The end of May was marked by the appearance in the CIS of the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 model, which can be considered an intermediate link between budget tablets and flagship offerings.

If the first Tab with a 3G module cost an exorbitant amount of about 27-28 thousand, then the current model with a 3G module will cost no more than 13 thousand. Samsung explains such a radical reduction in cost by the fact that in 2010 it was just beginning to test the production of tablets. And as a result, she was forced to bear high production costs. However, this comment does not carry much value in light of the fact that the stated price is normal (i.e. competitive) for a 7-inch tablet PC with the characteristics of the Tab 2.

Design

The Tab 2 cannot boast of a memorable appearance. In our opinion, the exterior of the tablet turned out to be too faceless - there is nothing to catch the eye. However, on the other hand, there is nothing to complain about; we are dealing with a thin profile and small stylish buttons.

There is a small speaker grill just above the screen in the center. It is also found in previous models of the line. This solution does not look entirely successful, since a priori it evokes an association with a large phone. Apparently Samsung intends to use the tablet as a complete replacement for a smartphone or regular phone, but doesn’t quite understand the appropriateness of having a 7-inch device next to the ear. To be fair, we note that the device also has “regular” speakers.

However, let’s not quibble and take the tablet in our hands. In the palms of the hand, the impression of the model improves dramatically, which is facilitated by a more than acceptable weight of 345 grams. In any case, even girls should not have problems holding the Tab 2 7.0 with one hand. The thin thickness of the case is accompanied by the absence of clear right angles on the sides. Therefore, discomfort from parts of the body resting on the palm is not felt, giving way to an ergonomic design.

Considering the quality of workmanship, it should be noted that we have a pre-sale sample of the tablet. Apparently that is why in the lower part, in the corners between the body and the lid, gaps were clearly visible. In commercial versions of Tab 2 they are removed. However, we cannot say with the same confidence that Samsung has also eliminated the slight but quite noticeable flex of the back cover. After testing, which had the same problem a little more pronounced, I wanted to get a more worthy answer from Samsung.

Execution materials are another controversial point. While the glass of the front panel does not cause any complaints, the plastic of the lid does not look or feel very presentable.

We were provided with the tablet along with a soft dermantine case. We don’t know whether one can be found on sale, since the tablet is still very new. But, we believe, this will cost around a thousand rubles.

Connectors and controls

After Google released Android 3.x, it was almost possible to accurately determine which version of the system was installed on the tablet. Budget followers of Android 2.2/2.3 continued to demonstrate a number of touch buttons under the screen, and owners of Android 3.x were deprived of them. Android 4.0 retained the approach of having all the additional buttons on the system panel, so there are no buttons on the front panel of the Tab 2.

Instead, in the upper part in the center there is the already mentioned speaker, covered with a fine mesh, as well as light and distance sensors. At the bottom there is only the name of the manufacturer.

On the left side there are slots for a microSD memory card and a SIM card. Our attempt to install the SIM card failed - it successfully fell inside and strongly recommended contacting a service center. By the way, all connectors contain plugs, which is a very useful point - no matter where the tablet is stored, dust and dirt will not clog into the connectors.

On the right side there is a place for dual volume control keys and an on/off button. They are raised above the body, fit comfortably under the index finger and are pressed without difficulty.

At the top end there is only a 3.5 mm output for a headset or headphones.

The lower part of the tablet is interesting because there are speaker slots on both sides. Note that they produce good volume and sound quality, as far as possible for a tablet form factor. In the center there is a 30-pin connector for connecting to a computer or connecting to a charger.

On the back cover we see only the Samsung inscription and the camera peephole in the upper left corner. Along the way, we note that the Tab 2 does not have a flash.

In our case, the tablet was submitted for testing “as is,” so we didn’t get to see its full package in person.

