Samsung's S Pen stylus is one of the most recognizable smartphone accessories in the world. Have you ever wondered what he is capable of? Before you the most complete guide from which you will learn what the S-Pen is capable of.

Smartphones series Galaxy Note from Samsung are among the most popular and productive Android devices... IN this moment Eight generations of the smartphone have already been released, the latest model of which is Note 9. Samsung missed the Galaxy Note 6 and immediately switched from Note 5 to Note 7. Each phone came with a proprietary S-Pen stylus, and the smartphone itself was supported by software.

This is an unusual stylus. Each new generation has been replenished with functionality. Thus, we focused primarily on the S-Pen of the Galaxy Note 9. Most of this material will also be relevant for the previous Note series devices. Well, let's start.

Clicking on the stylus not only helps to remove it from the smartphone.

Let's take a quick look at the basic S-Pen features of the Galaxy Note 9. Some of these features are carried over from previous generations, and some are completely new. Of course, we expect the Galaxy Note 10 stylus to be updated with enhancements as well.

The new S-Pen connects to the phone using Bluetooth, a feature introduced in 2018. The stylus is still inside the case, unlike most of the competition.

It is powered by a supercapacitor instead of the classic solutions with lithium-ion batteries like Microsoft Surface Pen or Apple Pencil. Samsung claims a full charge takes only 40 seconds.

A full charge allows you to use the stylus for up to 30 minutes or 200 button presses. Users are notified when the stylus battery is at the 20 percent mark.

The S Pen uses a wireless charging method while in the device. This method is different from the wireless charging method of the Note 9. Therefore, you cannot wirelessly charge the S Pen. charger smartphone.

By Samsung data, the stylus requires 0.5mAh of current to fully charge. In other words, the S Pen shouldn't affect battery life, even if supercapacitors slowly lose power over time. For reference, 0.5mAh is just 1 / 8000th of the 4000mAh battery found in the Note 9.

The S-pen will still work without charging, it just cannot be used as a remote control until the next charge.

The stylus tip is 0.7 mm thick. It records up to 4096 pressure levels. This is equivalent to the Microsoft Surface Pen 2 and most Wacom stylus pens.

The 2018 S Pen is available in several colors - yellow, ocean blue, lavender, black, and brown. These links can be used to check their availability on Amazon. They range in price, from $ 40 to $ 50. They are also responsible for your main letter color, but we'll talk about that later.

The range of the stylus when using Bluetooth is approximately 9 meters.

A little known feature of the S Pen is its many nibs. Each of the recent Galaxy Note devices comes with a small tool that you can use to pry out the stylus tip. The stylus has a soft rubber tip by default, but you can replace it with a hard plastic tip. The puller should be in the box of your Galaxy Note smartphone.

Main functions

Air View function allows you to remotely control Google browser Chrome.

An example of direct S-Pen input. Direct Writing is a direct input function that fully justifies its name.

Notes on the off tap can later be saved to regular notes or left for later use.

The S-Pen comes with a variety of features. They are enabled by default and you can manage them in the settings menu.

Air View- Air View allows you to collect quick information by pointing the stylus at various elements. The feature works best in Calendar and Gallery. We do not know how the stylus will work with third party applications such as Google Calendar or Google Drive.

Direct Writing Input- Direct input, which allows you to fill in text fields, virtually by hand. Just hover over an empty text box, click on it and you can start handwriting.

Screen Off Memo- classic note function. You can take notes on your device without unlocking the screen. Just remove the S Pen when the screen is off and follow the onscreen instructions. You can save these notes in the app Samsung Note, make multiple entries, erase, and even change the thickness of digital ink.

PENUP- it's kind of social network for Samsung owners Note. You can create drawings, color in existing art, and share your work with other community members. The application is installed by default, and you can uninstall it if you don't need it. PENUP is also available in the store Google play.

Change S Pen ink color- you can, in fact, change the color of the digital ink of the stylus. Unfortunately, there are only two options - the actual, physical color and the white color of the pen itself. If necessary, you can buy additional styluses in different colors. The applications themselves do not allow changing colors, for example, the Screen-off memo function does not have such an option. You can change colors in Samsung Notes like most other stylus-enabled apps. This is a minus, but not so noticeable.

