Good news first: The new iPhone 7 ships with a Lightning to 3.5mm Audio Jack adapter.

If you lose the adapter, don't worry: Apple sells the Lightning-to-Jack adapter for only 799 rubles. However, those users who want to recharge their smartphone while listening to music will have to resort to using additional accessories.

For example, Belkin has developed an adapter with connectors for charger and headphones. It will have to cost no more than 40 euros (2900 rubles), but has not yet appeared on sale. The iPhone 7 also ships with Apple's wired headphones - with a Lightning connector, of course. With old devices manufactured by the company Apple new the headphones should also work without problems.

However, during the test, this was only possible if the operating system iOS 10 was installed on the mobile phone. Otherwise, an error message pops up stating that the connected accessory is not supported.

Various models

The manufacturer offers the new iPhone 7 in three versions with different amounts of internal memory: 32, 128 and 256 GB. Thus, Apple finally said goodbye to the smallest, 16 GB version, which, due to the lack of the ability to expand the built-in memory using microSD cards no longer meets modern requirements. The device we tested has 128 GB and costs 66,000 rubles.

iPhone 7: design

At first glance, the appearance has not changed very much compared to. The smartphone has the same dimensions, the design is almost the same. The new model can only be recognized by the absence of the antenna inserts on the reverse side and the already mentioned audio jack.

After receiving a lot of criticism regarding the previous model of Apple, iPhone case 7 has received protection in accordance with the requirements of the certification according to the IP67 standard. Now the smartphone will be able to safely survive a fall into a bath or a pouring rain. In addition, the manufacturer has detailed instructions for iPhone 7 owners with instructions on how to proceed if your phone gets wet.

The brightest star in the sky

In terms of screen resolution, Apple remains true to itself and continues to use a panel with the following parameters: 1334x750 pixels. Thus, a pixel density of 325 ppi is achieved on a 4.7-inch display. New to the HD display is color quality: like the iPad Pro, the iPhone 7 can handle an extended color space (DCI-P3).

In the test lab, the iPhone7's display performed very well. The maximum brightness of the screen is 544 cd / m2, the checkerboard contrast is at the level of 146: 1. iPhone 7: camera performance

Unlike the Plus version, the iPhone 7 does not come with a wide-angle lens. The 12-megapixel camera now features optical image stabilization and a larger aperture (f / 1.8) than the previous model (f / 2.2).

Photos can also be saved in RAW format, which provides advanced options for post-processing images. With the iPhone 7, this now applies to Live Photos as well. As with the previous model, the iPhone 6s, the camera has the ability to shoot 4K video at 30 frames per second.

In the test lab, the main camera took clear photos with good resolution - however, we did not feel a real breakthrough in image quality compared to. The shutter time is 0.86 seconds and the photos are generally balanced and relatively neutral in color. In poor lighting conditions, the pictures look extremely bright - you can't say from them that there was little light at the time of taking pictures. However, this comes at the expense of detail: the pictures are relatively soft.

Achilles' heel - a battery?

As you know, Apple uses batteries in its devices that can be called rather small. But the value alone does not mean anything - the iPhone 7 has a battery capacity of less than 2000 mAh. Another indicator by which you can judge battery performance is how the processor is handling the battery.

In our test, the 4.7-inch phone's online battery life was a good 9 hours 1 minute. This figure for the iPhone 7 belongs to the top of our smartphone ranking and is about the same.

For comparison: Samsung "sponsored" a 3600 mAh battery for its Edge-phone, Apple has generous with only 1960 mAh.

The charging time is a cause for criticism: it will take the iPhone 7 as much as 2 hours 34 minutes to fully restore its energy reserves. Quick Charge technologies on board the 4.7-inch smartphone have not found a place for themselves. Apple also saved on NFC by integrating functionality only for Apple Pay by default. In Russia, this service should appear before the end of autumn.