The 7-inch display offers a resolution of 1024x600 pixels, which is now becoming more or less the standard for such a diagonal, instead of the obsolete 800x480 pixels. The pixel density is 169 ppi. Of course, the display is capacitive, with multi-touch support and up to 10 simultaneous touches inclusive. Samsung's arsenal of screens allows the company to "maneuver" depending on the cost of the tablet. Tab 2 received a PLS matrix of its own production.

In terms of its properties, it seemed to us practically indistinguishable from IPS variations. However, it was not without both positive and negative features. An unpleasant surprise There was a lack of sufficiently deep black color, which is especially noticeable in films with dark scenes. However, the measured contrast was 947:1, which is not too bad. And the black level at 100% brightness was only 0.41 cd/m2. Here, apparently, the disadvantage of PLS played a role, which manifests itself in a purple tint of black when looking at the screen at an angle.

But the overall excellent brightness of the display serves as compensation. At first it even seemed to us that the value was set to maximum, but no - the slider was only halfway down the line. Accordingly, in the sun the color image is clearly visible. The brightness of the white point on the screen is 388 cd/m2 - above average.

At the same time, you should stock up on a cloth in advance to wipe the glass coating, which quickly collects fingerprints. The viewing angles of the Tab 2 are another specific highlight of the tablet. They are quite large, but even with a small deviation both vertically and horizontally, a barely noticeable gray “film” begins to appear.

As for the color temperature, the Tab 2 showed a smooth graph without “blockages”; almost along the entire length it goes close to the reference value. For comparison, you can look at ours to see the difference between high-quality PLS and budget TFT.

With gamma curves everything is even better; the line almost does not deviate from the reference one. Only in the upper part is some disproportion visible, indicating a slight overexposure of the picture.

Camera

The tablet has two cameras, which allows us to more or less high quality pictures receive and carry out video communications over the Internet. The rear camera has three megapixels, maximum resolution shooting 2048x1536 pixels. Front camera perceived purely with the prefix “web” due to the presence of only 0.3 megapixels.

Despite the fact that we are dealing with Android 4.0, no matter how hard we try, some innovations are invisible, which is certainly more likely to be the fault of the limited capabilities of the front camera.

It doesn't even have autofocus, let alone an LED flash. It doesn’t make much sense to talk about the shooting settings, since they basically duplicate what could be seen at least in . Only for Tab 2 the number of options has been cut almost in half.

After a depressing set of settings, the quality of the resulting images turned out to be surprisingly acceptable. Before we got acquainted with the characteristics of the tablet, it seemed that the model had a 5-megapixel camera. In any case, if you don’t have a point-and-shoot device at hand, the Tab 2 will not be the worst replacement for shooting.

The rear camera had no surprises; it turned out to be especially sensitive to poor lighting.

Characteristics

The new Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 will have to compete with relatively inexpensive Chinese solutions like Huawei MediaPad.

The hardware looks quite powerful. The dual-core processor has become almost a standard feature of tablets in the mid-price segment. The number of processor cores has never been used as a measure of performance on Android since the advent of Tegra 2 due to poor software and hardware optimization. With the advent of Tegra 3 the situation has changed little.

RAM is present in the proper amount - 1 GB. 16 GB of storage space is enough for a small multimedia collection, including a couple of HD movies. In addition, you can install a memory card up to 32 GB, creating 48 GB of storage.

Partially wireless networks Tab 2 has complete order - it also supports the ability to talk in cellular networks, and 3G, and the full arsenal of 802.11b/g/n. I was also pleased with Bluetooth version 3.0. The lack of NFC is not particularly upsetting, since the technology is not yet very widespread in the CIS.

Regarding the battery capacity, the stated 4000 mAh seems to be the optimal choice for a 7-inch tablet with a high resolution. Wonders of Autonomous work Tab 2 does not show, charging, depending on the tasks performed, does not show miracles of operating time and allows the tablet to function for 5-8 hours.