Visible Pointer- the pointer displayed when the S Pen is close enough to the screen. This is an old feature and is enabled by default.

Features of Air Command

Press this button in the Air Command menu for quick access to S Pen settings.

Air Command is the main interface for most of the S Pen's functions.

Screen Write takes a screenshot and then lets you take notes on it.

S-Pen Translate makes translation using Google translate and it is very convenient.

Air command Is an interface for using all the different functions of the stylus. It is displayed by default when you take out the S Pen from the device. A circle appears on which you can see all the available options. You can turn it off in the settings, you don't need it. The interface does not interfere and is not displayed anywhere else.

Notes- Of course, you can take notes in the Galaxy Note. There are two functions from Air Command for taking notes. The first creates new note and the second one opens Samsung app Notes to view previous entries. Notes are synced across devices via account Samsung, this is helpful if you decide to upgrade to a new Note device in the future.

Smart Select Is our favorite way to take a screenshot. You can use the S Pen to mark an area anywhere on the screen and your smartphone will take a screenshot of that area. It's much better than taking huge screenshots and then cropping them when you just need to save certain information. There is also the option of capturing animation in a specific area. Smart Select can do GIFs. A very handy feature.

Translator Is a useful but unremarkable feature. You point the S-Pen at a word in a foreign language and millet will show its translation. The option uses Google Translate and we appreciate Samsung using the tried and tested options. You can also listen to the translation.

The magnification function is very useful for visually impaired people.

Live Message creates GIFs. Not entirely productive, but we like it.

Bixby Vision when using the S Pen.

Magnifier- this is another useful, but again completely unremarkable feature. Hover the pointer over something and get a magnification that makes it easy to read or see small things. It is very convenient. You can enlarge items by 150%, 200%, 250% and 300%. There is also a switch that changes the magnification type, however we didn't see much of a difference.

Glance Is a great multitasking tool to enable picture-in-picture mode for applications. Open the app, turn on Glance, and it will collapse into a small window. Hover over it to open the app in full screen again. Just move the S Pen area to return the app to Glance mode.

Bixby Vision- a slightly controversial function that can identify various elements on the device screen and show information about them. It can be seen that the option was made somehow and, frankly, it does not work well. It is best used to extract text from an image using OCR technology or to scan a QR code. The rest of the features are just not polished enough yet.

Adding Applications- Air Command lets you add your own apps to the interface. We recommend adding apps that you use frequently with the stylus. For testing purposes, we even added the Draw Something game, as we often use the stylus with it.

Accessing S Pen Settings- after opening the Air Command interface, you can click on the wheel in the upper left corner to access all different settings S-Pen. This is the fastest way.

Hardware Features

The S Pen menu is the best place to check the battery level of your stylus.

If the S Pen disconnects from the Note, get ready to see this screen.

Many apps have separate S Pen functions for remote control.

With the S Pen, you can open any application by holding down the remote control button.

There are also additional small hardware features. Usually, this section is pretty boring. However, the addition of battery, Bluetooth, and remote control capabilities has brought a lot more material into this category along with Samsung Galaxy Note 9.

Lost alarm Is a hardware feature that comes from older versions of the S Pen. When the stylus is removed from the device and carried over a long distance, the Galaxy Note will constantly remind you that it is missing until you put it back. it good way do not lose it, everything is such an expensive accessory.

Power saving mode- enabled by default. The Galaxy Note will not try to detect the presence of an S Pen while it is in the phone. This saves valuable battery life. The option can be disabled.

Sound and vibration- you can set your Galaxy Note to beep and vibrate slightly when you remove the S Pen. Both of these options are enabled by default.

Unlock with S Pen- you can set up your device to unlock with S Pen instead of PIN, password, fingerprint scanner and so on. This is a fun way, but we don't recommend it. Keeping a key in a lock, shall we say, is not a good idea.

Alarm and power saving options for S Pen.

You can unlock your smartphone with the S Pen. However, we think keeping the key in the lock is a bad idea.