New functionality and iOS 10

By changing the Home button, Apple has thrown the physical button overboard by integrating a capacitive touch surface that is activated via Force Touch. The so-called Taptic Engine, developed by Apple, provides the feeling that your finger is pressing a physical button after all. Thanks to the second camera with a telephoto lens, there is a 2x optical zoom, which will make it possible to get closer to the picture without loss of quality, while the Galaxy S8 has only digital zoom. Also, thanks to the dual camera in the iPhone, it is possible to obtain images with the "bokeh" effect (a clear figure remains in focus, and the background becomes blurred like in DSLR cameras). However, here you need to get a handle: the exposure does not always allow you to achieve the desired effect, the edges are not always clear, and the light must be maintained with distance. Also, do not forget that the "Portrait" mode is a software feature of iOS.

Taking photos in motion

With intense movement of the subject, both cameras shoot perfectly. Of course, flaws may appear in both representatives, and here a lot depends on the time you press the "shutter".

Low light photography

In low light conditions, the iPhone 7 Plus lags behind the South Korean flagship "due" to more noise.

Front camera photo

The front camera of the Galaxy S8 is slightly blurry and unnecessarily softening when taking selfies. But the main advantage of the "galaxy" is a wider viewing angle of the lens, which allows you to capture more space with a minimum distance of the smartphone.

But in low light, the Galaxy S8's selfies are brighter and more detailed. But do not forget that in the iPhone 7 Plus, the display can act as a flash, so this nuance is partially offset.

Of the minuses - a large number of dark areas. Focusing on the iPhone is at a shorter distance, but the autofocus speed itself is faster on the Galaxy S8.

Outcome

The cameras in both smartphones are really good. Every year, manufacturers take small steps to take the quality of the mobile picture to a new level. In terms of video shooting, it is difficult to single out any of the flagships and you obviously won't notice any obvious differences.

But as for the photo, then here the Samsung Galaxy S8 is definitely in the lead. The images are of higher quality. The camera in Galaxy is faster. There is access to RAW "out of the box", but the iPhone only at the expense. The front camera has more resolution and slightly better stabilization and the ability to shoot in low light.

So if we discard the features with portrait photography with the dual camera of the iPhone 7 Plus, then we give preference in taking photos to the Galaxy S8. Let's hope that Apple will rehabilitate itself in September and showcase a new milestone in technology, but that will be a completely different story.

The antennas, as you can see, are hidden at the ends, as for the reception - there seem to be no obvious changes, I will test it further. It seems to me that if you hold a smartphone in your hand, then in areas with poor reception, it can be worse than the iPhone 6S. There are no problems on the street.

So, the basic set of colors is usual: gold, rose gold, silver. All of them are familiar, girls and fashionistas will like the pink version, someone chooses the gold one, but many immediately take in their sight matte black or glossy black, aka Jet Black, aka “black onyx”.

It is created like this: first, the case is anodized (nine levels), then polished using a special technology. The smartphone has a special packaging, a completely black box, boxes with regular iPhones are white. I chose Jet Black, firstly, because the color is clearly the most interesting, and secondly, I want to see how the coating will behave in everyday life. Despite the crying on the network, I will note this - prints appear, scratches are possible, but all this is such nonsense compared to appearance devices. Looks amazing! It immediately resembles both glass and ceramics, recalls the memories of Nokia Luna and black Nokia 8800 - remember with such a deep color? Believe me, among the other “sevens” it is Jet Black that is perceived as a luxury smartphone, although in terms of functionality it is no different from its counterparts. In Russia and in the world there is a terrible shortage of such devices, it will not be possible to go in and buy from the street for many, many months, in Russia the top iPhone 7 Plus Jet Black cost about 400,000 rubles on the gray market (and then you have to look). So, if you have the opportunity to buy just such a device, skip all the rumors and articles about a terribly easily soiled smartphone by. Marky, yes. But there has never been such an iPhone - it's just something.