If we compare it with Huawei MediaPad, which seems to be the closest competitor, then the choice is far from the most obvious. Most of the characteristics are the same; the advantage of the Huawei model is expressed in a slightly more powerful processor and “honest” IPS. But it has outdated Bluetooth 2.1 and weighs 41 grams more. Finally, Huawei is not yet famous for its software add-ons.

Performance testing

It was decided to check the actual performance in comparison with the already familiar PocketBook A7", which has a single-core 1 GHz processor, 512 MB of RAM and a weaker GPU. Let's see how well the Tab 2 actually lives up to its superior performance.

SmartBench 2011 started with an almost devastating difference. Apparently, the test managed to make the most of the multi-core processor Samsung tablet, as well as its RAM. Accordingly, the 4-fold superiority is obvious. The 2012 edition turned out to be not so categorical. In overall performance, the 4x advantage remains, but the gaming capabilities are no longer so noticeably behind. Maybe the A7" graphics are not so low-power?

AnTutu again puts everything in its place, the difference in results turns out to be 2-4 times on all fronts. The only “abnormal” exception was 2D graphics. Apparently the PowerVR SGX 530 chip has far from obvious abilities.

The Linpack test is based on the computing ability of the processor, so expecting a more or less decent result from the A7" would be, to say the least, stupid.

Series graphics tests dispelled the doubts left after Smartbench 2012. The gap in all benchmarks was at least twofold, so A7" owners should not create illusions about performance compared to even such “average” tablets by today’s standards as the Tab 2.

The multi-core system has fully justified itself in JavaScript tests; the 4-5 times superiority fully and with a decent margin justifies the difference in characteristics between the tablets.

The PocketBook tablet gained about 25% in the battery life test, which can be explained by the trivially lower load of the system and programs on the battery. Still, the more limited the performance, the better it gets. autonomous operation devices. How much of an advantage this is is a completely different conversation. The autonomy test according to AnTutu showed a slight difference, but we tend to trust our own practical measurement more.

Overall, the superiority of the Tab 2 fully justifies its superiority. powerful processor and a graphics chip - the overpayment for their capabilities is justified and really gives a multiple advantage over less productive platforms.

Software (Android 4)

It is not difficult to guess that the device has Android 4.0 with the TouchWiz add-on. We hasten to immediately disappoint readers a little - a dual-core processor, as always, was not a guarantee of performance. This in no way means that the tablet is slow. On the contrary, it works quite quickly, but once again it was not possible to achieve the ideal.

Let's just say that there is no significant difference compared to single-core platforms. A striking example is the built-in image editing program, which clearly “reduces FPS” when working with effects. When several tasks are launched, and interactive wallpaper is installed in the background, 1 GB of memory and two 1 GHz cores remain only on paper in the tablet’s characteristics graphs.

If you are also already familiar with one of Samsung devices on Android based 3.x, then Android ICS with TouchWiz performed by Tab 2 will not be a revelation for you. Quite the contrary - the changes are mostly cosmetic in nature, it feels like we are dealing with a slightly improved and optimized Android 3.x. This is also expressed in programs; truly new developments can be counted on the fingers of one hand. Therefore, for a detailed tour of pre-installed applications, we send you to the “Screenshots” section.

The start menu greets us with the absence of a lock screen. It could not be found anywhere, including in the system settings. Feature of an industrial design? Maybe. So, on the main screen we see a set of programs in two rows, at the top there is a quick call Google search, display the number of desktops and go to full list programs. On the bottom panel on the left is a standard set of virtual keys for Android ICS: return, going to the start menu, calling a list of running tasks and taking a screenshot.

A few words about last point. Unlike ASUS Prime, the screenshot does not have a prominent white button in place of the capture key in the resulting photo. Samsung “compensated” for this advantage by the fact that after taking a photo, the system automatically opens it in the editor. It’s very “convenient” when you need to get a series of 100-200 screenshots.

By holding down the home button, we get a general idea of all available desktops, with the ability to delete current ones and add new ones.

At the bottom there is a pop-up panel with a list of programs for fast loading. It is not edited in any way.