Remote control capabilities- Galaxy Note 9 with S-Pen introduced remote control capabilities. This can be used in two ways. The former allows the S Pen to perform tasks inside specific apps. It works with many applications like Microsoft Office, Google Chrome and many others. The available controls can be viewed in the Settings menu. They will automatically appear for any application that might be using them.

Changing Remote Control Settings- you can also customize any app that uses remote control... Each app can have up to two functions, single and double pressing the S Pen button. Popular examples include flipping slides. I have been using this feature with Google Chrome.

Remote opening of applications- you can also set the stylus to open the app when you long press the button. Unlike a real remote function, you can open any app you want, but only one at a time. The camera starts up by default.

Controls aren't limited to just one app- any program that can use the function works remote control... You can switch from the camera app to PowerPoint and then to Chrome. All S Pen compatible apps will work unless you turn off the option.

Remote control- the stylus can control the camera and music playback. The option should work in all applications with camera or music playback functionality. You can, for example, take snapshots on Snapchat.

Music remote control worked in all music and podcast apps I tried (Samsung Music, Pulsar, Google Play Music, YouTube and even Pocket Casts). It is possible to customize the function, but there are not many possibilities.

The S-Pen has always been relevant. The stylus is still adored by people. It can do a bunch of useful things, and we can't wait to see what Samsung has in store for the future.

If we missed any features, let us know in the comments!

The first years at school we learn to write, diligently fill in the copybooks, look at notebooks in calligraphy lessons, form handwriting. Volumes of scientific papers describe how complex this process is and how it is associated with the brain. Information written by hand is remembered better than any text that we type on the keyboard, the second one may not be remembered at all. Writing by hand is more difficult than typing, and this is a deliberate action, a person's choice. The advent of smartphones and their proliferation should have brought the manufacturers of pens and notebooks to their knees, but they feel great, since many people do not consider the smartphone a worthy replacement for the notebook. And this is easy to explain, because when we write, we do it for important things, information that we want to remember and / or think about.

Samsung's Galaxy Note line of smartphones is unparalleled, as it unites two worlds in a relaxed manner - digital and analog. For example, you can look at the Samsung Galaxy Note8 as a state-of-the-art smartphone that has everything you'd expect from a flagship - a huge screen, great dual cameras, water resistance, lots of memory, and a fast processor that makes it easy to use.

Or you can look at the Galaxy Note8 as a modern digital notebook, which is as close as possible to ordinary paper notebooks, but has all the advantages of digital devices. You can send your recordings, store them on your computer or in the cloud, plus transfer them from smartphone to smartphone from year to year. At the same time, the S Pen not only looks like a pen, it behaves exactly the same, has different degrees of pressure, and you can not only write, but also draw. For those who have tried the S Pen once and tried how convenient it is, other smartphones seem not too advanced and they all the time lack a stylus. And someone in absentia thinks that this is self-indulgence. Let's take a look at an example of real-world scenarios, how convenient the S Pen is, what it allows you to do, and why many people cannot refuse it.

In everyday life, from time to time there are situations when I need to write down someone's number or some information, for example, the doctor tells how many times a day to drip into the child's eyes and in what sequence. On the Galaxy Note8, I just need to press the stylus to start writing even on the locked screen, and I can have a hundred such screens, if I suddenly need a treatise. My experience says that treatises are not needed, but that you need to write down at most a couple of sentences, a phone number, and this is very convenient.

Information on the run, when it is not so convenient to type on the keyboard, but it is quite possible to write it down by hand. These are quick notes that you can put on the screen in standby mode, see such a reminder, like a leaf that you attached to the refrigerator. After the specified time, they will disappear and remain in the notebook among other entries.

The analogy with a notebook is complete, the Galaxy Note8 acts as a modern digital notebook, and you can store various notes in it. For example, when the screen is unlocked, you eject the S Pen and a context menu where you can select the actions you need now. Due to my work, I often need to take screenshots of pages, highlight information on them. With the S Pen it is much easier and faster, as well as cutting pictures as accurately as possible, since you do not need to do it with your finger, as on most other devices. But for the S Pen there is also a unique feature that is absent in other devices, this is text recognition in a photo or screenshot. You select part of the image, and the smartphone itself recognizes the text on it. Conveniently? Not that word. For example, I often need to use information about store promotions in my articles. Previously, you had to open a photo and scrupulously type text, with Galaxy Note it is enough to select the desired area, and text in any language is recognized, you can immediately copy it to the mail, text editor, yes, anywhere.