Yes, other tips are especially depressing - wrap Jet Black in a case, in a rag, seal with a film, this is the worst thing that can be done with an iPhone 7. For a couple of days of active use, the smartphone did not fly out of my hands, although I already had a chance to wet it, take it with greasy hands while preparing food, and mock it in other ways. Jet Black surface is easy to clean from marks. Sometimes you confuse sides, try to search Home button on the back. Apparently, soon it will be a normal situation.

As you know, Apple has abandoned the mechanical Home button, as always, the company is a revolutionary in various fields - while others are thinking about what to steal from Apple, Apple is coming up with something else. Why the mechanics were removed, the inquisitive reader will ask. After all, for so many years the button has pleased us with a pleasant "clatter"! The button was removed for several reasons. Any moving parts, "mechanics" - extra costs for production, plus users break buttons with strong hands, come to the service, all this is a disaster. In addition, this is probably due to protection from water and dust. Apple doesn't do charity work; Apple does business. Minus the button there, minus the connector here, that's the savings in production! We are talking about millions of devices. How does a button behave in real life? After activating the device, you adjust the response level, three steps: weak, medium, strong, I set strong. The finger does not even vibrate, but a pleasant touch on the other hand, all actions remain the same, however, during the first hours you will need to get used to quickly “tap” twice to call running applications. And for a "soft" reboot, a different scheme is now applied, you need to hold down the volume down button and the power button.

In everyday life, a button with a Taptic Engine has both pros and cons. Pros - no physical pressure required to enter. Here, as before, there is a fingerprint sensor, it works instantly, there are very few errors, I advise you to assign several fingers to unlock for greater convenience. Cons - If you are used to a physical button and cannot accept innovation, then you need to stay with the iPhone 6 / 6S.

Further, most likely, it will be even more interesting. Apple may well remove all buttons from the case. Touchpads at the ends, automatic volume control, multiple assignments for the Home button, tapping, strong and weak touches - this is what will happen in the near future with the iPhone. You can laugh, you can judge, but before you do, take a look at the Home button on the iPhone 7. You know, it works great!

The rejection of the 3.5 mm jack occurred for the same reasons. Minus one element - plus space, plus protection from water, dust, plus a boost to the entire stagnant industry of wired headphones, plus a boost for Bluetooth. Apple is very good at cutting off unnecessary things.

Every year I choose Plus because of the size of the display and camera capabilities, a smartphone replaces both a tablet and a phone for me - the iPad Pro sometimes helps, but more often I even write posts to my blog with using iPhone(mobile WordPress really pleases). But I wouldn’t recommend such a device to every person, it’s too healthy. In fact, this is the basic level of protection. Surely the company will collect statistics, and the next device will have full protection from water, like the Apple Watch series 2.

But even the iPhone 7 is already undergoing unthinkable tests. They drown him in cola, soup, tea, coffee, freeze him, dive - in general, no matter what tests they come up with for the amusement of the public. Despite the incomplete protection, the device is able to withstand a lot - my friend and I bathed the 7 Plus in a vase of water for about twenty minutes, took a photo, called, nothing happened.

My advice to you is not to repeat all this nonsense. Still, this is not a professional device, and then you should go to the service, not the journalists. The pouring rain, the games by the sea, the girls will surely like that after falling into the toilet, the iPhone 7 will continue to work as if nothing had happened. Friends in the services call this the main reason for the breakdown (if we talk about girls). Apparently, the era of the toilet is leaving, and this, of course, is good.

I even had the idea to change the display completely - it's so bad without an oleophobic coating. Now that the iPhone is still new, everything is very good. As far as I can see, the brightness has changed significantly, the viewing angles have become better, the display has Feedback, and now it has reached a new level. Previously, a strong press brought up an additional menu of actions, now it is even better in a number of programs - the screen works in conjunction with the Taptic Engine. For example, when you set the timer and turn the wheel, a gear seems to move under the pad of your finger, the memories of the "jog" in Sony phones... The sensation is very interesting and unexpected - in fact, it is not the screen that vibrates, but the motor below. Some games and other programs have the same effects. In general, traditionally for Apple, while some are chasing crazy brightness and acidic colors, they work here at the level of emotions, sensations - it's hard to give up these chips. And to reproduce it somewhere else is also difficult - here the connection between hardware and software is at an incredible level.