There was a tray; in general, it is not very different from what we have already seen in Android 3.x.

The logic for choosing widgets and wallpapers is lame on both legs. By holding a touch on any screen, we get an add menu, from which it’s difficult to say what we’re being asked to do. The sequence of construction of phrases is also disappointing, the construction “Select wallpaper from Home screen" is difficult to understand. Interestingly, in the English version of the interface the menu is no less pleasing.

There are surprisingly few wallpapers available, but the pictures chosen are extremely attractive. There were also interactive wallpapers.

The selection of widgets is quite large, although it was not a revelation - there are gadgets for all major programs.

List preinstalled programs It’s not that small, but it’s too familiar to us from previous Samsung devices. On the other hand, this is a more than sufficient set for the average user.

The list of new or changed programs, as we have already said, is extremely modest. Nevertheless, let's go through them. First in line is the most powerful office suite Polaris Office.

The tablet has new version, which has a radically different interface from what we saw in the Galaxy S II. Firstly, the menu has changed visually. It notifies us that the program has learned to support cloud services.

In our case, synchronization with Google Drive took place without any problems.

The built-in file manager has undergone changes; it has become much more convenient and functional. On top panel You can instantly create a new file, add a new folder, change the order of files and search.

In the editor text documents The editing options panel is now located in the upper right corner. It is called after selecting a piece of text. The visual presentation of the settings is beyond praise - they are divided into bookmarks and are intuitive.

The situation is similar with the table editor.

Slide creation has also undergone changes in better side, the settings are organized more clearly.

The Pulse program looks very interesting. This is a creative look at organizing your own RSS feed, but not with a dry text list, but with a kind of mini-site. The idea is to install news feeds of information sites in the line. That is, on the first line we read the Wall Steet Journal, on the second we look at the Popular Mechanics summary, etc.

Moreover, sets of tapes are presented in the form of “working” tables. So on one we can store fashion tapes, on the second - technology. In general, real Web 2.0 in all its glory.

The calendar has been updated, although it’s impossible to note anything truly noteworthy. For each day, you can set different tasks to complete, with the ability to synchronize between your devices.

Samsung Apps has been visually retouched. The organization of applications has become better, but the dark background does not look good best choice for service.

The system's alarm clock left a good impression, largely due to the compact and efficient layout of the settings.

The Samsung video player has undergone minor functional improvements. A large list of options appears by clicking on the button in the upper right corner; options such as selecting subtitles and setting playback speed are available. However, the proportions of the panels called up during viewing are poorly chosen - they take up half the screen in total, although they are translucent.

Not without the task manager, which allows you to close a separate running application or clear the entire list of running programs at once. It is possible to sort processes according to different parameters.

The system browser is still good looking. In comparison with what was seen, only its color palette has changed.

The music player, as befits a program of its category, has many options for filtering and organizing song lists. An equalizer and playback controls are available from the system tray.

It’s difficult to come up with anything truly new with telephone functions, so we work with the familiar dialing or messaging interface, as well as the contact log.

To improve communication capabilities, the ChatON client is pre-installed. It is a comprehensive chat solution for paired or group conversations and file sharing. In general, a typical IM client.

The Game Hub service has undergone a strange change. Previously, it provided access to many Gameloft games with the ability to download and free game during the demo period. Now all that’s left of it is some vague application that simply redirects us to Google Play.

The World Time program looks truly original. It contains a three-dimensional globe, which displays different cities, which can be used to find out the time in different time zones.

In conclusion, we repeat what was said above - there are no special innovations for those who are familiar with past Samsung Android-based products. At the same time, the company continued its policy of supplying its developments with the maximum amount necessary programs"out of the box".

Conclusion

The positioning of the Tab 2 looks like a completely successful attempt by Samsung to present a tablet capable of meeting all the most current requirements for this type of device. In any case, the model has all the features that distinguish it from typical budget tablets.