This is not just a time saver, but a convenient function that allows you to work with information in a completely different way. In notes, you can draw, write, do whatever. For creative people, the "notebook" from Samsung has no alternatives, only on the Galaxy Note you can draw so comfortably, mix colors, and draw individual parts of the picture. And immediately share your creativity with tens of thousands of people around the world who can appreciate your artistic talents. When you look at drawings made on the Galaxy Note, there is no feeling that they were not drawn on paper and then transferred to an electronic file. Moreover, people are surprised that such things can be done on a smartphone.

I have always kindly envied people who can draw, since this wisdom was not given to me. Not so long ago, the world was captured by a new fashion for coloring for adults, when you buy a book with templates and slowly paint them in whatever colors you choose. Exactly the same coloring pages are in Galaxy Note, and you can also share your results with other people. This is a good activity to calm your nerves, and you are drawn into it instantly and never let go of your smartphone.

To those who are not strong in foreign languages. The S Pen lets you highlight a word or part of text to get a translation right away. Many Android smartphones can do this, the difference is that with the S Pen you select text faster and easier, and the translation appears instantly. Conveniently? Certainly.

For those looking to go a little further, there is the option to replace the standard keyboard with handwriting and write the old-fashioned way anywhere, in any application on the phone. This may seem a little old-fashioned to most, but the nice thing is that your text is immediately recognized and the smartphone does it well.

And for fans of animated messages there are “live messages”, they allow you to decorate what you write and send to another person on any phone as an animation. It is possible that a heart that glows and appears after the stylus will melt someone's heart.

These are just some of the possibilities the S Pen offers, and no one is forcing you to use the stylus. This is an additional tool in the Galaxy Note8, which comes to the court due to the fact that the device was made as similar as possible to ordinary notepads, and writing with such a "pen" is a pleasure, to feel every press, to be able to draw like simple schemes and complex watercolors. There is not a single device on the market that would allow you to expand the traditional capabilities of a smartphone so, in this aspect the Galaxy Note8 is unique, and the second question is how ready you are to use the S Pen. To understand this, you need to try, and for this you should go to a Samsung store and twirl the device in your hands. It is advisable to do this thoughtfully and not on the run, imagine how you can use the S Pen in your life. And finally, I suggest watching a video, which tells in detail about all the functions that you just read about.

Yesterday Apple introduced its first tablet with a stylus, before that Microsoft did the same, and even earlier, Samsung began to produce devices with stylus. Let's see how some styluses differ from others.

Galaxy Note

S-Pen styluses for Samsung smartphones and tablets are manufactured by Wacom. They have a rather complex electronic filling, but, despite this, they are passive, that is, they do not require power from electricity. How is this possible?

In the design of the S-Pen stylus, you can find an inductor and an oscillating circuit with a variable resonant frequency. A receiver is built into the screen of Galaxy Note tablets and smartphones, which reacts to changes in the inductance in the stylus coil, depending on the force of pressing the tip to the surface.

The "fourth generation" S-Pen stylus used in the Galaxy Note 5 is the most advanced. It can emulate gestures, and you can draw with it even when the screen is off, and when you push the stylus back into the smartphone, the note is saved automatically. The stylus from the original Galaxy Note perceived pressing with 256 gradations of force, in the Galaxy Note 2 and 3 the number of gradations was increased to 1024, and in the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note 5 it doubled - to 2048.

Samsung does not sell styluses separately, they are included as standard on Galaxy Note devices.

Surface Pro

The Surface Pro stylus is active - powered by an AAAA battery and communicates with the tablet via Bluetooth.

Designed specifically for Surface Pro tablets, this stylus has three additional buttons - to erase what you've written or drawn, to simulate a right-click, and to launch OneNote or save a screenshot. The sensitivity of the stylus is adjusted through a special application.