If you suddenly decide to use films or glass, I recommend Just Mobile products - there are practically invisible accessories with an interesting technology of "self-healing" of scratches, they tighten.

Audio

I'll tell you the main thing right away, if you use the original Lightning adapter, then control buttons and a microphone work with any headset with MFi (Made for iPhone / iPad) certification. That is, this small adapter reproduces the CTIA pinout. Moreover, a DAC was also found there, so a whole field for experiments begins here - especially for hybrid headphones that support both Bluetooth and cable connections. I think more and more manufacturers of accessories will show adapters for Lightning, and so a new necessary thing for Apple products has quietly appeared.

As for the headset EarPods with Lightning - a convenient and good mass product, it is very good to find such headphones in the kit. In general, good sound quality, comfortable control, a very good microphone, it is quite possible to walk with such headphones every day, especially if you are not an audiophile.

• Cambridge g5, there is an overview of the system on the website, in Russia little is known about the brand yet, but I personally like it - it is quite a normal price, while the system simply plays well. And besides, it is produced in the color "rose gold", for girls it is a godsend. I am very glad that I had a chance to get acquainted with this device - with the iPhone 7 Plus it can be used as the only music center for a small apartment.

• Naim Mu-So Qb, in my opinion, among compact systems this is the best in functionality, sound, design, and features. The best, but also worth it. Since there is AirPlay, wireless audio quality is excellent, although Bluetooth can be used if desired. As you can see, another big plus is that you need a little space for installation. And this is real Hi-Fi!

• Bang & Olufsen BeoPlay H5, I am finishing my review of the headphones, a very interesting thing, as if specially created for the seven. Great design, great application with an interestingly made system of equalizer presets, a convenient cradle for charging, and, in general, you will see how compact and cute the device is. There is no disappointment in the sound, everything is very good with the iPhone 7 Plus, I go with the H5 even more than I should - I'm already used to it. There is also a pink version for girls, a green one was recently introduced. I plan to pay attention to all owners of sevens.

Apple's new XXL phone

Apple offers the iPhone 7 Plus in three different storage sizes: 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB.

Thus, the manufacturer finally said goodbye to the 16 GB version, which, due to the lack of a microSD card slot, has ceased to meet the requirements of our time.

The tested device is the version with the smallest amount of memory (32 GB) and is estimated at 68,000 rubles. In appearance, as in the case of the iPhone 7, there is practically nothing to complain about: the body is made of glass and metal, the transitions are very clean, the antenna lines on the back surface have migrated to the edges. Like its predecessor, the iPhone 7 Plus has a 5.5-inch display.

The new iPhone XXL-format is equipped with the Apple A10 processor, which is allocated as much as 3 GB of RAM. We already admired the speed and responsiveness of the iPhone 7, and the XXL version can score a few more points in the corresponding test category: the system is extremely fast and outperforms all previously tested devices from our rating.

The 5.5-inch display in the test lab delivers remarkable results. For example, with its 570 cd / m2, it turns out to be even slightly brighter than iPhone screen 7. Disadvantages we noticed in the black point settings: this color in the model with the word "Plus" in the name does not appear as dark as expected, which leads to a decrease in the contrast level of the image.

Big fan of savings

In terms of battery capacity, Apple is clearly on a budget. Specifically, the iPhone 7 comes with a 1960mAh battery. In comparison, the Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with a 3,000mAh battery. But these numbers alone are not enough, even for a rough estimate of the battery life. Indeed, the Galaxy S7 only lasts 8 hours and 43 minutes, while the iPhone 7 lasts a good 9 hours and 1 minute.