The quality of the picture is ensured by the sun-resistant and high-quality PLS display, which in fact does not seem like a compromise in comparison with IPS. The dual-core processor is more than enough for both basic and demanding tasks. In the end, manufacturers have not yet been able to convincingly prove the need for quad-core platforms. The 3G module is not at all exclusive, but with it the user will not depend on a Wi-Fi connection.

The design of the tablet does not have any notable features, but due to the small thickness of the case it still looks attractive. The only let down were the case assembly and the unpresentable plastic of the back cover. I would also like to see Gorilla Glass protective coating in the Tab 2.

Price

The cost of a model with a 3G module is about 13 thousand. We learn whether this is a lot or a little in comparison with the offers of competitors. The main parameters for searching for rivals were the presence of a 3G module and a 7-inch screen with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels. This is Huawei MediaPad, Acer Iconia Tab A101 and Explay MID-725.

You can now buy a Huawei MediaPad for 12,000 rubles. We made a more or less direct comparison with the Tab 2 in the characteristics section. The difference in price fully covers possible shortcomings of the tablet.

Acer Iconia Tab A101 will cost 12,500-13,000 rubles. It is built on the basis of NVIDIA Tegra 2, but is unpleasantly surprised by the presence of a TN+Film matrix, which is unacceptable for such an expensive tablet.

Finally, Explay MID-725 has only 4 GB of memory for data storage, but also costs only 8,000 rubles. True, the characteristics of the Tab 2 are sky-high - a single-core 1.2 GHz processor, Android 2.3, 512 MB of RAM and a TFT screen. A moment of humor, let’s appreciate the flight of thought from one of the Russian online stores: “Explay MID-725 almost completely repeats the capabilities of the one promoted on the market iPad tablet, at the same time, it has something to brag about over Apple products.”

In general, compared to its competitors, the Tab 2 does not look like the best tablet, but it is quite worthy of a buyer’s choice.

Pros:

  • high-quality PLS screen;
  • slim body;
  • light weight;
  • 3G support;
  • the ability to expand memory with microSD cards;
  • productive hardware platform;
  • Android 4 with TouchWiz shell;
  • high quality rear camera.

Cons:

  • fingerprints quickly accumulate on the screen;
  • the back cover bends;
  • the system is poorly optimized.

    samsung and no more

I bought it in 2012. The tablet is still working and performs its functions, it is now February 2019, which means it is 7 years old. Service life from the manufacturer is 3 years. Now the firmware is Line Age OS Android 6.0.1 (13.0-20180211-NIGHTLY-espresso3g) - this is the most stable firmware with long battery life, all devices work. The tablet works confidently, stably, at a speed corresponding to the hardware. Very loud speakers, the navigator shouts over any music in the car. The camera is 3MP, but in good lighting the pictures are not bad (if it happened that you had to take photographs with this tablet). The main thing is not to use non-standard launchers and dialers, they are often a source of slowdowns and dullness. Currently I use it as a clock, radio on my desktop. Overall - old, reliable

Great device! Very reliable. Lasted almost 4 years with constant heavy use. I've never been disappointed. I purchased it mainly for surfing the Internet, reading books, and also for a number of useful applications. I hardly used the phone, mostly with headphones. The battery lasted for a day. He fell several times, but not from a great height. The glass did not crack and continued to work normally. The problems started after I fell under water. The battery began to discharge faster; after it was completely discharged, it was very difficult to turn it on. In general, I'm now looking for a replacement.

I've been using it for 3 years now, great to use

The sound often disappears (can be cured by rebooting), freezes for about 10 minutes (happened a couple of times), the power off and sound button is not convenient. The sensor does not work periodically, I could not find out the reasons. In short, for this money I expected more... I am adding after 3 years of use. Doesn't work. It loads and that's it... It's not possible to go anywhere... It freezes completely...

The stock firmware from Samsung became very dull over a certain period of time. There isn't enough space in the storage, but that's a thing of the past) Now I don't install anything unnecessary on it, which means everything works fine.