The stylus for Surface Pro is manufactured by N-trig, which was acquired by Microsoft last winter. The pen stylus for the first two generations of Surface tablets supported 1,024 gradations, but the Surface Pro 3 uses a 256-step pen. Even that is more than enough for professional artists and designers, according to Microsoft.

The stylus is included as standard on Surface Pro tablets, but it's also sold separately on Microsoft's site for $ 50.

iPad Pro

Apple Pencil stylus for iPad tablet The Pro is powered by a battery and charges via the Lightning port. One charge is enough for 12 hours of use.

Apple does not disclose either the manufacturer of this stylus, or its technical parameters (such as the number of pressure gradations), apparently believing that ordinary consumers do not need to go into such subtleties. It is enough to watch the video, which shows what masterpieces can be created with this stylus, and look at its tip in section.

It looks really nice, much better than any capacitors, coils and AAAA batteries. Something like an expensive fountain pen.

The Apple Pencil is not included with the iPad Pro and is offered as a separate purchase for $ 99.

As you can see, companies have a completely different approach. Samsung pens are provided free of charge to Galaxy Note users and are compatible with all devices that work with Wacom products. Microsoft has created a proprietary stylus and is giving it to customers of its tablets, and Apple is back in its repertoire - its stylus must be purchased separately and is not compatible with anything other than the iPad Pro.

A characteristic feature of the Note series smartphones is the multifunctional S Pen, which expands the capabilities of flagship phones. With each generation, this tool becomes more convenient and functional, offering new opportunities for communication, work, play and other everyday tasks.

The redesigned S pen once again raises the bar on functionality with a host of add-ons, including bluetooth technology Low-Energy (BLE), compatibility with Samsung DeX solutions and integration with some of the favorite features of Note smartphones. Taken together, the new pen capabilities allow you to interact with your smartphone even more productively, making you more efficient in many everyday tasks.

Connection by Bluetooth Low-Energy(BLE)

In every generation smartphones Note The S Pen combines the most innovative technologies expanding opportunities mobile devices... With the addition of Bluetooth Low-Energy (BLE), the functionality of the electronic pen is taken to a new level, allowing you to remotely control various functions of your smartphone.

The S Pen can be used as a remote control for Samsung smartphone Galaxy Note9, allowing you to easily control key functions such as your camera from up to 10 meters away. Now you don't have to reach for a button or rush to take your place in the frame before the shutter is released to take a selfie or take a funny shot with friends - just press the button on the S Pen. Double click to switch shooting from the front to the main camera and vice versa.

Other applications that support stylus-based remote control include Gallery, various presentation applications, and a media player1. With a single or double click on the pen button, you can start and pause music tracks, go to the next song or video, flip through pictures in the album. In addition, the S Pen is also used as a clicker during presentations with using Samsung Galaxy Note9 and Samsung DeX docks. With an open developer toolkit (SDK), app creators can integrate the intuitive capabilities of the S Pen into their apps by embedding additional features management.

Other features of the S Pen include long pressing of a button to launch your favorite apps and functions. It works no matter what applications are open at the moment. In the pen settings menu, you can change the reaction to different kinds button presses 2.

BLE technology ensures that the pen is always ready for use. The device is activated and automatically connects to the smartphone as soon as the user takes it out of the connector and maintains a stable connection even when Bluetooth on the smartphone is turned off. The S Pen fully charges in just 40 seconds and supports up to 30 minutes or up to 200 clicks offline.

Multitasking work

Note series smartphone users prefer to work with multiple applications at the same time and need a device that can effectively multitask. This is why Samsung has made the Samsung Galaxy Note9 stylus compatible with the Samsung DeX Docking Station, which greatly expands the capabilities of mobile devices, increasing productivity in a wide variety of work tasks.

To enhance the convenience of external monitors, Samsung offers a portable HDMI adapter that allows you to connect directly to your Samsung Galaxy Note9 without the need for a separate device. In addition, support for two displays is available in the new flagship, allowing you to work simultaneously on an external monitor and a smartphone display.

Connecting smartphones to a monitor will also allow you to use the device as a touch keyboard or panel for writing and drawing with the S Pen. The pressure-sensitive pen provides comfortable and realistic handwriting, and when working with the Samsung DeX solution, you can, for example, take notes on interesting videos that are displayed on an external monitor, or edit images with Adobe software.