Now about the iPhone 7 Plus: it has a 2900 mAh battery and lasts for 9 hours 33 minutes without recharging. However, there is a problem: to charge a battery with a slightly larger capacity, it will take a little more time - in this case, the smartphone needs to be connected to the outlet for as much as 3.5 hours. There is no Quick Charge technology on board Apple devices.

iPhone 7 Plus comes with the latest operating system iOS systems 10.0.2. According to Apple, it is free from minor bugs, there are no noticeable innovations in comparison with iOS 10. 32 GB iPhone version The 7 Plus missed some rating points during the test.

Option comparable to the rest technical specifications, but equipped with 128 GB of built-in memory, we have not yet had on the test. So far, this has deprived the iPhone 7 Plus of the opportunity to take a higher place in our rating, since the size of the internal memory is an extremely important criterion when evaluating equipment, and with such a high level of smartphone manufacturing, the results are approximately equal. With more storage, the phone we tested would probably score slightly higher than the recently tested iPhone 7 (128GB).

Dual camera for better results?

Apple installs its new dual camera exclusively on the iPhone 7 Plus. In this case, one lens serves as a wide-angle lens (28 mm), the other acts as a telephoto lens (57 mm). As a result, subjects can be brought closer, as if using an optical zoom. The transition between "lenses" is very convenient in the application with just one swipe of your finger.

In addition, there is also a digital zoom, with which the image can be smoothly scaled up to 10x. Note, however, that only the frame size is increased.

In general, in practice, the iPhone 7 Plus takes noticeably more detailed photos than regular smartphones. Both lenses are equipped with optical image stabilization. The main camera has a resolution of 12 megapixels; first of all, those pictures taken in daylight look clear. In general, photos from the wide-angle camera resemble those from the iPhone 6S Plus, and the telephoto lens produces images of the same quality - but the frame is narrower.

Rare Apple

While the iPhone 7 Plus is now officially available, finding a new Apple device on the market isn't easy. First of all, due to problems with delivery at the start of sales, products are not present everywhere. For the 32GB version, Apple requires 68,000 rubles, for the version with 128GB of storage you will have to pay 77,000 rubles, and the version with 256GB will cost 86,000 rubles. All three versions can be selected in the following colors: black, gold, silver and rose gold. Also available in black onyx, but only for models with 128 or 256 GB of memory.

Alternatives

Apple iPhone 6S Plus (128GB)

If you already own it, you don't have to upgrade to an iPhone 7 Plus. Although the new product is even slightly faster and smoother, the hardware of the 6S Plus is still too early to write off. Currently, the previous model is available for 57,000 rubles (32 GB) or 66,000 rubles (128 GB).

Although with its 4.7-inch screen it is slightly smaller than its older XXL sibling, its standard version is cheaper. While the iPhone 7 Plus with 32GB will cost you 68,000 rubles, the 128GB version of the iPhone 7 will cost you just 66,000 rubles.

Perhaps the world of cosmetics is the last place where you can expect testing of a new model. iPhone Apple... But since for me personally in any gadget, almost the most important thing is the camera, I took the novelty to the annual TFWA exhibition in Cannes, where cosmetic brands represent the main launches for the next year. In fact, it's like fashion week for fashion editors, but it's all about jars. Every autumn for seven days life is in full swing inside and outside the famous Cannes Palais des Festivals: meetings, negotiations, presentations, watching videos, perfume blotters ... I honestly tried to photograph the most interesting things. Moreover, thanks to quick access to the camera, which turns on even on the locked screen, I was able to discreetly shoot even what was prohibited. However, let spy games remain games. I will not post "classified materials" that brands want to keep secret for the time being; but I can say that in the next "perfumery and cosmetic" year, a lot of interesting things await everyone. In the meantime, my report on new products that have been given the green light.

