Probably, we are all used to the quick launch bar using operating system Windows XP. And how we miss her in new system Windows 7. It turns out to be easy to do here too.

Remembering how we used to work with the taskbar. We had it rigidly fixed so that we would not accidentally change it. In order, for example, to change its size, it was necessary to uncheck the “ ". We do the same in Windows 7. Right-click on the taskbar, and make sure that we don't have it. Or take it off.

Now we add our quick launch bar. To do this, we must create it. Right-click on the taskbar, go to Panels, and select " ».

A window will open in which we must enter the line written below. You must enter without quotes and in one line!

"C: \ Users \% UserName% \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Internet Explorer \ Quick Launch"

On the right, next to the tray, we have an inscription “ Quick launch»

We click on the inscriptions with the right mouse button, and remove the checkboxes we do not need- " Show signatures"And" Show title»

That's it. Our Quick Launch Bar in Windows 7 has been created. It remains to move it closer to the round button, and put back a tick “ »

And although the developers of Windows 7 did not turn on this feature by default (by the way, it is not clear why), we were able to return it to our usual place.

Quite often there is a need to quickly launch the most used programs. Searching in the Start menu or on the Desktop is rather long and ineffective. For this purpose, the program quick launch panel was specially created. In Windows 7, it looks like this:

And in Windows XP, the program's quick launch bar looks like this:

To call the desired program just click on the program shortcut. Now let's see how we add your shortcut to the quick launch bar for the program we need.

First you need to "unpin" the taskbar. To do this, right-click on any free space on the taskbar. From the menu that appears, you must select the item "Fix the taskbar" and click to uncheck it (in the figure it has not been cleared yet):

Now the taskbar is "unfastened" and we can change the dimensions of the quick launch panel at our discretion (we need to grab the frames that appear made of dots, the mouse will take the form of a double-headed arrow, press the left mouse button and drag, expanding the frames of the quick launch panel):

Windows XP

You can drag program shortcuts from the Desktop to the free space:

Everything is ready, the shortcut is on the quick launch bar:

It remains to bring the taskbar to its normal form. To do this, we will remove the empty space by squeezing the quick launch bar:

Let us now fix the taskbar back. To do this, right-click on an empty space on the taskbar and check the box next to "Dock taskbar":

Done! The program has been added to the quick launch bar and is ready to run!

By the way, do you know that you can minimize all windows at the same time in order to instantly get to the desktop? Just press Win + D. Pressing Win + D again restores all windows to the Desktop. In fact, it is really very convenient if during work you need to get to the Desktop in order to start something.

The Quick Launch Bar in Windows 7, as before, is a tool for instantly calling up frequently used programs (which is easy to guess from the name). Now it has completely merged with the taskbar and is just a dimensionless area to the right of the Start button, which by default is limited only by the width of the screen. Some users were satisfied with such transformations, while others consider it inconvenient: they say, earlier, in Windows XP, it was better. However, Windows 7 allows you to place various additional toolbars in this area, including custom ones. That is, if you want, you can create your own quick launch bar.

Let's try to figure out in more detail what changes have affected the aforementioned panel in Windows 7, as well as what options are now available to customize it to your liking.

Docking and unpinning apps on the Quick Launch

To pin an application, simply drag its shortcut to the taskbar from any open folder or from the desktop. When you hover over the icon of a running program, you can see thumbnails of all of its open documents or directories, as in our example.

To unpin an application, right-click on its icon and click “Remove program from taskbar”. The applications themselves are not removed from this - only the shortcut is removed. Simple and convenient.

How to resize system tray icons

You can choose from two options for icons - regular, as in the screenshot above, or small.

  • To make the icons small, right click on free space on the taskbar and open its properties.
  • On the "Taskbar" tab (the "Panel design" section of the window), check the "Use small icons" checkbox.
  • If you remove this mark, the icons will again become normal - large.

Create your own Quick Launch bar in Windows 7

  • Right-click on an empty space on the taskbar. Select "Panels" and "Create Toolbar".
  • Select an existing (empty) or create a new folder. Give it a meaningful name, such as “Quick Launch”. After that press “Select folder”.
  • To be able to move the Quick Launch bar to the desired location (closer to Start or closer to the tray), expand the context menu of the taskbar again: if there is a label “Dock the taskbar” there, uncheck it. After that, vertical dividers will appear on it in the form of triple lines of dots, which can be moved. Double-clicking on the divider moves the custom panels to the maximum right or left.
  • As you can see, the Quick Launch folder we created appears on the taskbar. Now you can drag programs from the desktop onto it, but in this form it doesn't look very good: the folder name and the application name next to the icon take up too much space. It turned out that because of the long signatures, the second icon did not even fit.
  • To fix this, right-click on the separator line. In the context menu, the options “Show title” and “Show signatures” are active by default. Remove these marks.
  • Now the Quick Launch bar looks as it should: apart from the icons, there is nothing superfluous on it. And there is enough space for a dozen programs. To remove the spoiling dividers, just dock the taskbar again.

The entire operation to create the Quick Launch “like in Windows XP” takes about 5 minutes. Thus, if you do not like the modified design of the taskbar in Windows 7 - make it the way you want.

To remove the “Quick Launch” from the taskbar, open the “Toolbars” tab in its properties and uncheck this item. Click OK.