New ways of taking notes

Model of the past of the year Samsung For the first time, the Galaxy Note8 brings users an entertaining Live Notes feature that lets you convey emotions in messages by drawing your own emoji, creating animated GIFs, and decorating photos with handwritten signatures and hand-drawn special effects.

The new Galaxy Note9 expands the capabilities of Live Notes by offering users a personalized sticker creation tool based on augmented reality (AR) technology. The S Pen makes instant messaging even more fun by adding AR emoji stickers to messages and adding any text, handwriting, and other effects to your messages.

Even more fun is guaranteed by the Photo Drawing and Live Drawing functions based on the PENUP service. Photo Drawing is a flexible, creative photo editing tool in Gallery that lets you draw on photos to create fun and expressive cards. The Live Drawing feature offers instructional videos to help users improve their artistic skills.

Screen Off Notes is also more dynamic. The pen markings now match the body color of the S Pen itself - yellow (for Samsung Galaxy Note9 indigo), light gray (for black), and copper.

Updated design

The redesigned S Pen on the Galaxy Note9 is now even more comfortable to hold. With a length of 106 millimeters and a weight of 3.1 grams, it has a nib just 0.7 millimeters thick and recognizes 4,096 degrees of pressure, ensuring the highest precision, comfort and fluidity when drawing and writing by hand.

As well as Galaxy smartphone Note9, the S Pen is IP683 dust and water resistant and ready to serve its wearer in almost any environment.

1 The list of compatible apps includes Camera, Gallery, Voice Recorder, Samsung Music, Samsung Video, PowerPoint, Hancom SHOW, B162, Snow, YouTube, Snapchat and almost all music apps. After the launch of sales, the list of compatible applications will expand.

2 App availability may vary by region.

3 The degree of protection against moisture is based on testing, which consisted of immersion for 30 minutes in clean water to a depth of 1.5 meters

The smart phablet Galaxy Note 4 with the S Pen was able to bypass the popularity of its “brothers” from the Note line. Frankly, this device has exactly the functionality that we expected from the Note series devices, plus a few new features. The settings and tips below will help you get the most out of the S Pen on your Galaxy Note 4.

Basically, the S Pen can do everything that your finger can do when navigating the display of this phablet, including working with applications and composing messages and emails... However, the stylus is not limited to the shortcomings of our frail human bodies. When you pull it out of its slot, you may notice not only its sensitive rubber tip, but also its clickable button. We certainly don't see such things on our fingers.

The functional stylus tip and button are central to the highly advanced features of this device, but let's not forget about induction technology. The weak magnetic field emitted by the Note 4 fuels the S Pen with power, and this field makes this stylus more precise and more sophisticated than a conventional passive capacitive stylus.

S Pen settings

The first step to getting the most out of your stylus is to use it. correct settings... Finding them is easy enough: you just need to go to the Settings menu and find the S Pen subsection there. We'll discuss some of the basic settings later in this article, but for now, here's a short list of how certain options affect the use of your pen.

  • Pointer - serves to display or not display a visible pointer on the display when using the stylus;
  • Direct Pen Input - when enabled, allows the stylus to make handwriting input;
  • Disable stylus detection - to disable stylus detection during storage and removal to conserve battery power;
  • S Pen sounds — enable or disable beeps when you insert or remove the stylus from the slot.
  • S Pen Vibration Response - enable / disable the haptic (vibration) response when using the stylus;
  • Split Options - choose whether to launch the Action Memo, Air Command (or none of them) when removing the pen from the nest;
  • Add / remove sound - select a sound signal when inserting / removing the S Pen (the "S Pen Sounds" option must be enabled);
  • Add / remove vibration - toggle the tactile response when removing or replacing the stylus in the phablet socket;

Again, the above settings do not cover all of the S Pen settings submenu options. So it's time to talk about a few key functions electronic pen.

Never lose your stylus

The S Pen can be conveniently stored right in the Galaxy Note 4's body, but the stylus itself is quite compact and easy to lose. To avoid such a situation, you need to check the "S Pen Alert" item in the stylus settings.