Fragrances

I started my work as a photojournalist - rightly - with a selfie. I had to "shoot", frankly, the selfie is not my strong point: either the arms are too short, or the spatial orientation is violated. As a rule, instead of a face in the picture, you get a phone case and the back of your hand. Desperate, I stopped such experiments and began to involve gape bystanders and lost vigilance colleagues in the filming. But here everything worked out the first time (okay, the second time). Not that I have added dexterity, but since for the first time there is a special mechanism inside the camera that "compensates" for hand shake during photo and video shooting, the frame turned out to be quite clear and realistic.

Bvlgari perfumery had an incredibly beautiful stand this year. This "jewelry" brand knows everything about stones! And this knowledge formed the basis of the luxurious (as from the fairy tales of “A Thousand and One Nights”) LE GEMME collection. Impeccably balanced perfume compositions, enclosed in multi-colored amphorae with the finest gold trim, enchanted literally everyone. One example is Irina, Le Gemme Imperiali: a composition of magnolia, jasmine and musk. It is impossible to break away. Naturally, I took dozens of pictures of this magnificence and everything turned out as a selection. The brightness and color fidelity required no filters at all, although the new version of Instagram has nice additions that are even better thanks to the wider color gamut and Retina HD display. So why didn't you need filters? The fact is that a larger aperture allows more light to hit the sensors and transmit the slightest color nuances.

Besides, two wonderful brands of niche perfumery - L'Artisan Parfumeur and Penhaligon's - are returning to Russia. I would especially like to say about the latter. Penhaligon's is a true British olfactive saga, where each chapter (perfume) is a story about members of a large respected family. There is style, breed, plot, quality and ... mesmerizing visuals. In a word - a series, no worse than "Downton Abbey". I myself really like how the photo of the pavilion turned out. So many details! And they are all visible in the smallest detail.

Care

Among the novelties of the American market, GlamGlow masks were pleasantly pleased. I always liked them, but now in the line created by the exemplary married couple Delimore, who got hooked on GlamGlow a good half of Hollywood, there are also lipotin products (that is, we are guaranteed volume), as well as nightly transforming care. During the presentation, I had fun as I could and took not only photos, but also small videos (somehow I will make a separate material). By the way, in the iPhone 7, images that come to life in Live Photo format can be edited. This is what I actually did while everyone was drinking coffee.

Many new products for not only face care but also body care were traditionally presented at the Clarins stand. The brand's reputation as one of the main experts in body modeling, stretch marks control, weight loss ... is impeccable and has long been known all over the world. I strongly advise you to pay attention to the Body Fit anti-cellulite product with quince extract. It affects all types of adipocytes and significantly improves the situation. In addition, very soon there will be a moisturizing range for the face with echinacea extract, an eye cream with a tone against dark circles and a tissue mask that will "capture" the neck area, which is very, very important.

Atmosphere

And of course, the Cannes exhibition is not only a job. This embankment Croisette, and a sandy beach, and snow-white yachts, and oysters ... Since all this usually "happens" almost at night, when the hectic day of work ends, it can be difficult to beautifully shoot and convey in the frame all the charm of a warm October evening. Fortunately, this time I had no problem with it. Tons of atmospheric photos that annoyed friends freezing in Moscow are comfortably located in the bowels of my phone's memory (which is now somehow absolutely incredible - up to 256 GB). They are quietly waiting in the wings to pull me out of the depths of the autumn-winter depression from time to time.

Another illustrative example on this topic. Traditionally, the most luxurious gala dinner during TFWA is hosted by Shiseido Corporation. It takes place in a wonderful place - in the SPA-hotel Les Mas Candille, a small, but so beloved by artists, town of Mougins. Every year, my colleagues and I not only admire the stunning views of Grasse from the elegant terraces of the hotel, but we also try to take pictures there. Always unsuccessful, because "it's dark and you can't see anything." This time everything turned out like in the photo below. The secret to success is a powerful 4-LED flash that shines up to 50% brighter. And the miracles don't end there. This flash adjusts to the color temperature of the environment, resulting in crisp, well-lit shots. Not that I understood this myself with my humanitarian mind, just before testing new iphone, I diligently studied the "materiel".