When you turn on the alert, your phablet will notify you in case you left the stylus somewhere and began to leave without it. In our opinion, this function must be enabled - it will save you headaches if you have to look for a replacement for a stylus you lost somewhere on the road.

Air View

Air View can be called the main function of the S Pen. If Air View isn't available, you won't be able to take advantage of what makes the Note 4 and its electronic pen virtually unique. You can enable this feature in the S Pen settings.

Air View takes advantage of magnetic induction technology, which acts as a battery for the stylus and allows the phablet to track the cursor and stylus actions without touching the display. If you have Air View and S Pen enabled, you can quickly demonstrate these capabilities by holding the pen a few millimeters above the display and making a circular motion. The pointer on the screen will follow the tip of the stylus even if it is not touching the screen.

One of the applications of the Air View function is the category of SMS messages: if you hover the tip of the stylus over an open message, you can see its full text. Other features will be discussed later in our article.

Air command

Air Command provides quick access to common functions that are available with the stylus. You can also enable Air Command through the S Pen settings. This option can be accessed from any window by bringing the stylus to the display and pressing the button on its body.

4 options included with Air Command:

Action Memo

This option allows you to open a Memo Pad for small notes and information such as phone numbers, email addresses, and web addresses. Pressing the active button (dotted circle with an arrow) allows the written text to activate certain actions, for example, a phone call or a transition to a website. You can also easily pin this memo pad to your home screen by clicking on the corresponding icon.

Smart Select

This option allows you to quickly select any fragment of the screen and save it as a picture in the clipboard for sharing or saving to a digital photo album. To do this, circle the desired area of the screen with a stylus in the form of a square. You can collect multiple images by clicking the Collect button and using Smart Select again to select and capture another image.

Image Clip

Image Clip is somewhat similar to the previous option. With it, you can select a more detailed area of the screen using the S Pen. You can also choose a specific shape to outline the area, for example, a circle or a square. The cut images can be stored in your digital photo album, where relevant information can be added to them.

Screen Write

This option allows you to take a screenshot of the entire screen and immediately add the appropriate annotations. You have several options for changing the style and color of the stylus input, which gives you the ability to write various labels on images copied from the Internet, as well as perform other actions.

Using the S Pen to surf the web

The stylus in question works quite functionally with many applications from Samsung, for example, with a browser. Using the pen to surf the web makes it easy to scroll through web pages or copy and paste text for sharing.

Scrolling website pages

To scroll a web page with the stylus, bring it up to the screen and move it to the top or bottom edge to scroll the page up or down, respectively. A small directional arrow will appear showing the direction of scrolling. You will probably need to hold the tip of the stylus at the edge of the screen for a second or two for the device to accept the scroll request.

Selecting text on a web page

Managing saved photos

The S Pen also has some features to easily manage your Note 4's image gallery. With these, you can preview, select, and share photos.

Aiming the stylus at shortcuts

You can quickly preview images in your gallery by hovering over them with your stylus. When the preview appears, you have access to quick shortcuts for sharing and editing. You can even call the Screen Writer function to open an image and quickly write on it.

Multi-selection in the "Gallery" section

To select multiple images in the gallery at the same time, press and hold the button on the stylus and move the tip of the stylus across the screen to draw a rectangle around the selected images. You can also add more images by repeating the above steps. You will be able to quickly share selected images, delete them, or apply other functions to them.

S Note

The S Pen stylus can show its professionalism in all its glory in an application like the S Note. This app includes many options regarding customization appearance pen input, and takes full advantage of the sensitive pressure of the stylus to give your scribbles beautiful curls. If you make your own stylus settings, you can keep them preset for quick recall.

Editing text from a photo

Using the S Note application, you can take a photo of a page with text, and then use the stylus to convert such a photo into an editable one. Note that the pen is good at recognizing texts, but if you need to edit several of these photos, it will not be an easy job. It may be more useful to use the S Pen settings, such as a highlighter for selection. important information and writing notes.

Handwritten keyboard

In many text fields throughout the Note 4's interface, users can use the stylus to enter handwritten characters. When you turn on the Direct Input option in the menu settings, when you hover the stylus over the text field, look for the 'T' icon with a pen.
